Gameplan/Predictions: Bears v Skins

I guess not posting predictions and gameplans didn't change our luck any, so post away. I decided to combine the two since they kind of go hand in hand.

Redskins_P 10-14-2004 09:43 AM

I'm not predicting anything, but I will say what I think our gameplan should be.

I think we need to open the offense up a little more. More 3 WRs sets and possibly 4. I also think it's time for trick play like a reverse or flee flicker. Those types of plays can provide a spark for the offense. By opening up the offense we can run some draws, traps, and delays to Portis. Maybe a screen pass to Portis or Morton. We just need to make some big plays. No more conservative running and passing.

On defense it's quite simple. Don't let Thomas Jones run all over us, and make that Quinn guy beat us by blitzing and putting 8 at the line. They do have some talent at WR, but I think our secondary can handle them. If Lavar plays use him on 3rd down for pass rushing, and I think this could be a breakout game for Taylor.

Special teams needs to step up. I would like to see Morton break one to put us in good field position.

Last but not least....eliminate the turnovers. Protect the QB. And no stupid penalties. Play smart sound football.

NY_Skinsfan 10-14-2004 11:21 AM

Last week we had 2 penalties for 22 yards...Let's try to keep that consistent. I agree with Redskins P's gameplan, but I really wish we were doing it with Ramsey rather than Brunell. I suppose I have to trust Gibbs though, after all he is Joe Gibbs.

x44x 10-14-2004 11:54 AM

lets throw the ball deep to keep those corners and safeties back, and then run the ball.

redwagonskins 10-14-2004 12:31 PM

The Bears O is a lot like the Ravens, a decent RB and not too much of a passing threat. Our D needs to just keep on keepin' on. If they play the way they played last week, we can hold the bears to 10 or less (perhaps a shutout).
Our O needs to get it together. With Urlacher in the middle, we need to be able to stretch the D with sweeps and screens. It would be nice to stretch the Bears vertically too but that may be hoping for too much. The key is to sustain some long drives to keep our D of the field and not give up points like every other game.
Hold on to the ball. Don't give up a score to the Bears D and let our D keep doing it's thing and we have a good shot.
Prediction
Skins 13 Bears 10

Can anyone tell me who the offensive coordinator was when westbrook and connel
were having 1000 + yard seasons. Even Brad Johnson was good. What offensive coordinator was that?

redrock-skins 10-14-2004 01:08 PM

I'll just be at my local bar at 10am (PST) with my few fellow die-hard fans.
I do think we should win this one but win it ugly.

Norv Turner...I think

illdefined 10-14-2004 02:55 PM

it was good to see Cooley in the FB position last week leading for Portis from the I formation. its a small offensive change to suit Portis, and even though we didnt get many yards, (it was Baltimore, and Cooley is a catching TE), at least the fumbles stopped.

i think we should try a couple more things to suit Portis style. everyone forgets that his first big 64 yd run was him improvising and taking off AGAINST the direction of the play, NOT him waiting for his blockers and following the design of the play (which was a counter to begin with, i know, what can i say, Portis has got MOVES).

i'd like to see some more I formation, and more sweeps and tosses. not only would it surprise the defense coming from Gibbs, but it would also set up some nice space up the middle for surprise draws. face it guys, we don't have the line (yet) nor the beefy back for the power inside running game. Portis gave it his ALL, but we saw what happened and we're lucky he didnt get hurt. experiment over.

can someone PLEASE spare Coles playing in the middle??? thats supposed to be Gardner's job! he's more equipped to handle the hits. if Coles can't play the outside threats down the field cuz of injury, then put Jacobs in. we need speed to keep the safeties back and Brunell needs to learn how to @#$% LEAD a receiver.

sorry, guys im pissed by now. it all seems like common sense to me. of course Joe Gibbs knows more football in a fingernail clipping than 1000000 of me, but sound philosopy, discipline, and even flawless execution WON'T add 30lbs to Portis's frame NOR take away 6 years from Brunell's arm (nor bring Jansen back for that matter).

i'm getting a familiar sense from last year for frustrating lack of adjustment. now this is NOT Spurrier, who's college scheme was flawed in the NFL and wouldn't adjust, Gibbs schemes are foundation NFL - but we're running up against obvious personnel limits here and it needs to be worked around NOW before our players lose the DESIRE to execute..

I have stuff to do/go to on Sunday...so I'm gonna try to NOT watch the game...maybe if I don't watch it, they'll win.
Norv Turner...I think
So when Norv is fired by Al Davis...Gibbs oughta hire him to replace Don Breaux...lol

sportscurmudgeon 10-14-2004 04:03 PM

Redskins win a low scoring game. Defense does a lot of different things to shock and amaze Jonathon Quinn at QB. Offense keeps it simple and plays field position football.

Danger signal will be if the Bears' special teams start breaking off returns of punts. That is the single best way to lose a field position game.

Key item will be to keep penalties under control. If the Bears have to execute a lot of 2nd and 8 and/or 3rd and 8 situations, the Skins should be just fine. If we give them first downs, they can make one or two plays and win the game.

Bears' secondary is injured but the guys out there play hard on every play. Watched the Eagles beat the Bears and those guys never quit even though the Eagles marched up and down the field on them. I believe the Eagles had 450 yards of offense on the Bears and they probably only threw deep about twice because the Bears played Cover-2 on everything other than 3rd and inches. So this is a game for Gardner to be the posession receiver and hold onto about 6 or 7 passes for at least 5 first downs.

