DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
From the Las Vegas Review Journal, via ESPN 980's Sports Reporters:
Spotted....at N9NE Steakhouse (Palms) on Saturday: [Hugh] Hefner, celebrating his 83rd birthday with girlfriends Karissa and Kristina Shannon and Crystal Harris and "Girls Next Door" Kendra (with her NFL boyfriend Hank Baskett) and Bridget, Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts, and Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder with star running back Clinton Portis. :pimp: |
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Didn't know they were THAT buddy buddy.. wonder if they shared a room too
|
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
I guess my dreams of drafting a new RB are out the window. CP will probably be our RB coach one day.
|
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Anybody else not entirely comfortable with this?
|
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
I was more jealous than uncomfortable. DS and Portis weren't embarassing the team. Obviously, this isn't the a party that Zorn is going to be at, but I imagine other high profile names were there. And it was a "respectable" event.

Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Snyder made his money in PR & marketing, yet he doesn't speak to the press much & he's rarely seen outside of Skins games, w/the exception of dinners at mortons w/free agents.
So I think he's more than aware of the publicity aspect. What I don't like about it is it seems another example of how CP is above the coach. Snyder seems to be promoting CP's career inside & outside of football, trying to make him like Riggo was. I seriously wonder if CP's large no. of carries are the direct result of DS telling Zorn to run him more. YOu re-sign Betts but then never give him more than 2-3 carries, even when CP is banged up? I think Snyder wanted CP to lead the league in rushing. |
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Personally I doubt Danny gets involved when it comes to coaching decisions.
|
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
I don't see what the huge deal is that they were both in Las Vegas. They were probably in Las Vegas that weekend because of the Country Music Awards which Dan Snyder owns (I think they took place April 5th) and Clinton Portis attended last year and said he was a fan of and wanted to return.

Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
DS needs to have good relationships with his players, but has to keep them at "arm's length". It's one thing to have dinner with a player and his family, it's another to be spotted at a Playboy party "with" a player. DS needs to grow up, put on his big-boy pants and realize his actions speak volumes to the coaching staff and players. This type of behavior IMO enables Portis and his rants in the media.
On the one hand DS can talk about how bad he wants a SB trophy, but he's unwilling to make all the sacrifices necessary to get one; including checking his ego, stop the stupid "stargazing", and stop undermining the FO and coaching staff. Unacceptable. DS needs to get a keyring or something and keep it with him at all times with a "WWJG" on it. Whenever he's about to do something stupid he needs to pull it out and think...What Would Joe Gibbs do? Gibbs wouldn't be at a Playboy party and he certainly wouldn't be there with a player. |

I don't know one way or the other, but when CP was unhappy & called Zorn a "genius" the next thing we hear was that CP met w/Snyder, then Snyder & Zorn talked. At the least, Snyder's coddling of Portis puts Zorn in an awkward position. It sounded like Zorn was unhappy w/CP, but then had to retract some of his statements about him missing practice after CP mouthed off on J. Thompson's show & then went to DS. Snyder might not "meddle" the way some have accused him, but he definitely wants to market his team a certain way, as that is his business expertise. Seems that he's given Portis disproportionate of $ & personal leeway in the process. Does that mean he's telling Zorn to give CP 25 carries & Betts only a few each game? I don't know, but I bet DS loved the sound of hearing "the NFL's leading rusher, Clinton Portis" when the team was on a roll in the first half of 08. |

Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
I agree with Sammy and Freddy. From a business side, his relationship with Portis is detrimental. Everyone knows that Portis is his "guy" including Portis. And that's where problems with authority come in to play.

Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
When is the draft again?
On a related note, Snyder likes football and to party at the Playboy mansion. Say what you say about the guy, he's alright with me (I'd be doing the same thing if I had his money). |
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Darrell Green, Bruce Smith, and Clinton Portis are all Hall of Fame (or potential HoF) players and all have taken generous advantage of their open door policy with Snyder.
But this happens all over the league really. |
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
How does anyone know why either DS or CP where at the party. Just maybe they both know the same person who invited them and they just happen to be hanging out. It seem everyone here assums that DS invited CP to go with him which might not even be the case. Even if it is the case big deal and lucky Portis.

Vast difference. My wife and I have had dinner with the CEO of my company. However I've never attended a Playboy party or gone to a strip club with my CEO. Having dinner with a player can still be seen as a semi-business setting, when you move into the other environment you're letting the player closer and on a more personal level than IMO any player should be with an owner. |
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
It's really no secret Clinton is Snyder's boy. Clinton basically does what he wants, and it's also not a secret that it's not popular with a lot of players. He's a diva. A huge ego. But he's not a bad dude and he's a great player. It's not like he's a TO or an Ocho Cinco. Plus he never gets in any off field trouble. So you deal with it I guess.

Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Where is all this hanging out at the Playboy Mansion, with strippers, etc. talk coming from? They were at a steakhouse. Plus it doesn't specify that he was even with Hefner. Just that they were both at the same place.

Ooops. I wasn't paying attention. Maybe Mredskins was right about my reading comprehension. :) Edited my post. |

The tone of the first post was they were at a birthday dinner/party for Hef at N9NE. If that wasn't the case, and they just happened to meet up in Vegas and have dinner so be it. But if they were specifically hanging out in Vegas together on a play-date, DS is getting too chummy with CP (as usual). The comment about strip clubs was to illustrate the point of difference between dinner and other activities in response to GisG. |

If I was the owner of the Redskins, I would probably be hanging out with CP too. That dude would probably have me laughing everywhere we went.

Yeah I don't really care even if they were invited by the Hef and crew, even if it was the mansion, a lot of high profile people have gone there. |

I'm with you on this one. The whole owner+player partying crosses some unspoken boundary. |
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Don't hate on ballers doing baller things. Who wouldn't take part in a Playboy party? Hell, if I had to take my mother as my date I would.

Honestly if I were a popular professional athlete I wouldn't go there. I mean why??? You're going to hang out with a bunch of free loading leatches who use an old man for fame and a free place to stay?? Sorry but those type of women do nothing for me. I'd much rather go somewhere low key where there are at least some professional people. And I'm certainly not going to hang out with an 82 year old man. |
Re: DS and Portis party with the playmates in vegas!
Come on now! You mean to tell me that if you were invited to the Playboy Mansion, that you would turn it down? PLEASE!!!
I would allow them to take photos of me wearing high heels and a skirt while cooking eggs if I were given an invite. |
