I knew it...the way those two have been stealing glances at each other, you knew that something was up between them. I'm glad that they've finally eloped.

Well I'm starting to not blame the owners for not wanting to open the books. NBA Owners opened their books to show a ridiculous 22 of 30 teams loosing money and all the NBA players can say is "they're lying."
Our belief is that a small number of teams are suffering, and their problems can be addressed through revenue sharing.
The damn books are right in front of you. The statements are verified by a third party.

Congrads owners. I now understand your position.

They can take all the time they need :D. A missed season guarantees another high draft pick for the Wizards. Not that they're exactly a threat to make the playoffs but they're certainly in line for a major improvement, but yeah another thread.

I don't really care what these two are doing. I don't care if they're having a homosexual relationship and keeping it behind closed doors. JUST GET A DEAL DONE!

I feel like we will have some kind of a serious announcement after the July 4th weekend. At that point you are around 2 1/2 weeks away from training camps and there is still going to have to be some sort of Free Agent period before that. I bet they are pretty close on most things and they just need to work out some finer points. No one really knows because they can't talk about it, but seeing Goodell and Smith together tells me a plan is in place.

Can't lock in till there's no lockout.

Re: De Smith Asks Goodell To Run Away to Florida With Him

best reason to hope: De Smith didn't repeat his U of Md commencement speech while Goodell was sitting next to him.

on the other hand --

our rookie NT, who I guess is at the symposium said:

TruckNeild Chris Neild
..sounds like a temp job is possibly in my future :( #endthelockout
5 minutes ago

That doesn't make it sound like the overall tone was upbeat.

Solid advice from someone who has been there.

Sadly, there were probably a dozen attendees who were dozing off or were too busy texting their friends to get the message here. Oh well...

I became a huge fan of Herm when he was coaching for KC and they did Hard Knocks. Can't believe he's not in someone's organization.

Didnt want to start a new thread so im heaed up stream, just saw this and thought there was something wrong with it, who can find the discrepency???/

"If there were no such thing as playoffs or Super Bowls, then Marty Schottenheimer would be the greatest coach in the history of football, thanks to his amazing 200 career wins and just 126 loses and one tie.

However, once Schottenheimer's teams reached the post-season, they failed so miserable on such a regular basis. Schottenheimer's post-season record stands at an aboslute emabrassing 5-13.

Schottenheimer coached the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and the San Diego Chargers all to playoff apperances, but none of them were good enough to win a Super Bowl.

Marty Schottenheimer is the biggest choke artist in NFL history. "

I think there are few sources better than Jay Glazer, but I don't know how accurate this is. I think you're going to get a lot of we're close, we're not close over the next few days. There will be a lot of lying, for lack of a better term.

For what it's worth, Glazer does believe a deal will be done and no games missed. He's just reporting the latest he's heard.

I think it'd be ridiculous to make so much progress for nothing. Hopefully something will happen after the 4th of July.

Re: De Smith Asks Goodell To Run Away to Florida With Him

My guess is that there is significant progress toward a deal and that much of it has happened in the last week. Notice I said that was a GUESS; I do NOT have a wire into the negotiating room.

However, you should notice that when you hear from anyone on either side of the table these days, it is not a spokesperson. You are hearing ONLY from the principles and the people who "in the room". The PR guys on both sides have been muzzled; the loose-lipped "inside sources" have all gone silent - - probably because they have been told to shut-up or because they have been excluded from the sessions where the real work is getting done.

Here is my GUESS at a timeline:

12-15 July: There is a handshake agreement on the structure of the new CBA and part of that agreement is that the owners will lift the lockout and the players will withdraw their lawsuits.

48 hours after that handshake agreement, free agency will start.

Training camps will open between 22 and 24 July.

The season will start on time.

The lawyers will massage the outline agreement that both sides shook hands on and produce a final agreement that will be ratified by both sides sometime in Sept/Oct.
[BTW, if the lawyers for either side screw up the final text of the agreement with some kind of off-the-wall failure to dot the eyes and cross the tees, fans should declare open season on all of those lawyers and drive them out of the country to reside on Pitcairn Island.]
So I've got one report saying they're still talking, and another saying they're wrapping up for the night and will meet again tomorrow morning. Not sure which is correct

And in news that may only be interesting to me-while the NFL owners and players meet in Minnesota to end the lockout, the state of Minnesota itself can't come to an agreement and its government is about to shut down
