Future/Rebuild/Good News?
Well what more is there to say about this season? It has, in my eyes, ended before it could even get started. So lets look at the positives.
*Jim Zorn is on his way out. One way or the other he's done. *Dan Snyder isn't stupid. If he could ever get his ego in check we'd have a good football team. Let's cross our fingers and hope he gets it soon. The writing is on the wall and all fingers point back to him and Cerrato. Fans are leaving this team or they just don't care anymore. I've talked to them in Richmond (big Skins town) and this is the case from my experience. *I don't think that Vinny has much time left. We have drafted a few O-Linemen over the past ten years but few have panned out, although some of the D-lineman have. His hit and miss talent evaluation game is done IMO. *Like it or not this is rock bottom. Don't even try to argue. When you get beat by the Lions you're done. Accept it and move on. *I think a lot of players are going to want to leave by the end of the season. Some already do, IE Carlos Rogers. This might be bad news to some; to me this is great news. Why? * It all starts at the top. If Danny can get his ego in check and turn this organization to a competent above average GM, then it would be a start. You don't make that kind of money being a fool. He took a huge step back after Gibbs left. Now he's having dinner with . . . . Gibbs? He has to look in the mirror and man up. You know he hears it. Jimmie Johnson has said it, commentators say it, fans say it, players say it, newspapers say it, everyone is saying it. This is your fault, you grifter mother effer. * Vinny and Zorn can hit the bricks together. * There is a big possibility that next year will be uncapped. Teams wouldn't be hurt as bad picking up a good Skins player for draft picks. The bad blood can leave for another team. We can cut guys we're tied to that are unproductive. * We've talked about how old our team is for a long time now. I've looked at the roster and we've a lot of young guys that could be the back bone of a rebuilt team, not to mention guys that are still in their prime. IE: Doughty, Horton, Tryon, McIntosh, Blades, Jarmon, Orakpo, Wilson, Golston, Montgomery, Haynesworth. Notice I didn't put any offensive players in that list. IMO opinion we should trade Cooley for draft picks to use on the o-line. I like the guy but it pains me see his talent go wasted. He is about the only player another team would want. * The coaches can hit the bricks too. Let the new GM pick who he wants, not some hodge podge of coaches picked by Vinny and Danny. This is all theoretical but for me this has been long enough. If Danny doesn't man up then I will, and switch to another team until he sells the Redskins. That's good news to me. Why should anyone waste their time watching this BS? Enough is enough, no more excuses! If you know more about football or this organization than I do, no stretch there, then chime in. What Sayeth The Mob? |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
Rehash.......but I agree starting over is where we are at.
|
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
We should rebuilt but only offensively defense is young and pretty good.
|
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
I don't think there's a whole lot of positives in this, because this wasn't meant to be a one-year turnover thing. The seeds for the success or failure of this team were set during the 2006, 2007, and 2008 drafts. We have done very well in the late rounds, but in the early rounds, not so much.
|
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
The good news is that this team has a lot of talent, if we can concentrate on rebuilding the OL through the draft, pick up a young RB and LB, we will be able to compete with anyone. I think Campbell would be better with some protection and benefit from a young, explosive RB. The bad news is that if our OL keeps going south this year that we will have to wait till next year. I would say goodbye to Randy Thomas, Phillip Daniels, Griffin, Smoot. This team does not need or could it afford to be blown up and rebuilt. Whoever inherits these team will have a great foundation and with some tweaking will get credit for the teams success.

Exactly. It's just no fun to be a Redskins fan anymore. Just like you said: why should anyone waste their time watching this BS? Answer: they shouldn't. Thanks Danny and Vinny for ruining my team! Neither of you know jack shit about football, but you've got your heads so far up each others asses you'd never know that. F you both for thinking you're geniuses. GTFO of the Redskins, so you can have butt sex full-time. |

I totally disagree. We have 7-9 win talent at best and the records around here the last few years shows that. |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
I heard it before but didn't think about it till you mentioned it but do you think maybe the dinner with Gibbs was to ask him if he would be the next GM? Didn't Gibbs supposedly say he wouldn't mind working in a front office job some day? If not then I hope Gibbs was laying it on the line with the slap in the face honesty so DS knows his best bet to get one of the remaining decent HC's is to get a decent GM and make whoever he's interested in as HC know he's backing way off now.
I think we did pretty good on defense this yr. but what would happen if Zorn or whoever, labled Phillip Daniels on IR? He only gets a part of his salary right? Can we go out and pick up someone else or does Daniels still count against our CAP as a whole? The offense as I see it is not as bad a fix as others believe, or so I think. WR-we are set with Kelly, Thomas, and Mitchell maybe bring in another late rounder or2. RB-keep Mason, Alridge and dump the rest. maybe look for a late round ground pounder. TE-we are set with Cooley/Davis, someone teach Davis to control the ball or can him. QB-dump Collins, trade JC for a pick(hopefully), look to draft a QB. Keep Colt and the new guy. OL-take a LT in 1st round and RT in 2nd. If we don't pick a QB. Cut our losses with the aged OL. Keep the young guys. Start building a young healthy fast OL. Save any defensive moves for later rounds and UFA's. |

