Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
Other than the obvious Redskin football 2008 is about to start...Yee Ha!
This is an exciting time of the year to see if the team is progressing and picking up the new offense Coach Zorn is installing early on. As it appears we will be seeing quite a few starters for at least a few drives on both sides of the ball tonight. I hope this is Jason's year to take the next step, he will be the key to our success on offense. He has to make the Zorn transition, be a leader, make smart decisions and take control of this offense. I hope we see a small taste of that tonight. I don't see any drop off in defense, if anything I see our Redskins being improved. If Greg plays the talent he has at there strengths, keeps it simple, and we can stay healthy I see a great season for the D. Then we get to see some of the young talent & even a few vets that are close, fighting for a spot. That to me is always fun to watch, the competition at many positions is very close, who steps up. This roster will have to be cut down before you can blink an eye. Lets hope for a good showing for a drive or two from our starters tonight. And a little more progression every pre-season game, this is one year (Never thought I'd say this) I'm glad we have 5 pre-season games to work on the system, this could be a big benefit for the team. Of course we can only pray for the injury bug not to bite. Lineup for tonight:Washington Redskins Your thoughts on the game and the longer pre-season? |

I cant wait. I can finally watch Redskins football again.
Sweet football. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
I would like to see this game as more of a Training Camp competition imo. A lot of promising rookies that need to be seen with real game experience.

This is for sure the most stoked I've been for a preseason game ever! I want a W baby!

Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
First and foremost, I want to see an injury-free night of football. Last time we played in the Hall of Fame game, we saw Jon Jansen get hurt and placed on IR. Tonight, I don't want to see anything like that, especially seeing that Stephon Heyer will be playing in place of Chris Samuels. Granted, Dwight Freeney isn't playing, but I'm still not happy with the fact that Heyer will be protecting the blindside of our team's linchpin.

Yeah, I agree with that whole heartedly. No injuries>winning the game |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
I am so interested to see the Redskins run a WCO. If it's done well it is an absolute handful to deal with.

Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
I just want us to play well tonight and no Skins to get hurt!!!

I really wanna see us win too...just because of how the weekend went so far...i'm assuming hte crowd is going to be all Redskins fans, so it should be fun.

Although I always want our team to win, especially after this HUGE REDSKIN weekend, that would be a bonus! But,that is the least of my thoughts. I would like our first team to look fairly sharp, even though it's early. Of course no injuries is primary. And I'll be paying close attention to some of the up and coming talent that has a chance to make the team. But no worries Gmanc, we will have more points on the board than the colts do at the end of the 4th quarter! :) |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
could care less about this game, or any preseason game. Spurrier ruined preseason games for me for life.
I just hope no one important gets hurt. Other than that, I look forward to our first real game of the season. |

I liked the first drive and the way Campbell played while he was in the game

Colt's looking good so far!
|
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
offense looks like it's on track... QBs/run game nailing it.
horton looks like he might be a nice find too, and zorn still hasn't shown me anything to make me think he's not going to be a good head coach... we'll see though. |

Yup. While everyone has focused on Horton, Jackson, and Brennan, the story of the day is JC. He looked very sharp, even if he played in just 2 series. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
Game over, my thoughts:
Art Monk: What an amazing person he is! Who's is number 48?? We need to make him Skin forever.. awesome play out there tonight. Mason – Trade Betts and keep this dude! JC - I was happy.. good times. Keep it up. Collins - bad times.. Colt Brennen - OMG!! Love this kid. Can we make him our second QB please??? Doughty - ... not so good dude! Pick it up! Overall.. I was so very proud to be a Skins’ fan this weekend. I mean WOW! What a great weekend for the Skins! |

Other than that, I look forward to our first real game of the season.
Depth is a very important factor for us right now, so it was nice to see guys like Horton, Mason, Brennan, K.Campbell, and others play well. Of course my biggest concern is the health of the starters, but I always love evaluating depth. And it is Redskins football too, regardless of the lack of star power in the game tonight. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
Yes, this was a fun game. I was very impressed with the first line JC & Co. looked good and in control, no confusion. The first line D that started also looked OK. And no injuries, mission accomplished!
A few notable surprises Colt looked nice for the first time seeing him a think he only had one incompletion (Rating 157 or so?). Mason and Rock both played well. Brooks had a solid performance, for his first outing. Horton was solid, a couple sacks and was flying around out there, could be something to him? Overall I really enjoyed the game, really strong for a HOF game and we treat the new Coach to his first win and some tape to look at! Bottom line good game we got a taste of our revised offense, and no one got injured! Great night of Redskin football. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
I thought we looked pretty good for our first preseason game. But I can't understand why we have our LB's lined up so far off of the ball. I mean there is just such a big gap and that's really the reason why they gained so many yards on us. Colt and Campbell looked good. Horton too, and the starting O-Line. That was a fun game to watch and I can't wait for Buffalo.
ALL THE WAY! Hail To The Redskins! |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
i like the way the offense moved the ball.

