Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012

Well... Pretty sure the Orioles are going to suck again.

The Nats though, I keep having high hopes for. I hope they don't let me down.

Yeah, I just keep saying I hope the Nationals are in the playoff conversation in mid-September. I want to see steady improvement over last season. Should be fun to watch!

I'll third that. I'm looking forward to watching this season, I've been waiting for the day when the Nats are a legit team since they moved back to DC.

Is Harper going to get MLB playtime this year? I keep forgetting about him because he's not part of the MLBPA so he's not included on The Show: 12.

Yeah, he's not going to be on the opening day roster for multiple reasons but I do expect him to get called up sometime this season. I'm throwing a random guess around there but I think it'll be mid-to-late season, although if the Nats are in the playoff hunt I'm not sure how they'd proceed then.

Well the Nats eeked out an opening day win today. Lannan is requesting to be traded because they sent him down to the minors.

Lets see how the O's do tomorrow.

I plan on seeing one of the games Strasburg pitches down here with a couple of friends. We did it last year and had a blast, them slightly more then me since the Braves won.

I got a very blurry picture of me with Dexter Manley at the Nat's opener today, plus they got the win. Good day.

Excellent!

Gio was phenomenal today. Just wish he could have gotten a W for his efforts

@AMD: Nice!

Yeah, I wish Lidge hadn't blown the save, but we got the win regardless, and Gio got his first base hit today (go see the DCSportsBog for excellent coverage on that lol) which was great. It's nice to win the home opener, and I really hope this good feeling about the Nats isn't short lived, because I'd love to see them keep building on this 5-2 record.
Great day!

I also went to the O's game on Wednesday night (two baseball games in two days is WAY too expensive) and I think it finally confirmed that I really just don't care that much about the Orioles anymore. I mean I want them to win but they just continue to stink and I already spend too much of my time rooting for bad teams to bother with them.
Plus, and I know this is blasphemous for any Marylander, I think I actually like Nat's Park a little more, with the exception of getting there.

I have really bad luck asking strangers to take a multi-person picture with the camera on my Iphone. Last time it happened I was at the Caps-Pens game with my friend and I asked a middle aged guy to get a picture of me and my friend and he did, and I didn't bother checking it and when we were on the Metro I started looking through the pics and I discovered the one he took was a blurry pic of the ground. Really disappointing, especially considering our seats were at center ice about 7 rows up.

I'd never hand my camera or a phone to a stranger, especially in the DC/Baltimore area.

It all depends on the person. Would I ask a young, fit teenager who's sloppy drunk to get a picture with my phone? No. I wouldn't hand my phone to a person I don't trust. Most of the time when I do it I ask an elderly person to do it, but the problem with that is they have no idea to work a camera phone.

im a Philly fan, and if you're counting on Lidge to be your closer, and Strasburg to be your ace, you're screwed. Lidge simply doesn't have it any more. and Strasburg, IMO, cant last a full season( health wise) last night is a preview of what you get with Lidge. blown save, after blown save

Im thinking 85 for the Nats, thats if all major players stay healthy (Gio, Stras, Zim)
Big win tonight. Team ERA is like 1.95
Hell yes, this team has FIGHT! I think it was the WP Sports Bog that referred to the pitching staff as K Street - I approve.

Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012

How about Jayson Werth getting the game winning RBI? That's a nice little slice of redemption pie for him. This is the first year in a while where I have complete confidence in our pitching staff. Lidge/Rodriguez as closers scare me a little, with Lidge's history of blown saves and Henry's inexperience, but otherwise I think we are good. And our lineup should get a boost once Harper gets called up and Morse gets back. If we can keep winning without those two in the lineup it will really help when they get back.

The starting rotation has been borderline elite, and I heard on the radio the other day that they're all under team control for like the next 4-7 years. That's pretty awesome.

I find myself cheering harder these days for the Nats than my first baseball love, the Orioles. My allegiance is shifting from my childhood team to my hometown town.

Re: Official Orioles and Nationals Thread 2012

The biggest concern for me is how well we'll continue hitting with Morse out of the lineup and Harper in the minors, but my secondary concern is Storen and his recovery. Once we get completely healthy thought I think this team has a good chance to look even better than they do right now.

I know its early, but I have to brag for one second because this may not happen again this season.

The Orioles and the Nats are on top of their respective divisions.

It feels so good to rep the DMV right now.

As a Nats fan under 40, I'm curious to know why. I've been following the Nats since they moved back to DC. I followed the Orioles prior to that, but never got into them too much since they are Baltimore's team.

No they weren't? They're Baltimore's home team, I can claim that they were the team I followed most closely due to geographical location but that never means I claimed them as my team.
