NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
So Coughlin is coming back
Frazier will stay with the Vikings Garrett in Dallas Jeff Fisher could be out in TN Broncos (and Elway) reportedly interested in Fassel Niners reportedly prepared to offer Harbaugh up to $5 million a year Panthers reportedly interested in Rob Ryan Bengals likely to replace Lewis with Mike Zimmer Raiders could move Cable out and name Hue Jackson head coach John Fox possible option in Cleveland And Perry Fewell and Brian Schottenheimer still near the top of many lists |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
You forgot one. John Elway flying to Florida to talk to Harbaugh about coming to Denver, using his Stanford Alumni connection.
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
I also forgot Ron Rivera and the Panthers, and Childress to the Browns as OC
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
I also heard the 49ers would be interested in Billick if they don't land Harbaugh. Also interested in Josh McDaniels.

They risk losing Hue Jackson if they don't, they rather lose Cable and promote Jackson to HC. |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
What's Holmgren's interest in Fox all about? Were his CAR failures more of a FO issue?
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
I don't understand why the Raiders want to get rid of the one coach who has actually returned them to respectability. I mean seriously, you had like 6 or 7 straight seasons of horrible ineptitude and he brought you up from the dregs of the league to go 6-0 in the division this year and you want to get rid of him? I think it'd be a dumb move by the Raiders, what has Hue Jackson ever done to prove his worth as a head coach in this league?
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
What HC gigs are Zorn up for?
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
Not happy about the Coughlin thing myself....I understand it but I don't like it.Also the Giants are willing to make Perry Fewell the highest paid DC in league to stay, if not they might bring Fox back.

They share an agent. Morninwheg is another option there, or Holmgren himself. Some believe he'll put himself in there as a one year stop gap before Gruden arrives in 2012. I've heard if the deals are equal or even just close, Harbaugh is taking the Michigan job, possibly leaving the Niners with Mike Mularkey or Brian Schottenheimer. I totally forgot about Grimm and the Panthers. Will be interesting to see if Rick Smith or Brian Xanders are let go and joins tbd Redskins FO |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
Forgot about thx Dolphins too. Doubt Sparano stays. Ross wants to make a splashy hire

Can't believe that he still hasn't got another shot. Hope it works out for him there. I saw that Cable probably isn't coming back. Any reason why? They had a good year. Is it cause he likes Gradkowski and Davis prefers JC? Why would anyone take the Benglas job? |

Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
wow, i cant beleive all of cowhers alleged top choices are already filled and his name isnt rumored attached to any team. I wonder if anyone even WANTS cowher. At this point, he's been out of the biz for a while and no ones going to want to pay him 8-10MM per year with the labor situation up in the air.

Coughlin is one cranky ass dude. But did he really deserve to get fired after going 10-6 with a team that was crushed by injuries? |

Not to critize you but if there's one thing the NFL is good at it's giving second chances, either to coaches who sucked at being a head coach, or to players who f up. You could say the same thing for Zorn last year and right now he's working as the qb coach for Bmore. |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
I think the problem with Cable is there's a divide between him and Hue Jackson, at least those are the rumors. One of them has to go. It wouldn't be the Raiders without some good ol internal dysfunction.

Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
Speaking of coaching moves, does anyone think Shanny is inclined to replace Haslett?
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
Personally I think Haslett will be back. Gotta give him some players and a real chance to build the D.

I'm sure he can work as a OC or QB coach. But I doubt anyone is going hire him as a HC anytime soon. |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
So Mangini gets fired. I don't understand why Holmgrem didn't bring in his own guy last year.

If you had said that from the start I don't think I would've even bothered replying lol. I doubt there's anybody here who disagrees with you on that one. He'll get work as an offensive coordinator though imo. |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
SS, so have there been rumblings about changing our FO and/or personnel guys?

Latest buzz is he's coming back, especially if Zimmer stays in Concy |

Since last spring, remember they tried to add Doug Wiiliams. I dont know that they necessarily want to get rid of Campbell or Mo Brown though. |

If Marvin Lewis is done is Cincy, he would be a great DC. |

Yeah he already was our DC under Spurrier. |

I think he would be one of the top HC candidates. He did a solid job in Cincy with limited resources and support. |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
I'm not a haslett fan at all. Even when he had the personnel he wanted in previous gigs, his defenses were mediocre on average. I'd hire wade phillips in a heartbeat. He's a great DC and, given that he's been a complete joke as a head coach, i dont think anyones ever going to offer him a HC job again, so he could be a longterm dc for us.
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
Wade is probably headed to the Texans as their DC.
|
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
Defense Sucked but don't let Haslett go .. keep the coaches let them implement the system over a longer period than one season ...

Much tougher schedule. The fact that Zorn went 4-12 against the teams we faced in 09 was pathetic. |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
Did that 2 year Zorn experiment really happen or was I dreaming ?

Heard Holmgren said at the time he wasn't considering being a coach but I bet the itch comes back during the interview process. I forgot about the Grimm thing, read that. I'll have to look into the FO guys you mentioned. I guess the Goodman's aren't in the plans? |

Per his press conference he's keeping the staff intact, so unless anybody gets a job elsewhere they should all be back. We need a new TE coach due to the former guy taking the job at Colorado so there shouldn't be too many changes. |
Re: NFL Coaching Rumors and Moves
I think haslett has done a pretty damn good job considering all of the injuries and the haynesworth bull shit.. In fact look at the division defensive stats and we aren't that bad points wise
In fact we gave up 17 Points or less in 9 games this season. |

Our defense is hard to evaluate. On one hand they're last in the league in terms of yards and 20th in the stat that matters most (PPG). There was also the Philly debacle as well as the Houston comeback (which now doesn't look as bad after they almost did the same thing to Baltimore). The first Giants game wasn't pretty either as were contest against the Rams, Lions, and Colts. However there were also a lot of games were the defense did their part in holding opponents under 20 points in 9 games this year, including 5 of the last 6 games, with the exception being when they allowed 33 against Dallas. They're on the right track and compared to Dallas's 3-4 switch they actually didn't do bad at all. |
