The Vick Factor
Do you think the skins should take a chance on Vick he has been released officially.
I for one would do it. I would sign him at a low cost and sit him on the bench behind Jason. Great insurance policy if Campbell decides not to stay with us we have a probowl caliber player and he would bring so much to the offense. |
Re: The Vick Factor
no. but CP is a fan of MV, and CP knows DS, so DS may push to get MV. Don't know what JZ or VC think though. So
If CP >JC +VC then MV else NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: The Vick Factor
I would. I know some people will say no because of the dog fighting stuff but seriously the man went took his punishment now it's time to move on. I'm looking at him as a football player, so I say yes.

I am not worried about the dog-fighting - as you said he did his time now move on. But I don't want him here as a player. We have a QB, we have a WR/QB in ARE, and we have RBs so, what position does he fill here? He may go somewhere else and shine, and that would be great, but he would not do much to improve us, that i can see. |
Re: The Vick Factor
The dog fighting thing isn't the only issue here. Does no one remember him flipping off fans? How about the Ron Mexico incident? Or the failed drug test? This guy is a cancer and that doesn't take into account the dog fighting thing (which I detest with every fiber of my being).
So, in other words, F... NO! |
Re: The Vick Factor
He's far from a Pacman or a TO. As for whether he fits or not... this team would be the ideal situation for him. We sign him, he sits behind Jason, learns under Zorn a QB specialist. At the end of the year if JC leaves or get hurt we have Vick waiting to fill the spot. His speed at QB has to be accounted for. The combination of Moss, Portis, Cooley, ARE, Davis, Kelly, and Thomas would give nightmares to try and stop.
|
Re: The Vick Factor
As much as I hate to say it, I would like to see Vick in the B and G.

You may hate TO but he is not a criminal, Pacman and Vick are in that league all by themselves. Don't lump TO with them. |

^ Sorry I miss read your post. I posted before I finished my first cup of coffee, posting rule number one broken. =)

Re: The Vick Factor
I would take a chance on Vick. Even though I'm a dog owner, I think he's paid his debt to society and he'll get a second chance to play in the NFL.... just not with us.

So, in other words, F... NO!
Flipping off fans that probably said some pretty harsh things, we all go to games so we know how "entitled" we as fans feel we are to say what we want because we bought a ticket. I can't excuse it but I can understand it. We don't think about the fact that this man probably was called every thing in the book and he's supposed to take that every week, so one day he flipped off a guy. It's not like in his press conference he said F you to the fans. Ron Mexico, oh you mean when he used a fake name to get medicine ? Cancel that one. Failed drug test ? For what weed ? Laughable. Cancer ? I think that is going just a bit too far. I swear fans use that word too quickly. |
Re: The Vick Factor
YESSSS don't worry you will get torched for writing this thread but I support it 100%. He is a phenomanal athlete and I would love to see him as a skin. It would be a steal because you could get him for so cheap

So, in other words, F... NO!
I never remember Vick failing any drug test. I do know a guy who lives down the street from him and his wife was saying that they have had a ton of traffic in their neighbor hood from all the media hanging out infront of his home. |

Agreed! Rule No.#1. Never pick him in FFB! But mheisig had this to say a while ago over in this thread: http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/21350-vick-sentenced-to-23-months-prison.html "23 months actually doesn't sound that bad. I have a feeling he'll be back at some point." I think the months in prison will affect MV's game, although Riggo did not seem affected after his time away from the game years ago. But playing RB is different than playing QB. |

This is a violation of the conditions of his release while awaiting sentencing in federal court for his felony conviction. As a result, U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson ordered Vick confined to his Hampton, Virginia home[45] between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. with electronic monitoring until his court hearing date in December. But why was he flipping off fans, because his play on the field was crud and worth getting called every name in the book. Please let him go somewhere else.

But as to the Ron Mexico thing, I was referring to the Lawsuit that was brought about because he knowingly gave a chick an STD. She listed it as his alias. And the failed drug test isn't about weed. Its about failing ANY drug test while your out on bail. Is he really that dumb?

Re: The Vick Factor
Would love to see him here. Watched him live in highschool, followed him in college and enjoyed watching him in the pros. However i dont see how he would fit in our system and Zorn has pretty much gone on record saying he wouldn't even consider the wildcat offense.
While i don't believe in dogfighting we all know he was used as an example and has certainly paid his dues. Tempted to go drive by his house, idk feel like a stalker haha. |
Re: The Vick Factor
The one thing I feel fans are neglecting to see is that he went to jail, all his past friends jumped ship on him and the effect that will have on him as a person. My initial thoughts are that he is probrally more spiritual than before and is surrounded by a stronger cirlce of people. 3 years ago Vick was the most athletic player in the league and one of three faces for the NFL. People make mistakes, and we would be picking him up to play football and win games, not run for public office.
Last year everyone said that Hall was such a douche but all he seemed to do for the skins was make plays and keep his mouth shut. Randy Moss had trouble before going to the Patriots, so did Corey Dillion. This is a no brainer from a football standpoint, from a revenue standpoint, talent standpoint and a publicity standpoint. I never remember Vick ever calling out his teamates or throwing them under the bus. |
Re: The Vick Factor
It would make sense if he went somewhere where they could use him in the wild cat formation, we don't even run that so I don't see where he would even fit here.

