Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
Not that individual efforts should matter that much in a team game like football. Chris Cooley just snapped his 81 game reception streak today against the panthers dating back to September 12, 2004.
Chris Cooley Career Game Log | Pro-Football-Reference.com Out of all of our players I don't think there is any reason we shouldn't be finding Cooley on a regular basis...not for this streak but because he is a vital possesion receiver. Just on a strategic basis we should be feeding him every game. |
Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
There was a pretty good reason: Carolina wasn't letting him off the line with about two or three guys hitting him.
It's probably the best defensive gameplan against us in the last two years, and frankly, we weren't able to rely on anyone else. |

Why couldn't we take advantage of those weaknesses considering they had the worst ranked run defense in the league after Week 4? It's almost maddening to see that people can say that teams have Moss double covered, Cooley held up at the line and 8 men in the box to stop Portis. When will we be able to have a coach who can take advantage of what the defense is giving us...or at least make adjustments? |

Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
Bottom line, you have to get to your #1 play maker. I could care less about personal goals, but COOLEY HAS to be involved. And not in a blocking/Chipping role, he CAN'T BLOCK!
|
Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
Batiste had something to do with that. Not on every play, but certainly plenty of them.

It's a common link to all bad football teams. |
Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
He didn't have the opportunity to release into many patterns today. Spent most of the afternoon trying to block.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
Interesting that if Cooley catches 10 passes or no passes, the result is basically the same.

Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
Cry me a effing river that Cooley's stats get jacked.

It's not about the stats.. it's about how can you go a game without even targeting the guy? |

I think he was in the gameplan but Samuels injury changed that we already had a problem with Heyer on the right and losing our best OL member was critical. You can't do anything when defenders our in the backfield attacking your QB & RB every play you need some help and Cooley was the "HELP". |

So it's come down to our O-Line depth and we're only in Week 5 of the season... I seem to remember us suffering the same problem last year at the end of the season. We go into this offseason just maintaining our depth (Dockery for Kendall) and make no other additions. We take the luxury of signing one $40M player but don't address our depth needs on the O-Line. No matter the reason Cooley didn't get a catch today it all comes down to the lack of foresight by our front office to get people in a position for success. |

Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
all on the gameplan and playcalling, prob more the latter
campbell loves to check down early so they could've easily rolled cooley off of a block to catch something |

bring in a bigger backfield set then i'm not saying i have the answers, but the answer isn't making cooley another lineman |

Not hard to figure out what's happening here. |

Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
Like a few of you stated on the post , when Samuels went down it wrecked our entire offense. Cooley was held in to help block. Lets face blocking is not Cooley or F. Davis strengths. If they needed a blocker how about putting in Yodder or move Sellers to the TE and let him block. Just a thought because Cooley needs to be out in the patterns.

Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
Thank You Zorn. Since the screwing with the offensive play calling is not enough you have to screw with each players personal achievements.

Redskins Insider - OL Injuries Change Cooley's Role
Clarification from Washington Post Insider: "But in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Cooley went without a catch. The last time that happened: Nov. 7, 2004, at Detroit, in the middle of Cooley's rookie year. More stunning than that: Campbell didn't target Cooley on a single pass Sunday." So that probably makes it a 75ish game catch streak according to this. Still surprising that he wasn't even targeted today. |

perfect to run that little TE screen or whatever then |

Just another read that confirms what a cluster F the team is right now. |
Re: Chris Cooley Reception Streak Broken
All the dominoes starting falling down when Chris Samuels went down in the first series of plays. The decision to start Mike Williams at right guard and place Chad Rinehart on the inactive list was a part of the problem. If Chad was active, Zorn could have moved Heyer to left tackle, Williams to right tackle and Chad at right guard. A much better scenario than having Batiste at left tackle. Both of the Skins tackles were getting beat man to man and Cooley was left in for maximum protection. That takes away the Skins primary receiver. Campbell was getting bum rushed from both sides and the middle. Horrible offensive line play.

Theres a lot of things you can do. Draws, screens, quick passes. Supposedly Zorn is a pro at this, but we couldnt adapt. |
