Would the Steelers really trade Ben?

Rooney says Steelers have not talked to other teams about Big Ben trade | ProFootballTalk.com

If you are the Rams do you give the number 1 pick away for a 2 Time SB winning qb in his prime? Or maybe Oakland giving up the 8th overall pick... I would think this is all just speculation but after Philly traded McNABB to us, and Haynesworth also rumored to be dealt, I wouldn't be shocked with anything anymore?

Re: Would the Steelers really trade Ben?

I think Rooney is pretty pissed off but trading Holmes sent the message he wanted to get across. Trading a franchise QB with no solid backup plan in place would be suicide.

Re: Would the Steelers really trade Ben?

^ Agreed. The Rams are set on taking Bradford I believe. The Steelers would probably not want to start all over again with a rookie QB, or rely on Batch/Dixon/Randle El.

This is a rumor that's blowing things way out of proportion. Yes, Rooney is beyond angry with Ben. Yes, I think he'll suspend him if the league doesn't. However, he's their QB and until Roethlisberger does something really severe (jail time, full-year suspension), he'll be retained as their QB.

Remember, Jerome Harrison is still on the team. While Holmes was sacrificed to send a message to Ben, the team isn't completely opposed to keeping bad characters around. In fact, because Holmes was almost cut/was traded to send a signal to Roethlisberger shows that they really want him to straighten up and remain on the team...they do value him as a football player but they'll probably just have to tolerate him as a human being. Their ultimate goal is still winning.

Witness statements just came out on PFT and smoking gun. The steelers want no part of what is coming.

Re: Would the Steelers really trade Ben?

I wouldn't have given him a 100 million dollar contract to begin with. If I could get someone to take that contract, that's as good as cash-money.

It is, I say.

Agreed, Big Ben is looking at serious time lost, as in a major suspension. Reportedly, the Steeler faithful have had enough, and would be ok if they dealt him. I can see Buffalo or Oakland making a play for him

GTripp0012 04-15-2010 08:28 PM

Re: Would the Steelers really trade Ben?

That's actually a trade that Oakland SHOULD do.

I'd imagine Pittsburgh would probably try the trade for Campbell/draft a guy route if they actually dealt Big Ben. I don't actually think it will come to a head this year, but who knows? The Rooneys apparently make impulse decisions.

I agree. You can just tell that Rooney is sick that the face of his franchise is gigantic scumbag. But the guy has won 2 Super Bowls. You can't trade him, as much as I'm sure Rooney wants to.

Re: Would the Steelers really trade Ben?

Some excerpts from the witness statements:

"Ben asked us to go to his 'VIP' area. . . . We all went with him. He said there were shots for us, numerous shots were on the bar, and he told us to take them. His bodyguard came and took my arm and said come with me, he escorted me into a side door/hallway, and sat me on a stool. He left and Ben came back with his penis out of his pants. I told him it wasn't OK, no, we don't need to do this and I proceeded to get up and try to leave. I went to the first door I saw, which happened to be a bathroom. He followed me into the bathroom and shut the door behind him. I still said no, this is not OK, and he then had sex with me. He said it was OK. He then left without saying anything. I went out of the hallway/door to the side where I saw my friends. We left [the club] and went to the first police car we saw."

"His bodyguards took him back to the rooms w/bathroom and I said, 'I don't know if this is a good idea' and he said 'it's OK.' He has sex w/me and meanwhile his bodyguards told me friends they couldn't pass them to get to me. My friends found me & talked to a Milledgeville policeman and he said to report it."

Ann Marie Lubatti said that she saw Roethlisberger's bodyguards guide the alleged victim to a side door, and that two minutes later she saw Roethlisberger walk back there. "I immediately went up to the other bodyguard and said, 'this isn't right,'" Lubatti said in her statement. "'My friend is back there with Ben. She needs to come back right now.' The bodyguard wouldn't look at me, he just said, 'I don't know what you are talking about.'"

Now that I'm hearing the details coming out about this whole ordeal, there are now exactly two players who I would stand up and actually scream at visciously if I had seats near the visiting bench at Fed Ex. I think Ben is right up there with Vick in my mind, as a complete piece of trash. I'm so disgusted by both of them that I'd actually become that guy at the game, the guy who just won't stop angrily heckling.

I'd probably stroke out from yelling so much.

Roeth = Big, stinkin' PoS. He is a heartless piece of human filth, I hope the rest of his career is a complete failure.

Well if she originally said I don't know if this is a good idea.. she showed no signs of being forced to have sex.. well she should've said no.. he shouldn't have taken advantage of her either

hell I've heard that line before but it was usually with a girl I used to date who was with somebody else at the time.. or if it was a kind of public spot.. not the same situation and it was all consensual, but unfortunately if she didn't say no.. she didn't say no

unfortunate situation for everyone.. ben's still a scumbag

I wish I could agree with you but guys who put up 4,000 yards and 100+ QB ratings that have two super bowl rings(leading them to and being there to win the first one and being mainly responsible for winning the second one) don't come along everyday. I saw a Steelers fan on a forum list all the QB's since Bradshaw and cringed at the idea of having to look for another one.
I think there are several teams without legit starting QB's. Whether they will get an offer they can accept is another matter.

Sad story in sports. Many people seem to forget that Mike Tyson actually went to jail for rape. However the difference between Vick and Big Ben is that Ben has allegedly engaged in a horrible act against another person Vick's offense (and I can't believe I'm going to say this) was against dogs. They're both detestable but if Big Ben's story is true then I would easily put him ahead of Vick for the biggest scumbag under center.

Also if it's true then maybe we could hire this guy:

I'm not trying to engage in debate over Vick v. Ben, sounds like both deserve serious punishment, but IMO the more serious criminal aspect of Vick's behavior wasn't just that he partook in dog fighting & gambling, but that he bankrolled an illegal organization over a period of time.

I think that it's often overlooked when people talk about Vick. It wasn't as if he just attended a few dog fitghts & placed bets, he was virtually the dogfighting league comish!

In regards to the question I think anybody can be traded at anytime. You will always find away a team willing to give talent a second chance. I mean look at our situation of Phat Albert the guy is a top talent on the D in his prime, and we our fielding offers.

The comparison of JC to Big Ben though...freakin please...lolololololololololol. Yall are really waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to funny. lol good one.

As much I think Ben R. is a trailor trash piece of shit I just don't think this girls story rings up. She's in the bathroom she can still say no. If she simply stood there and did nothing then she would have serious injuries if he really forced himself on her. think of how tough it would be to rape someone in a bathroom if she was 100% against it. She was apprehensive but she gave in and probably regretted it once the act was over. If I were Pittsburgh I would get rid of him ASAP but his contract probably doesn't allow it.

We can speculate, but if the story was true the girl was probably afraid with the bodyguards outside and she's face to face alone in a bathroom with a NFL player. last i checked ben wasnt a small dude. Probably no telling what her mind was going through as far as what would happen if she resisted with violence in that situation. just my 2

I kind of feel the same way, though there was enough there for Ben to let off and try for some slut that was totally down for it. Her walking away the first time should've been enough, maybe not legally though.

Well, she did have vaginal tearing (gross) and bruising as well.

I'm totally disgusted with Ben Roethlisberger. He's a piece of white trash garbage, through and through.

That said, GTripp and Saden1, I'd love to hear why you think he's not a good QB. You can DVOA and Football Outsider-me to death, the guy just wins, and puts up pretty damn good numbers in the process.