Doughty - ... not so good dude! Pick it up! Overall.. I was so very proud to be a Skins’ fan this weekend. I mean WOW! What a great weekend for the Skins!
As a Doughty appologist I just wanted tore post this to prevent the whole fanbase from jumping back on the Doughty sucks bandwagon, not that they ever got off lol. ROFL I r find films less then 3. <3 NFL Video Galleries - Jim Sorgi Highlights 1st Play: Campbell was assigned to cover Clark. Doughty got in on the tackle 2nd Play: Doughty lays the wood but the Reciever still makes the catch. Doughty appologist are sad and happy at the same time. Actually I wish we could get an end zone view of this play because I think that Sorgi might have thown it to an area the LB's were suppose to be covering. Of course I'm not sure so I'll just stick with my original statement for now. 3rd Play: Quick Flat route by Clark. I didn't really see where Doughty lined up in the highlight but if I remember right he was about 10 yards back. and he still made the tackle. 4th Play: Rob Jackson gets a sack 5th Play: Robinson is being covered by Sinclair. Doughty is playing a deep zone so Sinclair is lucky that Doughty helped him out after Sinclair bit on play action. 6th Play: Ok, this the Doughty "wiff" play. Doughty had decent coverage but overpursued. Not really much to explain here. And thats the last play. Anyway as we can see Doughty didn't do nearly as bad as people think. If anything I'd be worried about the play of the linebackers and I'm pretty sure the coaches are going to get on the linebackers about the first drive on Tuesday. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
Overall: Yay!
The best part is Jay-Z is unbeaten as an NFL Head Coach. 23-0 in 2008? Ok, I'll calm down eventually. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
if sean was in there instead of doughty though, we would have seen 6 tackles for losses and a forced fumble :P
we're not used to seeing average safeties on the field. and his lack of natural speed is going to ensure he'll never be amazing, but he can still be a decent player. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
My fiancee was impressed with Jason...Jason Taylor that is.
I step into the kitchen to grab a beer, I return and I hear "Why didn't you tell me Jason Taylor was on the Redskins?" "Um...I didn't think you cared" "I mean that's great he's on the Redskins now" "Yeah, we'll see. I have high hopes with him and Carter bookending (is that a word?) the defensive line. The knock on Taylor is how many years of football does he have left." (I say all this as I'm trying to figure out why I'm having this discussion with someone who admittedly couldn't care less about football) "Oh my God! He's so hot. Wow. I mean, he's smoking. He's really really hot. Jason Taylor, wow he's really really hot" and there you go |

Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
The good:
1 JC looked decisive and accurate. 2 limited penalties 3 no injuries 4 organized. Lack of confusion 5 younger talent is looking much better than in years past 6 colt brennan looked good Concerns 1 our o line starters looked vulnerable at times to their backup pass rush 2 muffing punts 3 todd collins may be an overpaid system backup qb. Maybe not, as its just training camp, but I was saying all last year there's probably a reason a guy plays for ten years and never starts. Some of you guys were ready to trade campbell for a sixth round pick. 4 the eerie fear of the spurrier era possibly repeating itself. We looked really good in preseason then, as well. |

Doughty was fine last night, I actually focused on him quite a bit and he was always in the right spots and he hustles. That hit he had was pretty nice too. Nothing to see here, move along.

Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
Besides the good outings of a number of players, it looks like the players REALLY like playing for Zorn. Maybe i'm jumping to conclusions, but it looks like they want to have some fun this year. Anyone else get that feeling?
You are always going to get player-speak when they talk about their coach, but it actually looks like they like Zorn and his relaxed attitude. This year could be a special year if we can get some wins early. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
I can't find a name but there was a player out there on defense in the fourth quarter with the number 46. I don't know if anyone else did, but I freaked out and ran to my nearest computer to check and see if we still had Betts! lol.

Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
Liked how the offense moved the ball. Liked how Mason played and could fight for the 3rd RB spot (not that I don't like Cartwright). Liked how calm and collected Brennan seemed to be.
Would like to see the next 2 games, but if we can assume play from last night, I'm not too concerned about depth for this ball club. Seems that we do have several kids ready to try and step up for spots on this team. Oh, and my wife was in the bathroom getting ready for bed during the 2nd Half Jason Taylor interview. She came out after it was done and asked if it was him. I said yes, and then had to rewind to the beginning of the interview so she could watch it...I just laughed then hit Live TV during the next commercial break. |
Re: Skins vs. Colts tonight, what are your thoughts about our first pre-season game of 2008
Random Thoughts:
1. Steve Spurrier won his first pre-season game like 35 -7 (remember Mariucci complaining that he ran up the score?) and Matthews, Wuerfell, Rosenfels, et al looked like HOFers. I'm not sayong Zorn is Spurrier, but it is just pre-season. Just a reminder, not trying to be Deborah Downer. 2. I was encouraged by the fact that there were very few mental flubs (false starts, lining up in the wrong place, not knowing who was on the PAT team, etc.) Zorn seems to have everyone mentally prepared. 3. I am not encouraged by our run defense. And Jason Taylor looks more like a swimmer than a lineman to me. You can dominate every other aspect of the game and it will avail you nothing if you can't stop the run. It is the most critical element to sucess in the NFL, IMO. 4. Fred Davis will find his way very quickly on to the field. 5. I promised myself that I wouldn't spend the next ten years saying "Taylor would have made that play" or "Sean would not have been beaten like that", but I'm afraid there is no avoiding it. 6. I think Trey Wingo gave a shout out to one of or mods on ESPN yesterday, while showing a clip of Smoot dropping that pickle from Sorgi, but I could be wrong. 7. I prefer WRs who are into Jesus to those that are into making hip hop music. That is all. |
