Re: Hunter Axed
3 games left? Oh well see what this guy can do I guess
|
Re: Hunter Axed
WOW. Is he taking Sundberg with him?
|
Re: Hunter Axed
man, Hunter the punter is gone. :(
I wanted one more fake fg. I guess after last week no one would be surprised by it though! |

Re: Hunter Axed
C'mon guys, they just signed him so they could grill him about Wade Phillip's appetite and T.O's night life.
Oh, and to have a PHYSICAL punter. |
Re: Hunter Axed
For a second I thought the Skins were using Jack Del Rio's motivational techniques: Punter out this week, maybe season - NFL - ESPN

Re: Hunter Axed
So you canned the punter ...yet you keep the field goal kicker ?
|
Re: Hunter Axed
Hunter the Punter had a good first go round with us, but his second go round was not that successfull. Best of luck to him, and on with the next guy.

He hurt his ribs on the play, so he's probably out anyways. |
Re: Hunter Axed
Next year, Bidwell should be back from IR. He was very good when healthy.

Damn, I totally forgot about him |

Well if we're going to rebuild, then you hold on to the 23 year old who makes the mistake, not the 38 year old (or whatever their ages are) |

You call yourself a Moderator? :pffff: Seriously, Bidwell looked AMAZING in training camp. He kicks mile-high, perfect spirals. Didn't think a punt was supposed to spin like that. |
Re: Hunter Axed
Smith's punting wasn't anything special

Problem is that 23 yr old could F up a wet dream. He sucks. |

While Gano has stuggled as of late, I'd rather give him a chance to prosper as a Redskin than let him get away ala David Akers. He's still young and seeing how he bounces back over the next 3 games will go a long way in projecting his future. Mark Moseley, 1982 NFL MVP, is regarded as one of the best kickers in Redskins history. His career FG percentage? 65.6%. Chip Lohmiller, kicker during the back half of the Gibbs I era has a 71.8% career FG percentage. And while the kicking game has evolved over the last 30 years, the Redskins have gone through their fair share of mishaps and shoddy kickers (Ola Kimrin, Jose Cortez, James Tuthill). The Redskins kicker with the best career FG percentage? Shaun Suisham. All I'm saying is give the young kid a chance. Gano has a booming leg and will get better and tougher with experience. |
Re: Hunter Axed
Bring back the Red Snapper....I cant remember one bad snap by the guy...Sundberg has had at least a dozen...in one year....cut the right guy for heaven's sake.
I would have guessed the most likely to be cut this week would have been...in this order 1. Gano 2. Sundberg 3. (a far third) Hunter Smith c'mon....Gano missed 2 chip shots worth 6 points and the ability to continue the run game and a very likely win...Smith mishandles a hot wet snap from Sundberg...who continues to suck....ask yourself this question....have you ever even noticed the long snapper?....why is it that this guy gets so much publicity? cause he sucks! I didn't think hunter was great or anything....but he was mostly consistant. The reality is the Skins missed an opportunity to upgrade the kicking game in the offseason and they completely negelected it...including ditching the best long snapper the skins ever had....in favor of possibly the worst in recent memory. I actually think Rabach could do better and save a roster spot. |

I'd rather have a consistant inside the 40 kicker than a deep kicker that is irratic....of course, that depends on how much you trust your kickoff coverage unit. Some teams have a kickoff guy and a kicker...we just need another roster spot...axe sundberg and you solve that problem. I was envious of TB's kicker....no misses inside the 40 all year..unreal I didn't like Gano's performance this week...but due to the fact that we suck....let's let the guy finish out the year to see how he deals with slumps...perhaps, he comes back and suprises us....but changing the holder on him is just gunna mess him up...The FO knows that...they must....that is going to be a huge challange for Gano and Sundberg....we shall see. I really think the FO is setting up the kicking team to fail so they can clean house this offseason. |
Re: Hunter Axed
I think the Skins more than any other team has the worst luck of K/P in the past what?.,.. 7 years?
|
Re: Hunter Axed
best punter we have had in years.........dumb move!!!!!!
|
Re: Hunter Axed
Hunter the Punter
Shanahan released thy foot after your hands missed. the Hunter got axed though Sundberg, he still does snaps? Gano, go or stay? |
Re: Hunter Axed
WTF!!! Fire all three of those Turds!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Hunter Axed
i thought i was the only one that thought Smith sucked? see ya later

Re: Hunter Axed
Getting rid of Hunter is a complete fail, like cutting Sushiam last season. Solves Zero and sends a crappy message. Snaps have been an issue since preseason and Gano kicking field goals been an issue all year.

I gotta agree. This seems like a move for the sake of making a move. |

Its like a golfer firing his caddy because he keeps shanking his tee shot in the woods. |

So... I guess you were ok with cutting Suisham last year after all |

I gotta agree with this too. Not sure what the message here is... The Skins will not stand for mediocrity or mistakes?? lol... If you're gonna dump Hunter for a dropped (high) snap then I can give you reasons to dump every bum on this squad. I blame this whole fiasco on the Curse of the Red Snapper. |
Re: Hunter Axed
^Exactly. This is the only FO move i've had a problem with in this "new" era...seemed like a very Vinny/Danny typical knee-jerk reactionary move, just stinks of past...
|
Re: Hunter Axed
I love Hunter the Punter, but I've got no problem with cutting him. He wasn't having a good year and at almost 40 years old he probably won't get much better. Plus you already know what you have in him and it's not like there's high demand for him.
With the team out of playoff contention, why not bring in a young guy see if he can be a factor not only as a punter but also maybe as a holder, and whether the overall kicking unit can benefit. This is a no harm move |
Re: Hunter Axed
Making a roster change ought to do something significant to imrove the team - - unless you are making the change as a result of an injury to a starter or unless you are making the change as a knee-jerk reaction.
Is this supposed to put the Fear of God in the rest of the roster with regard to on-field accountability? Give me a break. If on-field accountability mattered, at least a third of this roster would be looking for work in a warehouse by now. The players do not fear The Wrath of the Shanny any more now than they did a week ago. Did the team get better? Maybe. But when you are expending effort tweaking the performance of your punter, normally the rest of the team is playing lights-out football. Here, we see yet one more PR move by the Skins. Special teams f*cked up a field goal so somebody has to be hung out to dry. The famous scribe Billy Shakespeare had the line that best describes this entire matter in MacBeth (Act V, Scene V I believe):
Tis a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury and signifying nothing...
|

At first i felt like it was a knee jerk reaction to our loss, but as of today i started thinking well at this point in the season its more about finding guys that can be good for us in the future. I wouldnt mind seeing Durant Brooks brought back, wasnt Denver the other team big on him back in Shanahan's last year there? |

Re: Hunter Axed
SC, it also may be warranted if you are out of contention (we are), the player cut is old/not going to be on the team next year(he is, and wasn't), and you want to explore other options(I guess they do).
I am sure I am just justifying, but in the end, this move wasn't a huge deal. Shame for HS though. |