Prediction: Washington 20 Chicago 13

RedskinRat 10-14-2004 04:14 PM

I see us win in a landslide, but I also see the NHL getting their collective shit together before much longer. That's why I'm glad we have you here, Sports, you bring rational to the irrational.

SmootSmack 10-14-2004 05:36 PM

Well I just simulated the game on 2K5 and the Redskins won an ugly, ugly game. In the pouring rain they pulled it out 10-7. Brunell went 6-9 for 75 yards (can't get more real than that!) and Portis had 14 carries for 112 yards and 1 TD.

I don't think it will be that ugly. For one thing I'm not expecting a monsoon in Chicago on Sunday. I think the key is to make Quinn beat us and that means taking an early lead so they have to play catch up. It's time to open up that offensive and be more aggresive. Start the game with something like a reverse to Gardner, something like that

4TH RING 10-14-2004 09:48 PM

OFFENSE

I think Gibbs comes out throwing first and running second in order to keep their D honest. So I expect to see a lot of short & mid-range routes from our backs and recievers in order to get Brunell in a rythm early in the game. I think once we have some continuity, the holes start opening up for Portis and he goes for 100 yds. Also, Jacobs gets more balls thrown his way when he's in.

DEFENSE

I think we see more of the same. We make them beat us through the air, which I doubt they'll do. 4 sacks 2 int's and we keep Jones to under 80 yds.

Bottom line is I think Gibbs knows the importance of this game, going into the bye & coming off of 4 losses in a row he'll have them ready.

Portis scores, Cooley scores, and our D holds them to field goals.

Prediction & Gameplan

I predict we win. We gameplan to win!

Gmanc711 10-15-2004 01:24 AM

We really .... REALLY need this game. If our offense has any pride whatsoever, they will come out freaking on fire Sunday. If they crash and burn again, we really have to look at the direction, on that side of the ball. The Bears offense sucks, so I think our Defense will keep them in check for the most part, with them getting a couple drive's I would assume. Their defense can create turnovers too, so our offense has to step it up. If we can score 17 points, I'm pretty sure we'll win.

MTK 10-15-2004 09:24 AM

It's around this time of the week when I get tired of talking about all the negatives. We really need a win so we can at least start discussing some different topics around here. Let's hope the Skins start to answer some questions this week instead of creating new ones.

Skins win ugly, offense rips it up for 2 TD's!

20-10 final

That Guy 10-15-2004 09:28 AM

i simmed on madden 2k5, we lost, but grossman hit booker for 3 TDs in the 4th quarter, so... (brunell had 107 yards lol)... going to sub out some players and try a more appropriate setup...

Brunell 107 yds? That doesn't surprise me. That guy, try to simulate it with Ramsey and see what happens.

Bozzy 10-15-2004 02:09 PM

Redskins will lose again and go into the bye at 1-5.

Bears 20
Skins 6.5 (we'll lose half a point because our owner will run onto the field and expose himself, out of frustration)

Riggo44 10-15-2004 03:25 PM

I think we are going to break out on O and score 21 point's! The D will add another T.D the final will be 28 to 9. SKINS BABY!!! :headbange

:httr:

SmootSmack 10-15-2004 03:31 PM

I say we get sweet revenge and win 73-0. Do it for Sammy Baugh!!

:httr:
If we score 10 points on offense, without the defense setting it up, I'd consider it a break out day LOL. Seriously, we need a couple TD drives that are unassistaed by the defense.

Bozzy 10-15-2004 11:16 PM

Like our opening drive against Tampa...

That Guy 10-16-2004 06:56 AM

ramsey averages 5.0 yards per pass, brunell 4.0...
TD/int is about the same (brunell doesn't throw every other pass away in madden though)... ramsey was much better at converting 3rd downs (which would be inline with the higher ypp number)

even without hall, arrington, barrow, bowen, iffy, jansen, cartwright etc, skins still win... the blocking is horrible though... every game the QBs end up on their backs a lot, and the running game doesn't get many big gains... if you stick jansen in, or trade portis to the chiefs, his numbers skyrocket though... kinda interesting...

SUNRA 10-16-2004 04:55 PM
Like our opening drive against Tampa...
I liked our opening drive against the Giants. It looked like the it was going to be a long day for the Giants, but rather than repeat the bootleg play we started running and turning the ball over. But that first drive on Tampa and New York shows that this offense can be successful threw execution.

SmootSmack 10-16-2004 05:16 PM

That opening drive against the Giants was nearly flawless. A sign of what this offense is capable of

Gmanc711 10-16-2004 05:19 PM

Even the opening drive vs Cleveland was awsome, except we couldnt punch it in for the TD. Once again, the question must be asked if teams respected our pass ear...nevermind, we dont need another war.

That Guy 10-16-2004 06:28 PM

gmanc, there's no war to be had... no one respects our passing game right now, and they won't until we can prove we have one ;)

I just want the win, but what's even more important is that the offense show *SOME* sign of life, some improvement, some signal that things will eventually get better...

if i don't see anything new, i'd say stick ramsey in, ride out the year and see how things fall...
