Holy sh*t!!!

Sean Payton suspended one year. Mickey Loomis 8 game and $500,000 fine. Saints fined $500,000 and a second round pick in 2012 and 2013.

Does he mean a second round pick in 2012 and 2013 or two second round picks in 2012? Either way, man, this is tough for the Saints.

Talk about the hammer. That's a bit harsh. Ouch.

So Steve Spagnuolo the interim coach then?

And what about Gregg Williams? Nothing?

Yeah 2012 and 2013.

So is Gregg Williams banned for life? Also, I think Darth Hoody should've been suspended for a year.

GW suspended "indefinitely"

I would find it hard to believe that Gregg Williams escapes judgement, jury, and execution.

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints

If Peyton gets one year, Williams has got to be looking at life. At best, he'll get an "indefinite" suspension; where there's the possibility he could apply for reinstatement in a few years.

What's important to note though is that Payton isn't suspended for a season. It's for a year, effective April 1. So he won't be there to even help out with much of next off-season's planning

Wow, is there any Redskins in the 20 some odd players that could be suspended? Or are they only looking at Saints players?

Damn! The Rog laid the hammer down, he's definitely using the Saints as an example to the rest of the league to discontinue this.

What about Loomis? How does an 8 game suspension work for a GM? Is he not allowed in the building until Week 8 is over?

My gut reaction:

"GOD-DAYUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Especially looking at Payton's and Williams' punishments.

I'm curious, is Sean Peyton considered Loomis' boss or is it the other way around?

Another asst. coach got banned too. Also they say that player punishments are under review by the NFLPA. We may see NFL executions.

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints

Killer.

I really think this is way too harsh since a lot of teams probably do this and hide it better.

Goodell really likes to make these "I am the king" statements every chance he gets.

Maybe this is to take attention away from the salary cap debacle that will end up being a black eye for the Commish.

I can't believe Sean Peyton is gone...this alone will hurt the team dramatically and could finally send Brees out of town. He still has not signed his franchise tag, right?

don't be so quick to think we dodged a bullet. Goodell said that when he considers Williams' eventual request for reinstatement, he'll consider how cooperative Williams is in future investigations. This can only mean the league is going to look into bounty systems at Williams' former teams. obviously, Shanahan and Allen cant be suspended as they weren't here, but draft pick penalties could be coming our way.

Perhaps well agree to allow the NFL to screw us over with the cap if they promise not to screw us over with bountygate.

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints

Roger Goodell is definitely going to go down as one of the harshest Commissioners in NFL history. The era in which the players become robots, and the game becomes flag football.

SmootSmack 03-21-2012 01:22 PM

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints

“We are all accountable and responsible for player health and safety and the integrity of the game,” Commissioner Goodell said. “We will not tolerate conduct or a culture that undermines those priorities. No one is above the game or the rules that govern it. Respect for the game and the people who participate in it will not be compromised.”

“A combination of elements made this matter particularly unusual and egregious,” Commissioner Goodell continued. “When there is targeting of players for injury and cash rewards over a three-year period, the involvement of the coaching staff, and three years of denials and willful disrespect of the rules, a strong and lasting message must be sent that such conduct is totally unacceptable and has no place in the game.”

The really key element as we talked about before (and what separates this in a big way from SpyGate) is that the Saints denied this for 3 years. Confronted, denied. Confronted again, admitted said they would do something about it...did nothing. Saints could have avoided harsher punishment had they admitted right away

This is some harsh punishment. GW's indefinite suspension? Does he make it back in the league?

Skins won't get punished. Two very different situations. Our GM didn't know about it at the time, Gibbs didn't know about it, Snyder didn't know about, and the league didn't find out about it and tell us to stop, only to have us subsequently lie to the league about putting an end to it. All of those things are true with the Saints.
