Betts, James, and Horn

been nosing around and have some little tidbits to throw around. heard a rumor about a possible trade with the ravens. Ladell Betts for Ed Reed, with a draft pick thrown in. Erasmus James will play the second half in this weeks game against Carolina. and Joe Horn was released today. any thoughts? sorry no links, because im not computer savvy enough

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

If this is a joke it's a bad one. Why would the Ravens trade Reed?

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

i heard that on the radio yesterday. Doc Walker briefly mentioned it. like i said, briefly, with nothing behind it

Been nosing around.....where did you hear that rumor? First I've heard of any of this and don't believe a word of it.

I don't see LB or ER going anywhere. Joe Horn was released, who cares.

On a positive note if James is playing, which I would not doubt...but this is the first I've heard of that. That would be nice to see him get some action if he's ready.....

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

read that James would start the second half, on the skins website

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

Betts and a draft pick for Reed? Um, er, huh? I'd believe that just as soon as I believe Reed for Betts and a dozen draft picks.

I don't doubt Horn could be released. Atlanta is clearly building through youth, a trait Horn does not possess.

I have mixed feelings about EJ playing against Carolina. I would hate to rush him if he's not ready further risking aggravation to his knees. However, if he says he's a go and the trainers say he's a go then I'm a little psyched to see if the 1st round potential is still there.

Just caught that, but thanks.

-- JAMES TO PLAY

Erasmus James is expected to play in this Saturday's preseason game against Carolina.
James has continued to increase his practice workload. He is coming off knee ligament surgery last December when he was with the Minnesota Vikings.
"He will play some, probably not until the second half," Greg Blache said. "You will see him get some snaps."
James is battling for a backup job on the Redskins' roster. He is competing with second-year player Chris Wilson and rookie Rob Jackson to be the fourth defensive end.
James is a former first-round draft pick of the Vikings. He has five career sacks.

Nosing around. Is that slang for snorting coke? Man I need to get back on the streets. Anyway rumor doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The Ravens have McGahee and they invested a 2nd rounder in Rice, who they seem to like a lot. Betts is also close to the wrong side of 30. Unless that draft pick is a first I doubt the Ravens would even consider.

I wouldn't trade for Ed Reed. Sorry. He's still a beast...when's he healthy. But the guy can't stay healthy. I wouldn't do it.

Damn dirtbag...I thought you where already on the streets..?

I think it has a little something to do with drugs or someone was on drugs, kinda like the rumor thing.....

Anyway, now that you mentioned it line me up.....:cool-smil

Who are the Ravens going to get to replace Ed Reed? Jim Leonhard? Haruki Nakamura? I don't think so.

I hear we were going to trade Vinny Cerrato for a box of chinstraps and a cheerleader to be named later. I say do it!

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

No way I would even trade Betts for Ed Reed straight up. That's crazy talk! Who the hell is Ed Reed anyways.

This rumor is the result of someone mixing a big bag of weed with some industrial strength bathroom cleaners as well as a large scoop of mescaline.

SmootSmack 08-19-2008 11:16 PM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

Good that James is going to play some, I hear that he's been impressive in practice

Not even jsarno cares about Joe Horn being released

I believe Betts restructured his contract last month, but I don't know if that makes him more or less tradeable

I know that the Redskins have some concerns about Landry's ability to start game 1 due to his nagging hamstring injury (wouldn't surprise me if Springs got the start there week 1, especially if Rogers is ready to start again)

That said, Ed Reed is questionable for the season opener (if not longer) as well with a shoulder injury so that doesn't solve that problem

We should, if we insist on trading for a Ravens safety, go after Dawan Landry. How cool would that be?

memphisskin 08-19-2008 11:18 PM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

Reasons Ozzie Newsome would trade Ed Reed for Ladell Betts:

1. Vinny Cerrato agreed to throw in a half pound of boat, Mystics season tickets, and a guest spot in MI IV
2. He's trying to frame Ray Lewis for murder rather than extend his contract
3. Ozzie saw that the warranty on McGahee's knee expired in '07

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

No way.

We'll need Betts this year. Zorn is planning on using Portis AND Betts together in the backfield and also Betts is great on pass plays (receiving, not blocking). He's an important piece to the offense.

Of course, Rock DOES look great at RB, as does Mason, but we do not have a need for old man Reed.

trade rock for that 6th round we gave up for jason taylor! keep mason!

I would be surprised if we got anything for Rock. Remember, he was a FA and thought he would get an opportunity somewhere else but ended up back with the Skins.

I would rather trade Betts and get a mid-round pick.

doughtydoubter 08-26-2008 12:54 PM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

im with you. i would give up either one. I just think that we need fresh legs back there.
How about trading for depth? is there anyone interesting being released today yet?

Soup's Uncle 08-26-2008 12:56 PM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

I'd trade Ladell for Ed Reed. Can you imagine Ed Reed and Landry as our Safetys? That'd almost be as much firepower as Landry and Sean Taylor.

JoeRedskin 08-26-2008 12:57 PM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

What the hell, lets just cut a bunch of people and sign a bunch of other people. I mean come on, Rock and Betts are both over 25 - get rid of those dinosaurs. Churn that roster!

doughtydoubter 08-26-2008 01:01 PM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

lets be realistic. Rock is a team leader, but unspectacular the 70 yd run was the greatest he has had aside from his one td run as a return man. Hes not devin hester, hes solid but not dynamic, hes also older.
Betts, im happy with he is a good compliment, but i gurantee, will be kicking ourselves is mason goes to another team.

I'd like to trade this thread to ES. I'll take anything in return.

MTK 08-26-2008 01:23 PM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

Enough with the trade talk. Trades are rare enough as it is and they typically don't involve 2nd or 3rd string RBs.

doughtydoubter 08-26-2008 01:38 PM

You are right Matty, trades are rare and i dont think another is happening this season.
I still would like to watch the waiver wire tho for some help on the defense :-)

Why would we want Joe Horn? He is old and he is not all that tall. We need a tall receiver.

With Thomas, Kelly, and possibly McMullen I think we can finally put to rest this claim for the need for a "tall WR".

And for the record Horn is 6-1, not really a short WR either.

very stupid thread. If i had something better to do than salivate for the opener...id do it....
I dont really think there is any move to be made..unless the higher ups decide to trade one of the rbs for a late late late pick in order to keep mason...thats really the only feasable trade i can see..and its very unlikely

Ruhskins 08-27-2008 09:32 AM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

Agreed, I don't think the team should be making any moves this late in the preseason unless it is really necessary.

Agreed. This thread is idiotic though. Because it's not going to happen and why trade for a injured player. If he was healthy I would do it in a heart beat. But taken they have Rice this is not going to happen.

I can't believe I get my thread locked for discussing the inconsistencies of the D-line and this thread is still open..lol

laughable..

I think Erasmus was a good addition to this team and it is a very smart move especially seeing what could possibly have happened if Taylor was out for more time that he will be. I think he will step up. If Rob Jackson plays well this last preseaons game it will be a hard call to put himon the practice squad.

An issue that needs to be address is the play of Doughty and also adding some depth at linebacker.

MTK 08-27-2008 10:10 AM

Re: Betts, James, and Horn

If you find a thread worthless the best thing to do is not respond to it. It will eventually slide it's way down and disappear. Continously posting about how crappy it is just keeps it in front of everyone's face.
