(Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!

I need to say something...

I keep hearing that "well,if the Redskins had any kind of Passing attack or WR's..they might win game" or phrases such as this really ticks me off.

I either think that some football fans are just stupid or being haters and here's why.

I wasn't looking at the addition of T.J. or someone else as finally being able to move the ball down the field situation,to me...it was making our Passing attack "deadly"!

1st,Santana Moss has not had a QB throw the ball down the field with regularity since he's been a Redskin. At least on Target...lol

2nd,We will finally see what Chris Cooley and Fred Davis can do,while on the field together at the same time. Unfortunately,we had a coach that was incapable of using both TE's at the same time. Sadly,we were able to find out how good Davis was with a Cooley injury.

3rd,This assumption that Joey Galloway is no good anymore is also stupid. This is a guy who has had afterburners his whole carer and has burned us on many occasions as well. Sure,I understand the guy is 38 years old and a 16 year vet,but I also know he's a former X4 time Pro Bowler with tons of experience and knowledge of the game. Did you not see the steps he had on that fade against Buffalo that Mcnabb missed too far out of bounds? Dude had like 3 or 4 steps on the "Young guys"..lol

4th,The hypocricy on Mcnabb from the Media and fans is truly overwhelming! He either is overrated or doesn't have receivers in Washington.
How many years were the eagles either favored to win the division or by default, expected to be in the playoff hunt just with having McNabb in Philly?
...And how many years did McNabb have players like James Thrash,Reggie Brown,Todd Pinkston and no name WR's make plays on the field during those Playoff runs.

The only wildcard in this whole debate is Brian Westbrook...OK..We have Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson instead. Nobody including myself have any idea how this will work out,but we do know one thing that's a fact. The Redskins have THE best Blocking RB in the NFL..there is no debate on that!

If a fan or a rival wants to make the case that we will not be good because of team continuity and them not playing togetehr for a long time and mcnabb getting used to the Play calling...then fine,I understand that!

If a fan or rival wants to make a case that our line is too weak to hold up for a season to protect Mcnabb...OK..I disagree, but at least that's decent argument that we will have to let play out! Although I think the additions of the 2 Bookend Tackles will be absolutely HUGE for Mcnabb and the team.

But to tell me, we will have to rely on our running game to be any good is absolutely ridiculous imo...

We have 2 former Pro Bowl WR's,who not only still have very good speed, but pretty darn good hands as well.

As a matter of fact,of the 5 WR's on the team, only 1 can't blow by someone in Roydell Williams. And he didn't look that slow on that nifty cut back after the catch in that 1st Bufflao game..remember?

By no means am I saying we are stacked or can start running the spread formation cause were deadly, but this notion that these 5 WR's can't catch the ball and move the chains is ridiculous imo...

Then there's Cooley...although a pro bowler,he just somehow gets forgotten when mentioning the Redskins Offense or passing game. He might just be the most underrated pro bowl TE in the NFL,if that can make any since..lol

He will easily be McNabbs best TE and target since being a QB for 11 years...
Not to mention Fred Davis who many believe is BETTER than Cooley...
2 stud TE's for McNabb....

Now I'm not saying we're going to blow up the NFL in an air attack like the Colts or Patriots or anything...

But I will say this....If Our O-line can give Mcnabb ANY time to get the ball to our "Sucky" wr's....lol...

The NFL is going to find out 2 things...

Either Mcnabb isn't as overrated as proclaimed? (And the Eagle are stupid)
Or the Redskins passing attack isn't as weak as proclaimed?

Hopefully,both will be true!
By the way...were dropping 40 on Dallas on Sunday night!
:food-smil

Thank you for listening to my rant, but this needed to be said. Even to my fellow Redskins fans unfortunately.

Taking the TEs out of the equation I don't see how anyone can argue we look weak on paper.

I'm hopeful that Moss will be rejuvenated with McNabb, Armstrong will be the real deal, and Thomas can take a big step forward.