I'm w/you, this team isn't that talented. There are a few stars, but there are areas where our talent level is well below avg. - O line, wr, OLB. |

I know that some people are happy with the Defense, but I would make one change. I would put Brian Orakpo on the DL where he belongs opposite of Jarmin and pick up a true SAM via FA or draft one late. Yeah, that pretty much means that Carter and Daniels would be gone or have to accept a reduced role. |

Here are my keepers: QB-Campbell (with a line he might be produce or he might not). RB-Mason, Alridge, Sellers, Portis (because of his contract) WR-Kelly, Thomas, Mitchell TE-Cooley, Davis OL-Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Montgomery, Williams DL-Haynesworth, Golston, Alexander, Orakpo, Jarmon, Carter LB-McIntosh, Blades, Fletcher, Wilson S-Landry, Doughty, Horton, Moore CB-Barnes, Tryon, Hall (only because of his contract)Rogers P-Smith |

He's a penalty machine. We can do much better. Thomas is questionable...so it not including Moss. I might swap those WRs. |

LOL. I did Portis cause of age and durability. Although I like Samuels, apparently he has some issue with his kneck? apparently had it for the last 2-3 yrs? Time to move on. I would keep the older guys maybe for the interior of the line until younger guys can be trained but the Tackle positions need new fresh blood. True Tackles. Carter I might use to spell people or let him go also. Other then that I like your list. Edit: I forgot about Rabach, He seems too small to me and gets run over by the bigger nose tackles. Maybe find a new younger Center....oh waite we picked one up last yr. :) |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
We need to keep JC as a backup at least but where is Moss?
Gone, time for either JC or whoever to lose their crutch. Moss gets over used now unless the team decided to move him to the 4th or 5th WR spot and have him relieve the young guys once and a while you could expect him to get over worked and injured again to only sit out a few games. |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
I think the most important in rebuilding is first getting rid of Vinny and hiring a GM that will keep Snyders' opinions, as just f-ing opinions and not decisions. It all starts there. We have the talent no doubt and I like the group of young guys you highlight as guys who can be a core. I think, and this is the first time I have said it, but we need to part with JC and Portis. We need a new offense all together and at the skill positions we need to turn these guys loose and look for some guys who can be real leaders on the offensive unit.

Especially with those WRs. Nobody there is cut out to be a number 1 or even a number 2 WR right now. Need a QB, O-Line and WRs. Orakpo needs to be moved to DE and then look for a star OLB. Blades is a backup/ST player at best. |

We're just not that talented on Offense. There are 31 teams that DO NOT want Jason Campbell as their long term starting QB, Santana Moss as their primary WR, Clinton Portis as their #1 RB or any of our Offensive Linemen. Cooley is probably the only player on Offense that other teams covet. Maybe Sellers as well, although he's getting up there in age, as is Samuels. The entire Offense needs to be re-built. |

Why are you so sure Danny Boy is hampered solely by his ego? Because he made a lot of money in industry? By that logic, Bill Gates would be a GREAT NFL owner who would win all the time. Why are you sure that Vinny will be gone next year? Recall that Vinny has survived years of 5-11 that were as brutally ugly as these first few weeks of 2009 have been - - and he is still here. Vinny is Danny Boy's racket ball opponent; Vinny enables Danny Boy's urge to meddle and to treat the team as a fantasy football team. What makes you sure Danny Boy wants him gone? The last time Vinny was gone was that horrible time when Marty Schottenheimer ran the team and wouldn't let Danny Boy do anything except sit in the owners' box. That ain't happenin' again... This is not true of every player on the roster but it is true about a whole lot of them: They are here for the payday they get from signing with Danny Boy and they don't care as much about the Burgandy and Gold as half the fans do. You think a bunch have checked out on the season; you are absolutely right. But they aren't going to leave town with any time left on their fat contracts unless they are kicked out by whomever makes the personnel decisions here - - and that would be Vinny and Danny Boy the guys who signed them in the first place. If you think I'm exaggerating in that last point, look at the games so far this year. Is Albert Haynesworth playing like a guy who is WORTH a $100M contract with $40+M guaranteed? He's not playing badly; he's actually playing well; but worth that much? Same goes for a boatload of other FAs who come in here and play just hard enough to keep their jobs. It's been happening for a while now; only Vinny and Danny Boy don't seem to notice. |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
I see no reason to get rid of or replace Campbell. No one is going to do much better in the current circumstances.
I will also add that i am also officially fed up. The Redskins are not only bad but are the least exciting team to watch. Ive fallen asleep during the last 3 games. I just dont really care anymore about this seasons. I love them, but I just dont care right now. |

