The injury bug and the Wizard's is like Jack on the Rock's. Automatic. How long do you think Arenas will last..? This can't be of any surprise. |

I always thought he was a middle of the pack coach. Not an elite coach, but above average. Get used to that Princeton offense. I wasn't much of a fan of it but offense was never really our problem under Jordan as much as it was the d. As for the Wizards, I'm actually excited about our prospects this upcoming year. Losing Jamison for the first 13-18 or so games hurts but I'd rather overcome our lumps in the early season than have to deal with it around playoff time. Hopefully Arenas can stay healthy and lead this offense. And for all the talk I've heard about Blatche and Young becoming more focused, putting in all the work, etc. during the offseason, if they don't show it on the court it will be for naught. They remind me of DT and MK, all offseason we heard how much they are improving but they haven't done anything so far during the season. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
thanks mooby. he has got to be better then Tony Dileo, and the other scrubs the sixers have trotted out there the last couple of seasons
|
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
There always seemed to be drama within the locker room surrounding Jordan. Maybe it was just the presence of Arenas but I think it was a problem.

Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Smoot: Thanks for starting this thread. I'm pretty excited about this year, but we've got to go at least .500 while Antawn's out. Although I like what Oberto's shown in the preseason, I hope Saunders gives Blatche substantial minutes and lets him work through mistakes. This could be a great growing period for him since he'd be in his natural position at the 4 instead of the 5 where he got most of his minutes last year.
Mooby: Completely agree with you on Jordan. I got tired of the Princeton offense and although Eddie is a nice guy, and from DC, I ended up getting tired of what I saw as unfocused and sometimes passive leadership. With all our health problems, can't really blame him too much. I'll always be grateful for bringing us back to the playoffs, but I'm not sad to see him go. Frankly, I'm more excited about the hiring of Saunders than any of the player acquisitions. I think he's just as important to our progress as Gil being healthy again. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Anybody watch the season opener tonight? Man I'm even more pumped than I was before it started lol. Just hearing Phil do his classic "DAGGERRRRR" at the end brought me back to better times for the Wiz. Looks like the moves Ernie Grunfield did in the season are right so far. Miller was good, Foye came up huge matching Dallas' tempo at the end, and I can't say how much fun it was watching Arenas play like I haven't seen him play in what feels like 3 years now. And it wasn't even an individual effort as much as it was a complete team effort. The d was good as well holding Dallas to a 39.5 shooting percentage. Just a complete team effort all around, the scoring was spread around, and it didn't feel like Arenas was carrying the team even though he led the Wiz with 29 points. Sign of things to come? I sure hope so.

Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
I have nothing bad to say about our team. Strong effort on both sides of the ball. We dominated Dallas the entire game and I never felt worried.
I was particularly impressed with Blatche and Oberto. Arenas looked ridiculous. I didn't miss Jamison at all. I am pretty excited about this season. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
I watched for a little bit after the caps game...and really liked what I saw. This is an entirely different team.
|
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Give Miller the start at the 2 and match Arenas with Foye to close out. Both are super clutch and if Butler's game is off, replace CB with Miller and we'd have three guys who could absolutely destroy teams in the 4th quarter.
Oberto's impact won't show up on stats, but he neutralized Dirk last night. Gil is looking to be much more efficient. I'd even think Jamison could improve the team by coming off the bench, if AB is up to starting. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Great to see Gil back to his old self...I hope it lasts all season.
Should be a great year...a lot of quality depth, especially at SG where we needed help. Critterton, Nick Young and Mike James did not even get on the court in the first game, but are some solid reserves. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Tough loss against a division opponent tonight. Hopefully Caron's injury isn't anything serious.
Wizards just could not get their shots down tonight. Bench struggled with Foye and Young going something like a combined 4-20. And Arenas with 7 turnovers. Ugh. Not good |

I didn't see any of the game. What happened to Caron?? First Jamison, now him? This shit better not be happening again. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Jamison isn't too much on defense, so if we can keep scoring to offset his average ppg and rebounds the Bulle...Wizards will be all right. I expected them to lose to Dallas because it was a road game, so they pleasantly surprised me.

Wonderful. I figured with the new players (Oberto, Miller, Foye) and new coaching staff it would take a while for the team to start gelling and playing playoff brand basketball. Losing 2 of our big 3 just two games in is not gonna help. Here's hoping Caron gets back soon. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Big game for the Wiz tonight.

tough loss tonight.. too many mistakes and turnovers
hell of a game though watching arenas and d-wade on top of their games |