But right now our WR group looks very iffy.

But Matt, that's the problem with all this speculation.

Everyone seems to take out the TE's on this debate, when it shouldn't be.

Unlless Shanahan is running a 4 or 5 Wide Spread offense in every base formation, than the world might be correct. We probably aren't going to scare anyone.

But how often will this happen?

That all changes as soon as you put the 2 TE formation on the field? (or even a package with Just cooley)
How many LB's can cover Cooley and Davis at the same time?
Cause they will force D-coord to use Safeties with their talent...
Which will leave Galloway Moss or even Armstrong in 1-on-1 coverage...

We might not have the Best receiving core in the world, but I bet anyone we can create more mismatches than many NFL teams buy having 2 GREAT TE's on the field at the same time...

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!

I don't think our WR are as bad as many in the media say they are (Mosely said yesterday the Redskins have the worst WR in the NFL) but also not as good as many of us think they can be. As a unit (TE not included) we are in the lower third of the WR corp in the league. If we include the TE, then it's middle of the pack.

As I posted in another thread, all but 2 playoff teams last year featured the TE as one of their top 3 options, 5 of them had the TE in the top 2. We don't need a fantasy team of WR to be effective and productive in the passing game.

The biggest difference maker in the passing game this year will be the running game. If we can run, McNabb will make teams pay with the pass.

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!

Our receivers are easily in the bottom quarter of the league and have been a constant weakness on this team over the last decade. We do have a top 5 TE duo in the league which really helps, but they are TE and not WR, so dont group them in when making your arguement.

Moss and Galloway are on the downside of their career. Williams has shown absolutely nothing in his career. Armstrong and Banks are both projects that hopefully will break out. Thomas is a bust at this point in his career and barely made the team even amoung this already poor group of recievers.

Moss is by far and away our most talented reciever and could be a good contributor (no 2 or slot reciever) on any other team. The rest of the group would be very iffy even to make the team.

Not being negative and want the guys to break out...but Im calling it like I see it at this point.

I think we have a group of Pass Catchers that we can get by with. Cooley is our 2 reciever , heck maybe our 1. So obviously someone needs to step up, maybe it's AA or DT. Who knows. We will find out soon

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!

The thread title is a little misleading.

If the claim is that we have "no receivers at all," that claim fails because of Cooley and Davis.

If the claim is that we have "no wide receivers," unfortunately there is some truth to that. Galloway has 20 catches over the last 2 years combined yet we are counting on him to contribute. That's pretty pathetic.

Like Matty said, let's hope that at some point the light comes on for Devin Thomas.

How the hell can you rank WR's who have had a piss poor QB's? Last time I checked it took both to have a passing attack,

All this changes if we get Vincent Jackson...

Which might be what's going on with this Hayesworth to Titans trade and the Chargers working with a Mystery team.

Jackson is a freak..

I think it's fair to evaluate the WRs and the TEs on their own. Yes when you add them together you get a much more formidable group, but the fact is our WRs do kinda stink, at least on paper right now.

If we can just hit some deep balls once or twice a game, of which McNabb is very good at and Moss is very good at, it should open up a lot for this team. Brunell was able to do that with Moss several times in 2005 and that took us to the playoffs. I don't think Moss has lost anything from that and Galloway can do that as well off playaction.

Last year Galloway had Tom Brady. And Welker was hurt. Still Galloway could not get on the field and produce. 'Nuff said.

Or maybe while he thinks we can get by with what we have at WR, V.Jax. represents a clear upgrade at the position that he wouldn't mind.

I don't necessarily agree with that but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. If we traded Haynesworth to the Titans, who traded some picks to San Diego, who traded V.Jax. to us, I would be very happy. Because you know if we get rid of Haynesworth on his own, we aren't going to get shit for him. Nobody trades good draft picks for malcontent players that think too highly of themselves.

