Sheldon Brown wants out

Not only is this news relevant to us, it hopefully also is a nice distraction from the interminable Sanchez speculations.

He wanted out last year too and no one would give the eagles what they were asking for him.

Don't care he ain't coming here and the draft is coming up so who cares he won't be traded unless it's a package in the draft

Is it me or is there more player on the market this year then ever before?

Maybe the Eagles offer Brown and their 1st for Boldin.

I actually think that last year they approached the cardinals with a package including Brown for Boldin but the cardinals declined.

Wasn't that Lito Sheppard?

Yes, you are right.. However, Cardinals may be willing to deal Boldin for Brown and 1st rd.. Since Brown is better than Sheppard..

Re: Sheldon Brown wants out

Like someone mentioned in another thread, Boldin has had trouble staying healthy over the past couple years plus is unhappy with his contract so maybe they ship him out this year. Otherwise they'll go through this crap the next two years.
With two first round picks, the Cardinals could replace Boldin with a guy like Nicks or Britt maybe even Harvin (I think he'd be a good compliment to Fitz., especially in that pass-happy offense) and draft a offensive lineman.

Some pretty strong comments from Brown

His comment about the Eagles trading for Jason Peters is a good one

This just furthers my brilliant idea to only give one year contracts. You play well you get rewarded, play bad you get squat. I'm still working on the part where everyone switches teams every year but im sure ill figure it out.

Yeah, what is it about the Philly secondary? Everyone wants out except for B.Dawk, who gets pushed out. I suppose Samuels' huge contract made everyone else green with envy.

Two years ago they had some fine corners in Brown and Sheppard. Now Sheppard and maybe Brown are gone.

I do like the idea of one-year contracts. However, how 'bout teams let players go when they don't want to be in that team anymore? I mean when teams don't want a player, they straight up cut them (Jason Taylor, Marcus Washington, etc., etc.). I don't know why fans make such a big deal when the likes of Chad Johnson or Anquan Boldin ask to be traded. People say "oh, it's all about the money". However, they don't say that it is "all about the money" when they cut a player (like when the team cut Washington). Neither the teams nor the players honor their respective contracts, and it should just stop.

You have to admit that most player trade or contract problems are solely based on money. While of course there are exceptions but in Boldin's case he wants to leave a Superbowl team cuz of money. While Chad Johnson is a mixture of both. Where i see teams make their move more based on performance. Ive yet to hear a team has refused a players guaranteed money based on performance, but only off the field issues.

If the players want more flexibility, stop asking the agents for 10 year deals.

I understand your point and in many ways agree with you. But the thing is that the players, like everyone else, want some job security to protect their families. A long-term contract helps to ensure that you will be able to look out for your loved ones now and into the future.

Re: Sheldon Brown wants out

These "ten year deals" are simply ways to stroke the egos of the players and to give agents something to use to get new players to sign up with them.

The vast majority of long term NFL deals with huge balloon payments in the last two years are not honored. The player becomes a "cap casualty" - - and it happens way more often than not.

It isn't a matter of honoring the contract because the "ten year contract" is in reality a sequence of ten "one year contracts". The reality is that players love the ego boost they get when it is announced that Joe Flabeetz signed an 8-year deal worth $100M. But if he is going to get $20M in year 7 and $25M in year 8, he will probably never see a dime of that money. but it sounds better than a 6 year deal worth $55M.

Agents love these kind of "balloon deals" too because it allows them to turn to other players and say, "I can get you a nine-figure contract..."

Teams don't mind because they know from the start that they aren't going to pony up all of that money unless they REALLY want to in the final years.