Jordan is a good coach. It was nice he was able to get us to the play offs a few times but the system just does not seem like a system that will take a team into the finals and allow them to win the big one. Maybe it was our player personel, which I would then argue why didn't he get the players he needed. Our team always seemed to have the smaller faster players, but we never ran up and down the court to tire out other teams. A family member described the system as being a system that it's all about getting the ball up court then it's pass, pass, pass, use up the clock and shoot. Our system we are using now is more of a get the ball up court and shoot style of system. Perhaps some of you will argue with me but I felt my family member was somewhat correct. As much as I liked Jordan as a coach I'm glad he's gone and we have moved on. It's nothing against Jordan it's just his system got old with me quick. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
On another note......
I was sooo pissed watching the Wiz/Cavs game. It seemed like the Refs were calling all the penalties on the Wiz and looked the other way when any of the Cavs committed fouls. I don't mean to sound like a sour puss. I know it may take another yr for Saunders to get his roster up to speed on the types of players he needs to run his system but it just seemed so one sided. Then last night against the Heat we seemed down by 10-15 points all game then after the half we kept it close. In the last 4 min. it seemed like the Refs were calling fouls against us again and not the Heat. Maybe you BB officianado's can correct me but both nights I had to change the channel cause I found myself yelling at a T.V. that obviously was not interacting with me or fixing the problem. :) lol. It left me wondering is there a possibility that the Refs could be doing this for a reason? I know we had different Refs for both games but I really felt that maybe Saunders had pissed off the Referee's in a previous life or are the Refs really trying to make sure the team that was supposed to win...won. Perhaps I'm wrong and someone can say.....no your wrong....but the Cavs game left me wanting to write the NBA about the game and wondering if Saunders was going to send the video to them for preview. I'm more of a Football/Hockey fan but have been getting interested in the Wiz recently. So maybe I'm way off. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
The refs in the Cavs game were pretty ridiculous, but it wasn't as bad against Miami. I was at the Miami game, and w just killed ourselves. Gil was forcing shots all night, and really had some bad decisions and weak execution at the end of the game. His stats illustrate how poorly he orchestrated our offense for stretches (33% shooting and 3 assists to 3 turnovers).
Deshawn missed both free throws with the game tied and under a minute left. Shame Miller was injured, because he would have been much better in the game than Stevenson down the stretch. Heck, I would have prefered Foye or Young. I hope Deshawn played himself out of the rotation last night. I'm a big fan of the team, and I think last night's game was more a reflection of Gil's rust and the newness of the system being implemented. We sure could have used Antawn. Like I said before, I'll be satisfied if we're at .500 once Antawn returns. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Sweet win over the Cavs after they were up by 7 going into halftime. I hate the bs call thats James gets, but nice to see we can get it done without Gil going crazy for 30.

Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Huge win. Miller with some big 3s and some nice D by DeShawn
|
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
GREAT WIN!
Antawn took no time to get back into the groove...I must also say that Earl Boykins was a great pickup. He's always been a sparkplug to any team he's been on and I've been a fan of his for years. (Love the midget PGs as I was one myself at 5'6") |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
sixers looking to sign Iverson. i like it, as a sixer fan. any thoughts?
|
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
I think it's good place for him to retire. Not sure how much he adds, but it would be nice to see him getting some love from the Sixers fans after all he's been through since leaving Philly.

Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
I thought this would be the year that the Wizards really showed us that they're a first class team. However, I'm really fed up with Arenas. When are we ever going to get a real leader on the team? First, Arenas says some bad things about Butler, presumably because the team is losing ball games. Now Arenas can't even make free throws when the game is on the line. Arenas must be talking too much and taking advice from Clinton Portis!
|
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
The Wiz are very disappointing this year. They're also pretty gut wrenching lately with all the close losses. Any word on when we get Mike Miller back?

LOL...why exactly did you think this? I said it a few years ago, the Wizards are disfunctional, and Arenas is not a leader. The wizards prove me right year in and year out. They are 7-16 right now, and not a playoff caliber team. You won't win many games when 2 of your top 3 scorers are shooting at a .414% and .402% clip. (.402% being Arenas who is averaging the most shots per game) This is simple, you should have traded Arenas when he was worth a ton to other teams, now he's not. This guy is a career 42.6% shooter...he's the new Antoine Walker. He puts up good "numbers" to snow a lot of people, but has next to nothing for substance to lead a team. When you look deeper, you see serious issues. He only averages 5.4 assists per game too. He does NOT make others better around him, something leaders do. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
after about 20 games, or so, you guys can have Eddie Jordan back. sits on the bench like he invented the game of b-ball.

He's nothing special man. There is a reason his career winning percentage before joining the sixers was .444! A lot of people here thought they had the talent to hang with the best of them, but eddie jordan was nothing more than mediocre. He's not a good coach, you will fire him before long. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
Great to see the return of Gilbert tonight. 45 points and 13 dimes?? Unreal. I predict we're going to see a much improved Wizards team over the next 30 days. Onward and upward.

Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
It was good to see Jamison address the crowd tonight, and the team really responded. Looks like the Wiz are really finished with Arenas- no longer selling his jerseys in the Verizon Center, his banner has been removed from the side of the building, and he's been edited out of the pre-game video.
I really hope we can void his contract and move on without him. |

When he had that monster game mentioned above we all thought it was about to get better. Now maybe it is but in a much different way. And yes I'm in favor of hopefully getting rid of Arenas' monster contract because of this. |

12 losses in a rows. 13 is the record for the wiz.

Re: Washington Wizards 2009-2010 Ongoing Thread
This has been a dark few days for the Wizards. First you have the Assistant US Attorney's recommended sentence against Gil, which seemed harsh, but was pretty well substantiated by Gil's actions following the incident in which he tried to cover it up. I know the Assistant US Attorney from law school, and he's a nice, down-to-earth guy, so I don't buy the arguments that he's trying to make a name for himself. Still, I hope Gil doesn't do any time. Good read by Steinberg on Sports Bog about Gil's charitable acts:
D.C. Sports Bog - The letters in Gilbert's defense Then Andray acts like a child and sits out a game. Won't be surprised if he's suspended for a few more. Flip was pissed. What really made me angry is that only a day or two before that he was complaining about being underpaid. Just finish out your contract as well as you've been playing and you will get paid. Oh, and don't get arrested for solicitation DURING CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS! I was just starting to like Blatche again, too. |