It won't be long now before we begin to find out just what we're going to have at the w/r position. Various arguments have been made as to their abilities [or lack thereof] have fun with the knowledge that any concerns we have will answer themselves very shortly.

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!

Galloway has had 20 receptions for 200 yards and 0 tds in his last 2 seasons combined. And he is not exactly going to get better with age at 38. He is not someone we want on our team much less someone who is going to start.
Our TEs are good but (like Ive said before) two TEs cannot both shine in one offense. It has never been done before, so I do not see why it will happen now. Don't get me wrong, they both can be reasonably productive, but to expect them both to put up big numbers in the same game is a little far fetched.
Moss is OK, but not someone who demands a double team. He might get it, but he doesn't need it. He is not someone that can make up for the lack of talent of our other receivers. Also, for a small speedy guy like him, being 32 this year does not inspire confidence that he will be any better (especially now that he can't take steroids anymore...jk but not really).

On the Cowboys board I look at, there is a thread about ranking WR corps, oddly there is not one about ranking OL. I think it's clear that our WR's are not the tops, but I think they will make it through the season, if we are unable to bring someone in. But, lets not forget where our priority HAD to be this offseason. Everyone living knew we had to upgrade our OL, and we did, to the point where it is most likely a strength and one of the better ones in the division. Let's see if we can have that same EFFECTIVE focus over the next year on WR's.

Depth on the OL is still cause for concern in the event we suffer an injury or two. That's a problem many teams experience, mainly because of the scarcity of players deemed to be good depth players. If a player is good enought to step right in if an injury occurs and the line dosen't miss a beat in execution, then usually that kind of player generally feels he's good enough to start for some team in the league and will in most cases find a location where he can be a starter.

It can be argued that the WR's we have can be productive providing no one of them in particular be counted on to carry the maximum load. Couple the WR's with the TE's and spread the wealth equally among the lot, this could ultimately prove to be a formidable group. To expect any one of the group to catch 90-100 balls would be an unrealistic expectation.

Usually when someone takes the effort to make a thread about topic especially a thread that starts with VENT, they usually stick to their guns throughout the board.

You say no worries about the receiving corp here then go start another thread about trading AH for a WR.

Overall I am just saying put some more thought in before making another thread. No one likes to have a billion useless threads going on at once.

The "vent" thread was the fact that there is a theme that the redskins have no chance of having an affective passing attack and that we have no receivers what-so-ever? Would you say this is true on the overall speculation as a whole? I would considering it's thick in the Redskins land as well.

The "vent" thread was to show, that although we are not stacked at WR,that's it being portrayed worse, than it really is.

The fact that I would want to add a good WR to our WR core,is to upgrade and already what I think...."decent" wr core. Not great...but decent.

True...

I always believe you can be better at a certain position and add depth...

The fact that not only opposing fans and even Redskins fans assuming our WR core sucks without knowing for sure what will happen with a X6 pro bowl QB is all...Speculation.

I have believed and always believed and maintained to believe...that Jason Campbell, made the WR's look worse...than they really were.

I told many people.....over and over and over and over and over again....that if all the redskins did was change QB's or improve at th QB position...Our wr's would look much better.

Even with jim zorn (as bad as he was)...if we had done NOTHING else..on defense..on offense, coaching management or whatever...

If all we ever did thids offseason was go from campbell to mcnabb

This team could throw the ball.
Yes,I believe JC really sucks!
(which is why I laugh at the "raiders are going to be good" sentiments..lol)

And I have my evidence of my evaluation from this...

As soon as Collins comes in,during the 07 season when we were 5-7

we miraculously won 4 games in a row behind the great todd collins...and made the playoffs...

Is this proof collins was good? lol no way

It was proof to me that JC was absolutely...terrible

The fact that he never got any better, made being a Redskins fan hard for the next 2 seasons later..

At what we have done.....PLUS the new coaches and management...

And people actually are suprised I have us going 14-2?

If this team can win 4 games in row with Todd Collins...what can McNabb do?

