Offence or Defence

So what should it be this year offence or defence this year that we need to work on. Since our D was #3 I think that we need to work on offence. How bout it?

CRT3 01-26-2005 07:18 PM

Defense

Add a DE and a another solid corner. We want to be #1

wolfeskins 01-26-2005 07:53 PM

the o needs the most "work" , the d just needs to add a few players ( de & cb if smoot leaves )

TheMalcolmConnection 01-26-2005 08:35 PM

I think both. The defense has improvement to make, because the fans AND the team aren't going to be satisfied until they are #1. I think the offense shares the same mentality. If we got anything, we got team spirit, yeah boy.

Just a couple pickups here and there and we'll be doing fine on both sides of the ball.

Offensive improvement is clearly the bigger need. But I don't think that necessarily means that we need to go out and break the bank in typical Snyder-fashion to get some offensive playmakers. I truly believe that the biggest problem with the offense this year (aside form Brunell) was the playcalling. I think that at the beginning of the year, Gibbs was looking to replicate the success he had in the past running the football, and he was hesitant to back off of that stance when things weren't working. I think he was working hard to validate the trade and subsequent blockbuster extension given to Portis, and he also wanted to prove that bringing in Brunell was the right move. Now that we are past that phase, I think Gibbs and Breaux will be more open to taking shots downfield and fixing the offensive problems that we experienced this past year.

Offensive line [center] and a big fast reciever, this will keep our defense off the field and fresh and propel them into the #1 D in the league.

Now this I believe. Cause Gibbs will learn from his mistake, and change them. But As for the D I think that they did great all year long.

But the O line needs much improvement and I think that will be the case when the draft comes around. When it does I think that we will get a good O lineman. If we don't then I will be the first to say I was wrong.

A better O will lead to a better D. Keep them off the field!

Go for O! Center, Blocking TE, WR. Other than that. Leave it alone. Add a DE on defense, besides that, just replace anything we lose!

rdsknfn2003 01-27-2005 11:11 AM

Ok then if we lose Smoot who will take his place? That is as good or better then him.

MTK 01-27-2005 11:22 AM

The offense clearly needs more attention this offseason.

rdsknfn2003 01-27-2005 11:27 AM

Well Matty thats what I hope for. We need a good work over. Or is it that the offence is just scared of getting another coach. Shoot just to change the scheem again?

MTK 01-27-2005 11:43 AM

I think the offense will be much improved next year.

Ramsey will be much more comfortable, the offensive line should be improved, everyone will have a year in the system under their belts, the play calling will likely be more aggressive, etc.

I'd be shocked if we don't see the offense drastically improved in '05.

rdsknfn2003 01-27-2005 11:45 AM

Is that with new players on the line?

Daseal 01-27-2005 11:54 AM

Matty, I'll be shocked if we get past the 15th ranked O in the nfl. If we can get at least in the teens, we'll be playoff bound as long as our defense gives a similar performance than they did this year!

rdsknfn2003 01-27-2005 12:01 PM

Daseal,
I think the defence will do better next year. They might be #1 if the offence is better and keep the defence off the field for a little bit. But the D was in good shape.

MTK 01-27-2005 12:02 PM

Well, if before the '04 season someone told us the Skins would have the #3 D in the league this year considering how poorly they played last year, how shocked would we have been? I don't think any of us thought they would have had a top 3 D.

rdsknfn2003 01-27-2005 12:04 PM

Well if we look at it in a positive way we can get better. Specially when we get LaVar back. and maybe that non playin bonehead Barrow

Daseal 01-27-2005 12:38 PM

I thought our D would be better than our O. Also, how many people here thought top 10? I did, simply because it was Williams' MO. He always has a top 10 defense. I didn't expect them to be near as exciting/good, I was pleasently suprised. The problem is, our offense needs a big overhaul to be successfull. I hope you're right, Matty.

TheMalcolmConnection 01-27-2005 12:46 PM

The thing that I loved the most about the D was how they would swarm tackle and not stop til the whistle blew.

rdsknfn2003 01-27-2005 12:49 PM

Isn't that how the D used to be when Gibbs was in his first term?

offiss 01-27-2005 07:09 PM

I saw Cerratto on the NFL network last night, he was in Alabama scouting the player's, and he said the Skin's are looking at the O-line [center inparticular] and reciever position's, then depth on defense.
