Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
About 30 players there right now, including Grossman and Beck.
Fletch once again running the workout. I think just about all the rookies are there |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
How cool would it be to wander out to some athletic field somewhere and realize that "those guys" over there are NFL pros running drills.
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
That would be pretty cool. Just wander around the high schools of Northern Virginia I guess. It's going to be 3 days of workouts
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Perhaps they can recruit Albert to demonstrate the......Shuttle Run?
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
About 42 players there apparently
In other news, the Giants have had two workouts and about 8 players showed up for each |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Carlos Rogers is not there, along with McNabb and Haynesworth.
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Seems like the Skins are terrible character guys. Only thing they care about is partying.
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Beck is killing it in practice today. I'm going to "beckpedal" from my previous comments and get on the "beckwagon" before it's too late
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Never mind, Beck just had a rough series. Rex has been solid. Imagine it's like an Osaka preseason game so the defenses are pretty bland
Getting my updates via text from colleagues on the scene by the way, so I'm not actually seeing anything |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Thanx SS, it may not be an OTA.....but it's something...sniff....sniff
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Looks like we're done for the day. Unless they're meeting again this afternoon
D Smith spoke with the players afterward Jarvis Jenkins among those not there today Me: So Beck looked pretty good today? Colleague at Practice: You know, honestly, he kind of reminds me of your guy Chase Daniel. He's smart, makes good decisions, and I trust him in the short to intermediate game. But I just don't know that his arm is strong enough to go deep or last in a game where he needs to throw 20+ passes. Me: There's only one Chase Daniel!...what about Rex Colleague: If you could trust him to handle himself under pressure, he'd be the best QB we've had here in the past decade Me: Seems like quite an ask Colleague: No doubt. But from a pure throwing perspective he's been awesome |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
So Beck looks good?
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Average
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Everyone should look fantastic in these type workouts. Good to see the comradery though, the essence of it all.
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Great info SS.
We better get used to Rex and Beck, they're our guys for the upcoming season. |
About 42 players there apparently
In other news, the Giants have had two workouts and about 8 players showed up for each
I always felt we had some great core guys during the Gibbs 2 era. That didn't translate to winning but I found it annoying when we got the "bad lockerroom rep." It was more than that. We still get that rap, b/c we're not winning I guess. I'm sure it's not as tight as a powerhouses like Pitts, NE, and Indi but that's b/c we're not winning and don't have the success and stability those clubs have. |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
According to Grant Paulsen, Fred Davis is down to 245 lbs.
Also, heard Rex was much more of a loner on the sidelines. Beck was the "leader" of the offense, offering up encouragement/words of advice to the rookies Everyone in attendance is getting a copy of the playbook, if they don't have it already |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
From Twitter:
"Redskins draft picks who attended: Kerrigan, Hankerson, Helu, Gomes, Paul, Royster, White, Thompson, Hurt, and Neild." |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
SS, so someone copied their 2010-11 playbook and is redistributing it?
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
I don't really know. Could be that someone like who was able to get a copy of the latest playbook, which may or may not be the 2010-2011 playbook, before the lockout is making copies. Or several players are. No idea. All I heard was everyone in attendance will leave with a copy of the playbook if they don't have it already
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Cool. So the coaches must know about these workouts well in advance. What do you think about the notion that coaches are actually working with some of the team leaders to help setup/organize what will occur during the workouts? Heard them talking about it on the radio a few days back
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
I hadn't heard that. Direct contact is not allowed of course, but I have to believe they are communicating somehow
|

I think Schefter said that when the lockout was temporarily lifted some teams contacted their players. I think the 49ers gave Alex Smith a playbook. |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
According to CSN Washington, Orakpo and Landry were not there either
So Rogers, McNabb, Haynesworth, Doughty, Orakpo, Landry, Jenkins not there (among others) |

Oh yeah sure, during the brief lift. Absolutely. Maybe I misunderstood Hooskins' question |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
SS, you understood it correctly. Thanks.

re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Hooskins: i remember seeing this a couple weeks ago, maybe you saw it too?
Report: Assistant coaches, players in regular contact during lockout | ProFootballTalk I also think that players and coaches are in contact on a regular basis. Im sure theres a few tempory gmail accounts and pre paids out there. |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
I wonder if some of the UDFA's are flying around to some of these camps in an attempt to possibly get a player to vouch for them after the lockout is lifted.
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
mlmpert, that's exactly what I was referring to. Now I recall it. The Sports Junkies had PFT's Mike Florio on and he was talking about that. You can take his reporting with a grain of salt, of course, but I thought it was interesting. Florio also mentioned agents are talking with teams too. He felt the NFL knows it, but doesn't want to punish anyone if they are doing it behind closed doors.
Wondering if this workout was organized with a bit of "help". |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
It is great to hear Beck is taking the Bull by the Horns. I hope he can back it up with great play.

Players around the league aren't disclosing locations for obvious reasons. I know a lot of the footage has see police escorts around the fields. Down here in Atlanta I was curious to see if the Falcons were practicing at one of our nearby high schools as my area has the nicest fields in the state, plus I'm not to far from Flowery Branch which is basically Ashburn for the Falcons However I was unable to find any reference online to the actual high school the Falcons were practicing at. Pretty sure if I asked around someone would have recognized the location, but my interest only went so far as to find the name of the school. Anyway, I doubt the Skins did anything different. |

Kind of elaborates on some stuff I had mentioned earlier about Beck being more of a leader and Rex more of a loner off the field of play

That's what you want from your QB. |

Agree on Beck, Matty. That's smart what he's doing |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Of course he needs to be able to play well too, but he seems to have the leadership angle down. That's a good thing.
|
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
Nice to read that we have more players showing up for these workouts then other teams. God knows we need the work.
Carlos Rogers is not there, along with McNabb and Haynesworth.
I'd be shocked if they were there. I expect all these guys not to be there. Hell, Los stayed of actual games b/c he was scared of damaging his value, no way he's going to come to a workout not mandatory...lol I'm glad many of the guys are getting reps in. Kudos! |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
According to Rich Campbell, Aldrick Robinson's flight was cancelled due to bad weather
Atogwe also not there-so Doughty, Landry, and Atogwe all not there. Reed and OJ have legit excuses. Not sure what Landry's is. And Malcolm Kelly not here either. Not really sure why not. But I can't entirely blame him considering his injury history |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
I think it's great that players are getting together on their own, but I don't fault anyone for not attending. One major injury and suddenly everyone will have a different opinion on these workouts. These guys aren't getting paid and aren't covered medically by the league. Some guys are taking on a big risk by going out there. Even if they have their own coverage a major injury could be quite costly on many levels.
