Flu shot?

Do you get a flu shot? What about the new swine flu vaccine? Will you be getting it? Should people be forced to get one, especially those in the health care field? Talk about it.

Re: Flu shot?

I'am 45 , and never really get sick . I have never had a flu shot < maybe as a kid > ? I guess I will take my chances and let the elderly and kids get them as I think they are at greater risk ? I'am not always trusting of Washington , but if the CDC thinks we all need them , I will not bitch about it ... not that I'm an expert or MD . Hopefully we do not get a major outbreak .

Re: Flu shot?

Def NOT getting the swine flu shot. It was pushed out way too quickly, and not researched enough.

Last swine flu vaccine was handled similarly and I think quite a bit of people had adverse neurological effects. I know science is better now, but I will take my chances. I might get the regular one; i didnt last year and I didnt get sick.

No one should take the swine flu vaccine. It is one of the most dangerous vaccines ever devised. It contains an immune adjuvant called squalene (MF-59) which has been shown to cause severe autoimmune disorders such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus. This is the vaccine adjuvant that is strongly linked to the Gulf War syndrome, which killed over 10,000 soldiers and caused a 200% increase in the fatal disease ALS (Lou Gehreg disease). This virus H1N1 kills by causing a "cytokine storm," which means that it cause the body's immune system to overreact and that is why it is killing young people and is a mild disease in the elderly. (The elderly have weakened immune systems.) This vaccine is a very powerful immune stimulator and carries the real possibility of making the lethality of the virus much greater.

One's best protection is vitamin D3. One should take 5000 IU a day now and when the diseas e begins to spread increase the dose to 15,000 IU a day. Vitamin D3 modulates the immune reaction, reducing the chance of an overreaction and stimulates the body to produce what are called antimicrobial peptides, which are powerful killers of viruses that does not involve immunity. This is dose related, which means the higher the dose of vitamin D3 the better the protection. Fish oils (the best is Carlson's Norwegian lemon flavored fish oil) also reduce immune overreaction. One teaspoon a day should be sufficient. For severe symptoms, one teaspoon twice a day. Antioxidants of various kinds also help. This includes quercetin, curcumin, grapeseed extract, vitamin C and natural vitamin E. A good multivitamin/mineral such as Extend Core ( Vitamin Research Products <http://www.vrp.com/> ) is also essential.

Feel free to spread this around. People need to know how to protect themselves.

I have never had a Flu shot and a far as I know have never had the Flu. Now my 3 yr. old daughter is now in a pre school thing two days a week so we did get her the regular Flu shot but not the swine flu one. Like posted above I have heard and read stuff that some people can have an adverse reaction and decided it was not worth the risk. Actually the swin flu is not a shot and I think you snort it.

I am pretty sure it is a shot lol. I have seen pictures of it being given.

I have taken the regular flu shot a couple of times.

I'll be getting the regular flu shot, but staying away from the h1n1. After reading that article below I'm gonna check my multivitamins (GNC MegaMen Sport) and see how much D3 they contain.

Very sad story about one of our own cheerleaders, and what happened to her after receiving a flu shot. I just came across it this morning... I live up in Cecil County, MD, so I'm not sure if there was any attention of this down in Ashburn, but it looks to have been run on a local news station.

Re: Flu shot?

Getting the flu shot is a crap shoot anyways. There are so many different strands of it every year and that one flu shot will protect you against that one strand of flu. I think as long as you eat a healthy diet and exercise on a regular basis, that probably is the best defense.

GhettoDogAllStars 10-26-2009 11:05 AM

Re: Flu shot?

No way in hell should people be forced to get a vaccine! This is f'ing America for crying out loud! I seriously hope this isn't being considered. If somebody came to my house to force drugs into me, I'd probably shoot them.

I don't want a flu vaccine. Never got one, and never wanted one. I'd rather have the flu -- no joke.

Now, I'm not going to say I'm a healthy person -- I smoke tobacco and also umm... other tar-producing plants. I eat salty, unhealthy food. My diet is heavy in animal protein. I drink at least 2 cups of coffee per day. I sit at a desk all day for work (usually 10+ hours).

However, I like to be active outdoors, when I can. My favorite "active" outdoor activities are hiking, rock climbing and snowboarding. My longest hike was 22 miles. Other hikes are usually in the range of 5 - 15 miles. I probably go on about 5 - 10 hikes a year. I go snowboarding almost every weekend during the winter (20-30 days last year). I help my buddy cut down trees and split wood maybe once a month. I am 6'1", and I weigh 160 pounds. I am 27 years old. I haven't been to the doctor in over 10 years, and I don't take any pharmaceuticals, except for the occasional aspirin (maybe 2 per year).

So, I'd say my level of activity is somewhere between sedentary and moderate, along with a terrible diet. So far, it's been about 5 years since I got sick with anything. Like I said, I don't consider myself healthy -- just lucky I guess.

I guess the point of this post is just to say that we truly don't fully understand health.

Well we decided to get our daughter the swine flu shot. We called her doctor no go, my wife called her doctor no go, I called my doctor no go. So the wife calls the free clinic and they have it and its free. So she walks in and turns around and walks right out. It makes no sense we can get it free faster then trying to pay for it.

Get one my wife walked into the free clinic and turn right back around and left. She said the place was filled with a bunch of sick nasty looking people stacked all on each other and she figured they had a better chance of catching it there then they did if they just walked.

Re: Flu shot?

I got the seasonal flu shot at work. It's free and I've never had an issue or known anyone who has. Still haven't gotten the H1N1 for myself.

My pregnant wife and youngest child both qualified for the free H1N1 shots given by Fairfax County. They went in last Saturday and had no line. She said it was really well-run and that they probably were over-staffed. My brother is a doctor and we trust his opinion on whether or not to get the H1N1 shots. He said go for it.

Yea right. Our doctors who have the people who actually work and pay for the services cannot get enough of the shots from the ones who hand it out THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT. While the people who don't pay into the system and use the FREE Health services get a larger supply. Sounds backwards to me.

It is you who has it backwards. Seems to me if the government (the people) pays for the production of the vaccine there is no reason to let private practice doctors get it first and have them charge the public for it again. They are more than welcome to do business with the pharmaceutical companies that produce them to get some.

Wanna know something that might be humorous to some??

The new Wal-Mart out here on Rt. 50 was giving away flu vaccines. Going there yesterday for some car stuff, i saw a sign that said they were not giving vaccines due to a staff flu outbreak....thinking back i should have snapped a few pics with my phone....

Well last time I checked I pay taxes and I'm sure that the others that go to my doctor pay taxes also. You don't think the people giving the FREE shot don't get paid? I'm sure some donate time and do it free but I'm guessing most get paid. My doctor is no different and should charge the $29.00 to administer the shot and should get equal treatment when they are passing it out.