The point of all this wild stuff I got here is simple.....

I don't think critics and even Redskins fans realize...just how bad jason campell really is/was!

We'll probably look like the 91 skins compared to what we've seen...lol
It's that much of an improvement...

At least...that's my theory anyways...

This thread is ridiculous. Let the team take the field and play an actual game. Predicting these kinds of things is as pointless as guessing lottery numbers. You just don't know until there are actual results. Obviously being confident is one thing and as a Redskins fan I do it yearly. Who doesn't love the optimistic feeling going into a season when the team is still 0-0. Until we see them win or lose the inclination is to think big.

And I don't get the "I have been a Redskins fan since I was 4 years old" Does that make you better than everyone else? I believe the people who tag numbers to things like that are just tooting their own horn.

I know a good Redskins team who I see one too..Put the team on the field..Win games and Bam, there you have it.

Santana Moss is no prize WR...JC had him on so many plays last year that resulted in Moss just dropping the ball or not giving 100% effort even if the ball was off a tad bit. We have decent receivers, nothing more or special...certainly no goto receiver. I hope McNabb and the coaches can get more out of this bunch.

"You aint seen nuttin yet" wait until the game day threads start up. I do agree with you about speculation, it's never been a good friend of mine either. However, you must remember, that's what people do on the fan message boards, speculate and predict.

This is so true who cares we all been fans for a long time. The old lady across street from my house has been a fan longer then I have been alive (37 years) but ever time I see her she ask now what is this new QB's name? I keep forgetting.

Length of fanship doesn't constituted knowledge of the team.

I nominate this thread for the Thread Hell area.

Just offering up a little dose of sarcasm in my post about lending a little discussion to one that's been a fan since he was 4 yrs old. I don't know how old he is now, nor does it matter.

The question is or should be, "on paper" our recievers are better than what team? In our own division, I would have to say we are below NYG, Dallas, and maybe at best a wash w/ Phili. Yes, we're definately lower 1/4 though. But, hey, like someone said you've got to have a QB to evaluate (and a OL) talent. I think we've got a QB now, let's hope the OL holds up this year.

I have believed and always believed and maintained to believe...that Jason Campbell, made the WR's look worse...than they really were.
I told many people.....over and over and over and over and over again....that if all the redskins did was change QB's or improve at th QB position...Our wr's would look much better.

If all we ever did thids offseason was go from campbell to mcnabb

This team could throw the ball.
Yes,I believe JC really sucks!(which is why I laugh at the "raiders are going to be good" sentiments..lol)

we miraculously won 4 games in a row behind the great todd collins...and made the playoffs...

Don't blame Mr. Stand in, take the hit, get up, stand in, have no time because of the line, stand in, get hit right away, stand in, get body slammed, stand in, have to run because of line breakdown, stand in, throw and watch WRs drop balls. Stand in and have an OL/DL slam into your rib cage just under your extended arm just before release. Do it all again the next year with a new Offensive coordinator, and the next year, another new OC, and the next.

For years, vinnie-look-inna-my-eyes neglected to rebuild the OL. Don't blame gutsy JC for the absolutely horrific OL along with the lack of OL depth! Did you think TC got in there because HOF Coach Gibbs wanted JC out? No, his line broke down, and he went down, again! That's why!

BTW, I've probably got socks older than you, (Clean of course) and been a B&G fan since the late '60s. Enough with the 4 years old junk.

The fact that Joey Galloway is starting on this team is horrific. We need Devin Thomas to play out of his mind this year.

The production from the Wr corp will come from Moss and the newbies(Armstrong and Banks). You can only hope that DT can step it up to become a legit #2, but that may not happen. VJ isn't going to happen, so we will have to draft a guy or acquire a FA Wr next offseason and the next. Our Wr corp is serviceable, but that is the extent of it.

We're clearly last in the division. Look up what Philly did last year with Jackson, Maclin, and Avant. Our group isn't even close right now.