Last week I spent more time on the internet ..here.. saying they would lose and the score would be 19-17, I was off by one point. ;) I just don't care either and now the Capitals are killing me and I hope the Wizards have a decent showing but atleast I can understand if they don't cause they have a new HC starting a new scheme. |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
Yes, we have mediocre talent. I'm ok w/ getting rid of some older guys as our team needs to be built thru young talented players. What did Ted Leonis say about always thinking you are a player or two away? It's not a very smart way to go about building a team. Be honest w/ yourself.
We do have some building blocks here mostly on defense. On offense, i'd like to keep Cooley and ummm, ahh, mmmm.. |

He makes good financial transactions outside of football or he'd not be able to afford to buy the Skins in the first place. When you fire the only guy who wants the job and has the respect of the team (Williams) that points to ego. When you replace Al Saunders with a QB coach, that is just stupidity. Danny may have other problems, but his ego is the most transparent. Gibbs may have many flaws, but he did leave something that could be built upon. Why tear it apart? As far as Vinny goes that's my opinion too. They pay way too much for such a bust? You'd think they'd learn their lesson. That would be the only good news for me. Everyone knew we had offensive problems but we add no offensive line men? No, I didn't think Haynesworth was worth the money, but that was a deal compared to Dockerry and Hall. Snyerato has made little effort over the last 5 years to add quality young depth on the O-line. I can definitely see the fan base getting fed up to the point that another few years of this crap, home blackouts are not out of the question. I split season tix with a neighbor until 2006, but I ignore calls from the Danny's marketing folks trying to get me to buy back in. Give us a better product, and only then will I consider giving you my hard earned money. |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
The defense is NOT set. We have some good players, but the older players have some issues with the size of Haynesworth's contract (i.e., for a part-time player). I thought the run defense was much better last year, and the pass defense looked better last year. So maybe we've regressed on defense.
The O-Line was better last year, and the Skins have to do something there pretty soon. Zorn is not the problem, but Vinny is (along with Snyder). As far as Flacco and Ryan are concerned, they went to teams with a strong running game, plus solid O-Lines. Portis looks like he's slowed down quite a bit, and he's complaining about Sellers not blocking for him? How about speeding up some, CP! |

Carolina scored its td's on a short field both times, just like we did. |

Why would you think we are set at the WR spot when they have done nothing in 2 years. You then say keep Mason & Alridge but they have done nothing and it must be something there becaseu other teams have not gone after them. TE we should be OK. How can we get a pick for JC when his contract is up and even if it wasn't we might get a 16th round for him. |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
Portis should go who is tired of seeing him pumpiing his legs and driving his shoulder in his own lineman when there is a big runing lane next to him if only he would bounce out and take the lane , but he has been doing that for years know.
I don't see it happening, at least not soon. Arrogance tends to be an incurable disease. It is too easy to blame others and usually a person is too arrogant to ever admit to themselves how arrogant they are. The arrogant usually stay arrogant until death. |
Re: Future/Rebuild/Good News?
The good news is that we do have some solid-to-good pieces to build a tam around. A few roster moves this year can get us to being a respectable team. Then build for a dynasty after that. Here's my take:
QB- Trade Campbell for a 4th/5th rounder, keep Collins & Brennan, draft a franchise QB in this year's draft dubbed "the year of the quaterback". (Bradford, Claussen or McCoy) RB- Portis (contract), drop Betts & Rock, keep Mason & Alridge, look for mid round draft talent. WR- Moss (solid, but not true #1), build around Kelly/Thomas/Mitchell, cut Randle El (any trade would be welcome but not probable). TE- Cooley & Davis (develop the latter) OL- This is the key to any future success! Keep Dockery & Rabach (not a Casey fan but needed for continuity for another year). Trade Samuels for what he may be worth (est. 3rd). Draft a G or Tin 2nd round AND possibly 3rd or 4th. Get FA lineman to fill holes. Keep Rinehart/Montgomery for depth. DL- Fine, but get rid of Daniels/Wynn/Montgomery. Bring in FA depth. Jarmon takes over LE next year. Orakpo to RE. LB- Fine but fine heir apparent to Fletcher, not HB. Wilson to SLB or get a true SAM via free agency. S- Fine. CB- Fine. May need replacement for Los. Most importantly.....proven coaching regime. |