Re: The Vick Factor
i do not want him. really, where would he fit in? and everyone is in agreement that he would be a public relations nightmare
|
Re: The Vick Factor
As they say in show biz, "good talk or bad talk atleast they're talking about you." If he starts winning games trust me the bad press will go away fast.
Since when has Vick only been seen as a wildcat only player? he was in the league making plays before that offense started being used. Think from a GM's standpoint, not a fan. Worst case scenario was just added a guy with tremendous talent that could be traded for picks or players in the future. If Jeff George can still get phone calls about playing for teams I'm sure Mike Vick has some value! 3 years is a long time true; however 2 of those years saw no wear or tear from the riggors of the NFL. |
Re: The Vick Factor
Since when has Vick only been seen as a wildcat only player?
Until he gets his feet back under him as a QB the wildcat is probably the best way to get him back on the field right away. What other way is he going to be used this year, especially here? |

I would want him to back up Jason, learn the offense under Zorn ( a known QB Guru), and when the season is finished if Jason leaves or gets hurt we have a suitable, if not better replacement. |
Re: The Vick Factor
If Michael Vick was a Steve Young caliber player, then I'd say sure why not. However, while his feet can dance, he's an average to below average QB (75.7 QB Rating, best season being 2002, or 7 long years ago). He's been away from the game for 2 years, and if he reinstated right away, he'd be able to return to the field half way through the preseason, meaning he would have missed crucial training camp time to even be considered as a reserve QB.
While I'm all for him getting a 2nd chance in the NFL since he's done his time, he's not worth the headache. |
Re: The Vick Factor
A team that takes Vick better be ready for loads and loads of backlash. Including losing fans, protests on game day, etc. I don't think Snyder would be willing to go through that because unlike most bad publicity, this one could truly hurt the team.
That said, I think Vick a) gets suspended for more games by the league when it's over. b) Did something terrible. He made a conscious decision to break a dog's back... over his knee. That's disgusting to me, and I have a hard time forgetting that. It wasn't just dog fighting, then killing the animals when they're of no use to him anymore, he took time and fun to torture these poor animals to death. He's a piece of shit, and if he were on the Redskins, I may have to seriously consider abstaining from the Redskins till he was no longer a part of the team. |
Re: The Vick Factor
I would definitely take a chance on Mike Vick. I don't care about his past, I believe he learned a lot from this incident. (That's clearly not based on an interview, I'm just assuming) But I believe Vick is going to be a good player in the league again, maybe not great, but a good one and I'd take a chance on him
|
Re: The Vick Factor
He's definitely a PR nightmare. I think it's going to take a desperate team or a very strong one (Patriots) to take that on.
I don't think the Skins are even in the conversation for Vick. |
Re: The Vick Factor
F no!

Re: The Vick Factor
He isn't a good QB, bad completion percentage and a lot of INTs.

That is pretty sick, and I don't think the kind of person that does that is capable of "changing" in a couple years. Maybe he won't kill dogs but it still shows he has a sick mind. |
Re: The Vick Factor
Yeah hoo. He did that, hung dogs, tortured dogs, electrocuted dogs, etc. This wasn't just the gambling aspect to him, he shouldn't be allowed back in the NFL. If a lawyer did this, they would be disbarred. If a police officer did this he wouldn't ever get another job in law enforcement. Mike Vick doesn't deserve another chance, in my opinion.

I'm with you, F-Vick. The AFL, CFL and Semi-Pro teams need players too. He'd never play in the NFL again if I'm commish. |
Re: The Vick Factor
I think PETA understand that he went to jail and served his time. He may in order to counteract any negative backlash become a spokesperson or a supporter with cash to PETA

Re: The Vick Factor
There are places where Vick would fit in next year as a backup QB. I think the exaustive list goes Indianapolis, New England, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Chicago, New Orleans, or the NY Giants. That's 25% of the league that could find a positive use for Mike Vick. All of those teams have one thing in common, established, franchise type QBs, or at least the perception that they have one.
If he goes anywhere else, said team is probably taking him for the wrong reasons. |

No its not agreed he would be a public relations nightmare, he grew up in redskins country and would greatly embraced. The question really is how he would fit in. |
