Get More Canes!!
Its that time of the year again folks, time for me to start convincing everyone how we need to draft a Cane in this years draft. My pick this year is Antrel Rolle. Hes Samari Rolles younger brother, and would have been a first round pick last year if he had entered the draft.
If we dont sign smoot, then I say we should definitly draft him (ifs hes still there at 9). We need a receiver to but this guy is already at the pro level and can step in and be a starter. |
I feel ya on that one skinsncanes. Antrel is definetly going to be big time in the pros. Either we get him or the cowboys will take him since they have a very week secondary. But Only thing this year bout the canes is that he is really the only big name, I think.

id rather trade down and get pollack

Me too. Thats not a knock against Rolle, cause the guy is a player, but I think we need a DE more than a CB, even if Smoot leaves. |
Now we are talkin bout Pollack. I'm a huge UGA Bulldawgs fan. I have already told my friends that my authentic jersey is already on pre-order. i definetly think we should go WR, or D-line.
|
I was thinking the same thing about Antrel if Fred leaves but I am still making my case for Erasmus James. He played for Wisconsin but he is FROM Miami so he counts. I was a Taylor supporter to the fullest last year and this year is James. I have seen him dominate too many big time lineman in the Big Ten. Also being a PSU fan, I watched him take out Mike Robinson, a 240 lb QB, which I never thought would happen. I think he could be the pass rusher we need to complete the D. If we were to go after a CB I think Rodgers from Auburn might be a better choice. He has great size and speed and had a stellar year in a tough passing conference like the SEC.

Two names being thrown around among Warpathers are Mike Williams and Antrel Rolle. I fear that both of them will be gone by the time we pick.
Don't rule out the possibility of selecting the highest rated left tackle if Chris Samuels fails to renegotiate. |
If Williams and Rolle are gone, Edwards and Rogers may still be available... and like PSU said, he ain't a bad alternative... we'd certainly have a nasty secondary with Taylor and Rogers laying people out.
|
Man I'd love to get a quality WR but I don't think we'll find a guy who can step right in make a difference next year. WR take a couple years generally to be impact guys. A DE however would really help our defense keep near the top of the laegue. So I'd vote DE. If there isn't a sure fire pash rusher available at 9 I say trade down and get a lower tier DE and another pick.

Antrel Rolle is an absolute BEAST. He is Sean Taylor as a cornerback. I'd almost say let Fred go if top 10 CB is not good enough for him (like we have offered). Drafting a rookie there instead of signing Smoot would help our cap... and Rolle is NOT a step down from Smoot.
I love Fred Smoot to death, but he has been talking to Chump Bailey all season supposedly, getting pointers on how to be a Free-Agent. If that's the route he wants to go... let him, and grab Rolle. He'd be good for more big hits, more sacks, and less money (for the first 3 years at least... lol) If he's gone at 9 (which I think he will be) my pick is either Erasmus James (another BEAST) or David Pollack (Patrick Kerney part II) |

I also think we should focus on linemen in this draft regardless if Smoot sign's or not, I think we have the player's to replace him if that happen's. |
Rolle is a beast, but he is no relation to Samari Rolle..
|
the announcers at the miami/florida game said that antrel said that he was going to be back for his senior year to try and win a national championship next year
|
Speaking of DEs what about Dan Cody on USC?

they are brothers |

that was last year, he was a senior this year |

He makes plays all over the field though. Like Springs did for us this year, he was used to blitz a lot and pick up some sacks. He shut down all the top receivers he played, including larry fitzgerald last year. I understand we do need an end, but I have to make my push for a Cane. Hopefully we can get someone like john abraham to step in and be a pass rusher. And perhaps Plaxico to play receiver, resign smoot, then draft rolle to play opposite sean taylor, lol, that would be freaking awesome. |
I want to say that Pollack is a better player than James for a couple of reasons. In the Outback bowl they faced each other James had only two tackles and was one-on-one the whole game. Pollack had 3 sacks and a forced fumble. While fighting threw constant double teams. The mans engine is always at full throttle. I say that alll this talk about James comes from one game and that is the Wisconsin-Penn State game. You look throughout the year much less career of each and Pollack has played better all-around*E. james did have a terrible hip injury that almost ended his football career* so the numbers are slighted. Pollack has started every game in his career and earned millions while James lost them. The only way I will swing my vote is if James puts up some outstanding numbers at the combine.

I noticed that too. James didn't do anything to impress me, but on the other hand Pollack was a monster. He goes full speed every down. |
On this site they have us taking Mathias Kiwinaka (sp?) a DE from BC. Dude is big 6'7 261.

We have got to come away with a DE with one of these top ten picks. They just aren't around very often.
|
The D finished 3rd overall, it's the offense that needs fixing.
Williams got Taylor with the first rounder last year, this year it's Gibbs turn to get a new first round toy. |
