Re: Mangenious is a Brown
Seems like a solid hire, but do they have a GM in place yet?
|
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
I don't think so, weren't they the ones going after Pioli?

Dan pobably advised it was not necessary to wait |
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
I still can't believe he named his newborn son after Favre (well, his middle name anyway). It seemed convenient mid-season when Favre looked good and the Jets were 8-3. What's he going to tell him when he gets older? I named you after a selfish old QB who only came to my team to spite the Packers, threw 22INTs during the season in which you were born, totally wet the bed down the stretch, and his lousy play may have cost your dad his first head coaching job... ooops.
Good luck in Cleveland, Cangini. |
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
Is this really a radical improvement over Crennel?
By the way, anyone else heard the rumor that Crennel might actually be his defensive coordinator |
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
I had heard that Crennel was open to the idea of staying on as a DC. Actually, I read his statement to that effect but don't know where.
If Crennel stays with Mangini, seems to me Crennel cuts all ties with Belicheck and his club of coaches. I don't imagine Bill is the most forgiving of men. |

Re: Mangenious is a Brown
For the same reason, I bet they can cut Pioli off their GM list 'casue he has probably crossed them off his list. I heard they were looking for someone out of Baltimore.
Hmmmm, haven't they had this receipe? Coach from the Belicheck tree and GM from the Baltimore front office?? |
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
I heard things were looking good for Pioli in KC. Any news on that?
|
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
Seems like a stupid hire. Here you have the worst offense in the NFL. Is EM going to fix it? Is he going to groom Brady Quinn? I just don't understand some of these owners. Here you've got Shanahan sitting out there...why wasn't Lerner on the phone with this guy? You've got a young QB...just makes no sense.

It's his, if he wants it |

They put him on their short-list of candidates and tried to interview him but he basically wasn't interested. He's not coaching this year, what with JJ in Dallas prepared to offer him the world in 2010. |

For the reasons you state, a guy like Josh McDaniels (who incidentally could be replacing Shanahan in Denver) makes more sense. Even a Mariucci could have made sense. But it seems like the Browns decided a long, long time ago that Mangini was their guy no matter what. |
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
Have any coaches from the Bill Belicheat tree have been successful? Other than Mangenius' first year, I'm not sure.

Re: Mangenious is a Brown
What about the Rooney Rule, did they interview a minority?

Mel Tucker, the defensive coordinator. |

Good luck in Cleveland, Cangini.[/quote] There will be plenty of times when the boy will drive him crazy and it will fit just fine. :spank: |
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
You guys think they'll trade Anderson or Quinn this off-season, or neither? My guess is they'll try to dump off Anderson for some mid round pick. Probably try to trade KWII as well.

I think they'll dump Anderson, but not too sure about KWII. I thought he was the lone bright spark on the team because he was the only one hanging onto the ball. Stallworth was always injured, and Edwards had a bad case of the dropsies, plus J.Lewis is getting older. I think KWII stays |
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
KWII is a major pain in the ass, I wouldn't be surprised to see them dump him.

Re: Mangenious is a Brown
i cant figure out why these teams keep recycling these old retreads. that's part of the reason i like the skins choice of Zorn. Mangini obviously got fired for a reason
|
Re: Mangenious is a Brown
dmek25:
Hard to call Mangini an "old retread". Unless I calculated incorrectly, he is the second youngest coach in the NFL - only Tomlin (Pitts) is younger. Mangini had two winning seasons out of three with the Jets. It's been a while since Browns' teams have won two out of three seasons. Who was the last Redskins' coach to leave town with more winning seasons than losing seasons on his plate? I believe that would be Gibbs 1.0... Having said that, I think the Browns jumped the gun on this hiring because there was no groundswell of interest in Mangini anywhere else in the NFL so why they didn't hold off until they had a GM under contract to be sure that the GM and Mangini were "simpatico" is a mystery to me. |
