Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Hmm, think Donovan or Albert would look good in tiger stripes?
Carson Palmer wants Cincinnati Bengals to trade him or he may retire, sources say - ESPN |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Yeah, I've written this elsewhere, but I would definitely go after Carson Palmer, when Palmer comes available. There's a point at which the price may go too high, but I doubt there will be a better player on the market in the next two years at the QB position. Andrew Luck excluded.

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Maybe it's part him, part the team, but he hasn't looked very good in a few years.. couldn't justify that anymore than the McNabb trade

Exactly!! If you have watched him close, his arm strength seems to have waekened badly |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
No way in hell would I want Palmer. Old and washed up

You can't compare the 2, Mcnabb is a border line HOF that been to multiple playoff games and to a SB. What's Palmer done? O yea nothing. And he's had plenty of talent around him |

What's Palmer done? O yea nothing. And he's had plenty of talent around him
There's no way McNabb's a borderline hall of famer, being that he's at the end of his career and doesn't qualify for the hall of fame by pretty much any criteria. Palmer is much closer to the middle of his career than McNabb is, and I think he's been better than McNabb going back to 2005. He certainly was this past season. I can't speak as to the declining arm strength/skill sets of one or the other, and wouldn't expect Palmer to have another run quite like 2005-2007 here, but I'd expect him to look better than 2009-10 anywhere once he escapes Cincinnati. He's was that offenses' best player this year. I think Chad's the one who is most obviously in decline. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Palmer in 2010:
3970 passing yards, 6.8 Y/A, 26 TDs, sacked just 4.2% of the time. The 20 INTs are one of the reasons the Bengals lost 12 games. But like I said, escaping Cincinnati will be good for him. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Of course he had 26 TDs their loaded at WR.. Mcnabb has never had that kind of WR cast and he's always played pretty darn good. Change may help him but it probably won't. In all honesty he's basically been just slightly better than JC.. No thanks

Maybe we need to explain how a team can pick up a player who no one else wants, add him to a declining cast, and suddenly be loaded at a position that they were weak at the prior season, then have his best two passing days when both big name receivers are inactive. You may have answers that I do not.
He didn't look old or washed up when the old, washed up receivers were hurt. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I'd like to see if Palmer gets the same hate Ocho got three years ago

Thanks to his injury in the playoffs some odd years ago it's now practically illegal to touch the QB. Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
So Gtripp are you saying Palmer is better than mcnabb in their respective careers? No way IMO..
SS I think Cincy was waiting for this to happen I mean Palmer has done a solid job but the guy has never really won anything.. Of course no one really has with the bengals but was Palmer worth the Number 1 pick? |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
He needs a change of scenery.

Palmer's peak was higher, but unless Palmer remains productive through roughly 2014, McNabb has the better career. Yes, Palmer has been worth the number one pick. If Cinci thinks he's not worth the contract, they can release him now, but I don't think they're all that close to winning with or without Palmer. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I would love to have palmer but not at the price of high draft picks and I doubt cinci will want anything other then draft picks if they traded him.
I would love to have palmer but not at the price of high draft picks and I doubt cinci will want anything other then draft picks if they traded him.
Well, Cincinnati was the team that didn't want to trade Chad for a first and third round offer from us.
If they want a high price for Palmer, that's their prerogative. He's theirs through 2013. I don't think the Bengals have very much around him. But perhaps they can hold out for a team willing to trade a lot for him to make a SB run. |

I don't want to give up the draft picks it will take to bring in Palmer, but he's far from old and washed up. He just turned 31 less than a month ago. |

He's done dude heck he's already talking retirement. They won't take anything less than a 3rd for him and that's too high |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I dont like the angle of "threatin retirement", think that is kinda weak and I question his love of the game. I heard he wanted to play on the west coast which is not good for us, but I would still make a pitch for this guy as long as it doenst involve a 1 or 2nd. Haynesworth might be an option to go.
I was all for bringin in McNabb and would be for Carson...I think both are pretty equal in ability, with McNabb it wasnt a system fit, if Shanny thinks its a better fit with Carson, pull the trigger. I think its better than over paying and taking any of those garbage projects at 10 in the draft or seeing Grossman fail next year. |

Those arguments don't work in your favor. Plenty of people have won Heismans and national championships in college football and haven't amounted to ish in the NFL. |

heisman means zero.....he a decent prospect but a project. This is the 10th pick...not late first round. I expect to get a player who is ready to start and contribute. Cam needs to sit the bench at least a year maybe more and seriously study and learn to read coverages. In the NFL dont go under center before the snap and then look to the side line for the coachs to change the play because you cant read coverages. Cam is like Tebow, half his game in college was running the ball, take that away what do you have? I just dont like him at 10 |

Well his body of work in college this year has been impressive, but he has one year of college football experience and while he has been impressive throwing and running, he needs a lot more work before he's ready to be a quarterback at the NFL level. He could easily be a bust if he just comes in and assumes his natural talent will let him succeed at the NFL level. |

I agree with you on this but can't say he's garbage that's all I was saying.. Plus if we are bringing in a QB as a rookie he'd probably sit anyway.. Why give up picks for Palmer when Rex is already here ? |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I think it's time to finally let go of the love affair that redskins and fans have for other teams' players. Let's stop this and concentrate on primarily building through the draft and picking up undervalued and underrated free agents. It's time to start building the team the right way with relying on talent evaluators and the coaches to develop the players' skills once they get on the team.

Haha ok u should just stop now GT.. You know just as well as I do that Tom Brady is one of the best ever, Palmer is a bum compared to Brady. |

Denying this, I don't believe is a matter of opinion, I think it's just dishonest. Which is why your explanation for not needing Palmer because of Grossman was inane.
We need our high draft picks a lot more than we need Carson Palmer, but he's the best quarterback available. |

I would offer late round draft choices as well as player compensation. I would not part with the second rounder, though we may not have a choice in 2011. It may have to be player compensation. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Palmer may be the best QB in the FA market. That being said, keep our draft picks. Take Von Miller, a center, and Dalton/Ponder in the 3rd/4th. Build through the draft. We should have learned from Cerrato and moved on to do things the right way from now on.

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
what happened to this guy? i thought he was well on his way to a hall of fame type career. he got hurt and he's never been the same. his accuracy is off, he throws too many picks...maybe he just needs out of cinn. i think he can still play but he's shown that he's not good enough to carry a team. not sure about his contract status but the price will be too high and i doubt cinn is going to trade him. but it seems the losing has really gotten to him.

so what. how dows that translate to the pro game? newton has alex smith and vince young written all over him. can you name one spread QB that has made it in the NFL? i can't. |
