Redskins Sign DT Anthony Bryant

I know nothing about this guy

Anthony Bryant

probably just camp fodder, shouldn't be construed as a sign that AH is out the door, maybe didn't even need to be its own thread but I'm feeling wild!

Matt Terl:
Well, Bryant stands 6'3" and lists at 335 pounds, which is certainly stump-type enough, and the brief time I saw him today leads me to believe that 335 might be a slightly outdated number. He is a big, big dude. He may not make much of an impact -- may not make any impact at all, in fact -- but he sure seems to have the size to anchor the nose.
...
And the picture of him next to a five-year-old gives you some perspective on how huge he is.
J. Reid calls him a NT. This is another indicator of a move to the 3-4.

Or, he could be camp fodder, and who knows Jim Hasletts Defensive mindset.

Take another look at your Marshall stats. One of the years is wrong.

I wish we could grab some O-linemen from the dumpster too. Even though they also would be gone by the season, it'd at least make me feel better. ;) I'm sure there are some big dudes eating their lives away in Miami that could lose 100 lbs by the start of the season and be a starting O-linemen for us...

Re: Redskins Sign DT Anthony Bryant
Depth behind Ma'ake?
I think you may be closer to the truth than anyone else. Montgomery can begin the season as the nose tackle if Ma'ake is not ready but Bryant should provide some insurance just in case Ma'ake has a setback because he may not be at full strength until October or November. However this is a pretty good sign that we are passing on any defensive tackles in the draft in place of offensive linemen and Inside linebackers.

are you kidding? Bryant has like 5 tackles, for his nfl career.

Well he is young and if he gives it 110% he can be a good stopgap for the season. You never know he might get coached up.

Re: Redskins Sign DT Anthony Bryant

The guy looks the part (as a NT). The question is has he played the part before. The Bucs and Lions are a 4-3 D and only the Fins are a 3-4, though he played in only 1 game. Hope he has hidden abilities that Bucs, Lions & Fins have missed that we can unearth.

I guess as long as he keeps the LB's clean.

tryfuhl 04-12-2010 09:53 PM

Re: Redskins Sign DT Anthony Bryant

I highly doubt that signing a guy who's done nothing is a pretty good sign that we'll pass on DT's. We may not address the position in the draft (at least high picks.. err.. pick so far), but this isn't the reason why.

A guy with 11 tackles allows us to move the best DT in the league? I would say it is more likely AH gets to play DE in the 3-4

Did anyone hear on 980 that Haslett wanted to run predominantly 4-3. The rumor is that MS over ruled him and is forcing the 3-4.

Probably not a big deal but not something I wanted to hear.

He looks like he is about to eat him. The kid is getting excited because he thinks he is going on a Magic School Bus field trip.

I never heard that. But adding this guy shows that Big Al will play DE the majority of the time, and once everything starts rolling will see how they will use him. I see this as a good signing, Jim Haslett is one of the best D.Cords in the league and has been IMO.

That wouldn't surprise me; if this is true Mike needs to realize that he's not a DC and to leave that job to the guy that he hired. I understand the desire to eventually get the switch through, but mold it into that, don't create it out of nothing. It's not like he's had a lot of defensive success lately (Shanahan that is). He definitely reminds me of a guy that would have his hand in everything and by past accounts that's true, but sometimes you've got to realize that you hired a guy for a reason.

How? He's instantly going to become a starter for us?

No doubt. If we end up trading AH and misusing Carter because Shanahan decides to force a 3-4 defense, he better be scoring 30 points a game.

That wouldn't be any different than Zorn forcing his version of the West Coast on the guys he was given.

This guy will be lucky to make it past the first cut. I would say it is more likely that Montgomery starts at NT than Bryant. If Kemo gets healthy ahead of schedule, Bryant is history.

I didn't say he was going to become an instant starter. You can see they have brought two guys in already that fit the typical NT position. Which Al doesn't, and as we keep hearing about competion at ever position. Who knows what is going to happen?

His lack of tackles really doesn't bother me because a nose takle is nothing more than a space eater anyway. Judging from looks something tells me that this guy can eat a lot of space. Hell, it looks like he can eat a lot of things.

I thought it was Antonio at first glance...whew...we don't need/want him. Let the Bungles keep him.

This guy is not worth a thread, he most likely won't even make the team and if he does, won't last the year.

He never stays long where he goes...NJ Giants cut him after 3 months.
