Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
I just love to watch both Manning and Brady. Two field generals that do it from the pocket. Should be a great game to watch.

Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Poor Clock Management and bit in the ass by a cocky call Suck it Bill!
|
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Wow Bellicheat deserved that loss. He is so freaking arrogant to go for it. They had the game won, but he thinks he is so good and that they are playing a video game.
Karma is a bitch. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
What the hell was that? I don't care what team you are, coach you are, QB you are, etc... you don't go for it on 4 and 3 on your own 30 up by 6 like that. That is just a wow stupid move. Belichek...what?
|
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Wow, I stopped watching the game when they had like 7 min. left and the Colts just threw another INT. I figured down 10 points they would not get it done in time. Yet they came back and won 35 to 34. Holly Cow. I wish we had that kind of clock management and 2 min. drills.

Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
This was one of the top 5 best football games I've ever seen. It also showed that Peyton Manning is one of the greatest QB's of all time, and in the league. Even when he had thrown the pick with 7 minutes left and you say to yourself "this games over" but then all of a sudden Peyton just comes up big again. And I hate Belichek and Brady, so I'm very happy that they lost on their own stupid play call. HAHA!

I'm on the fence with that call. If you punt it away the Colts still had all of their timeouts and more than enough time to put a drive together. Ballsy call, but when you have Brady and those WRs I don't have a huge problem with putting the game in their hands. |

Many will probably take issue with the call because it didn't work. Maybe the majority of NFL coaches would have punted the ball away and took their chances. The Colts put together the winning drive, but they should have been made to do it from farther away. |

I would agree with this, except that the same thing happened during the Super Bowl against the Giants (somewhat similar, except that they could have risked a long field goal) so given this one would expect a different decision. That being said, I think this shows that Belichick doesn't trust his defense that much. |

With that in mind then I'd go for every reasonable 4th down then. I don't care what team you are you don't do something that has the distinct possibility of givng Peyton Manning 2 minutes to go 30 yards to win a game. You have to make it harder. Was there even a remtoe doubt that they'd get a TD there? I tend to agree that the NFL group-think punt on 4th down every time mentality is wrong but I think you just have to punt there. |

I would have punted too. But whether it's 30 yards or 60 yards, with 3 timeouts and Manning under center, I'm not liking my chances either way. Especially with the way the Colts offense was clicking and the Pats D was struggling to stop much of anything. Belichick saw the chance to seal the game... it was obviously a high risk/reward situation and he rolled the dice and lost. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
I love that call by belichick...its speaks perfectly to his overconfidence that his team can do anything at will and to just get it shoved up his throat by the Colts..sweet!
I am sure close to everyone on this board remembers the beating this team put on the Redskins 1-2 seasons ago and them just running up the points so any wrench in the Patriots war machine is good to see. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
I thought BB did the right thing. That's why he's a great coach. He doesn't even think about not converting. The refs just dicked them w/ that terrible PI call and the defense was playing bad. I bet he was thinking if Indy scored he'd get the ball back w/ enough time to kick a FG.

Then his strategy should have been to just let them score on the first play. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
On a side not isn't it just fun to watch Brady and Manning do their thing? It's no surprise that these two are the best at what they do. I swear these two guys have the best mechanics I've ever seen, great footwork, insane accuracy, great at the play action game, nice throwing motion and pocket pressence. If you take Manning off of Indy they might be a 6-8 win team.

Forget the physical stuff. Both of these guys drop back and KNOW exactly where the ball is going. They aren't making decisions...they've already made the decision before the snap because they know their offense so well and do so much film work that they what is going to happen. Their physicals are great but their mentals are off the charts. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Whether you agree or disagree with the call, you have to give Belichick credit for having balls of steel.
|
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Crap, I went to bed with the Pats up 31-14.
Thrilled that the Colts beat them (when I found out this morning!) |

Not really, I don't think Zorn has anything made of steel when he calls stupid plays on 4th down, so I won't give Belichek credit for his mistakes either. |

So you don't think that two fake field goals are not gutsy? On a separate note, those that criticize Bellichick forget that this guy can do whatever the hell he wants b/c he has three SB rings. |
Whether you agree or disagree with the call, you have to give Belichick credit for having balls of steel.
No, I give Belicheat credit for losing the game. If ANY other coach makes that call inside their OWN 30 yard line and fails, they get crucified. Why should it be any different for Belicheat???

Because he has three Super Bowl rings, that's why. Don't get me wrong, I hate the guy, but the whole allure of his SB wins hasn't gone away yet with the whiny Boston fans. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Bad call on 4th down. Don't care how good you are, you kick the ball and let them go the distance. Very bad coaching decision and I'm very happy to see the Pats lose. Looking at the rest of the Colts' schedule they just might go undefeated though I suspect they have more class than the Pats and will probably rest their players towards the end.

I'm thrilled to see the Pats lose, but I probably would have made the same call in Belichick's shoes. If you punt, you give Manning a ton of time. I'd rather try to put the game away with Brady/Moss/Welker on 4th and 3 than give the defense an extra 30-40 yards to attempt to stop Manning. Obviously it looks like bad call because they didn't get it, but if he punts there, the Colts still probably would have scored with the way their offense was playing. Either way, Pats O >>> Pats D and given a reasonable choice, I'd put the game in the hands of my better unit. |

It is quite possible that New Orleans and Indy meet in the SB with competing 17-0 records. What would those poor '72 Miami guys do then? Also, I cannot think of any better karmic kick in the ass to the Hoodie than having to watch the Colts get the perfect season that he came so close to having. |

There's no Chargers or Steelers lurking on the December schedule to ruin it like in 2005. I think 16-0 is happening for the Colts. And the Saints could easily win 14 or 15. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
What the hell was Belichick thinking about. Even Jim Zorn would have punted the ball on fourth-and-2 from your own 28 yard line with 2:08 to go and a 6 point lead. Belichick has a lot of faith in his offense but none in his defense. I don't know of any high school coaches that would have gone for it in that situation. Dumb.
|
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Belichick has like a 75% success rate (or something like that) with going for it on 4th down. It's a gutsy call to be sure, but gutsy calls are what have helped the Patriots win all those Super Bowls in recent years.
|
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Don't get me wrong, I would have punted.
But the folks at Advanced NFL Stats have done an analysis which says that, mathematically, Belichick actually made the right choice: Advanced NFL Stats: Belichick's 4th Down Decision vs the Colts |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Here is a prime example of how mathematical statistics can be taken out of context. One thing that wasn't considered in these statistics is the field position. Converting fourth-and-2 in the Red Zone is a whole lot different then attempting it on your side of the field. It's still a dumb decision.

How was field position not taken into account? In both equations the field position of Indy taking control of the ball is accounted for. I remember Zorn did something similar back in his glory days of 6-2 and was hailed for being gutsy. Sometimes as a head coach you grab the game and go for it. That said I would have punted. |
Re: Week 10: Around the NFL - Manning vs. Brady Edition
Clev's offense is simply unwatchable. They need a QB, RB, and WR's.
