Kimbo slice makes network debut
Anyone else catch the fight last night? Kimbo is a bad man.

He Popped a Mans Ear....
I didnt even think that was possible |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I thought that fight was pretty ugly. I enjoy Kimbos youtube fights, but I think he still has a ways to go. As soon as he faces some real competition I think he'll be in trouble. From what I've been reading online today, theres a lot of bad reviews of the whole broadcast last night.

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Yea I watched it last night. But the other heavy weight first of all had what looked like a cauliflower growing out of his ear before the fight had ever begun I thought kimbo was going to send that thing flying outta the ring.
Secondly, Kimbo wasn't such a bad man on the mat, he was lucky to make it out of the second round, he was getting his ass handed to him. When the bushel of cauliflower busted early in the third it was the best thing that ever happened to kimbo. Yea, he rocked the cauli kid in stand up brawling...but if kimbo went back to the mat I think it would have been all she wrote. On a side note probably the best fight of the night was the two chicks, now that was a scrap! The girl that lost the bout due to TKO all of a sudden (it creeped up on me) looked like she had been in a BAD car accident, which happened to come from her opponents feet and fast hard punches. I also remember when her father came up in the ring after the fight they said he was an ex-NFL QB. Overall other than the one fight I thought was stopped early, due to the finger to eye. They should have IMO gave the guy the 5 minutes to regroup and get his sight back, he did not want the fight to end/stop. And it was a title bout. But the both got winner prize money and a rematch will happen, that was also a hell of a fight. All 5 MMA fights where pretty good and on regular network TV live free of charge, pretty good deal. |

Gina Carano could probably kick most of our asses

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
i love the ufc. this is just the minor leagues. anyone have a pic of the 2 women that were fighting? someone at work told me the one was pretty hot. but kimbo is an Internet legend
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Kimbo is a joke. He can punch and is tough but maybe the top 50 heavy weights in the ufc/wec/pride would destroy him in one round.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Fight getting very bad reviews, maybe rigged...? Me personally, I didn't think so.

I'm kind of glad I missed her fight because I'd probably fear her now if I had seen it.

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I caught this the other night, and if I didn't know any better (which I really don't), I'd say that the night was pre-determined for the most part.
The first 2 fights were quick and dirty, and evidence of very little trauma led to stoppages. Carano is not only hot, but she can lay the smack down. You could tell she was a bit rusty early, but then like a light switch, she turned on and just plain beat down her opponent. The Lawler/Stone fight was a BS stoppage. They should have given him the full 5 minutes to get himself back. Just glad it wasn't beyond the 3rd, at which time they would have gone to the scorecard. Even with the stoppage, this was the fight of the night by far. Kimbo should dump MMA and go into Butterbean's arena and be the next King of the 4 Round fights. He is nowhere near ready for a match that lasts beyond 2 minutes, and he needs to really get Bas Rutten on his ass and learn some ground skills. As soon as James Thompson got him on the mat, Kimbo had no idea of what to do. If he fights anyone with any gumption, he's going to get his ass handed to him. My wife called it, saying Thompson's ear would explode, and that's how Kimbo would win. Kimbo is a striker, and a damn good one, but he can't really do anything else. If he had stuck to striking, he probably would have taken care of Thompson in the first, but it looked like he was trying to prove too much. The best part of the broadcast was the fact that they started off the main card with blood all over the mat from previous matches. |

i hate the floor stuff... it's just bad. if ufc could ditch that, it'd be SOOO much easier to watch and enjoy.

I also agree about his stamina. When he lost that one fight to that cop from Boston it was because the guy simply wore him out. If Kimbo can't knock someone out, he's not going to win. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I think Kimbo would have a difficult shot against any of the dominant strikers in any of the main leagues. He just isn't that quick. A guy like Liddell, who Kimbo would outweigh by a good 30 lbs, wouldn't even let Kimbo near him and I am guessing any of the decent heavyweights laugh at him. The guy can punch. He has serious power and punches through people. You can see it in any of his fights but he is just so one dimensional.
It sorta makes me mad that this was the crap that was introduced to the country. It certainly painted a better picture than a "human cock fight" but it simply wasn't as big league and entertaining as UFC or WEC can be. I am so tired of the elitist donkeys, who've never watched a sanctioned Pride or UFC fight, talk about how awful MMA is. The sport is anything but savage and a hell of a lot safer than boxing. |

Gannon's face so destroyed in that fight. I have no idea how the guy could even gather himself to do anything in that fight. |

If you guys are interested, one of my good friends helps run a site called BloodyKnux.com. They cover boxing, MMA, kickboxing, etc., and he has posted several audio clips with fighters he's interviewed. I don't usually read too much over there, but it's been around for a few years and has a loyal following.

i find the ground game to be the "art" of mixed martial arts, you have to watch guys who are trained to counter moves to appreciate it like moving from half or side guard to a full mount and how the guy on the bottom needs to keep a knee up to stop the other from re-positioning himself in a better way, etc. in pride i have seen some amazing reversals and escapes. a guy is literrally getting the life chocked out of him in a rear naked choke, your saying to yourself this is over then out of nowhere thru the fighters last conscious thought he escapes . . . ive seen royce gracie in an arm bar refuse to tap out and the guy breaks his arm and gracie keeps on fighting. if it was all standup it would be kickboxing. lawler is the only guy with any cred in elite x and his best days are past him. |

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
I just read this morning Kimbo Slice will fight Ken Shamrock in an upcoming fight. I wish Shamrock would just submit him and end the Kimbo craze, but Ken is 44 years old so if hes not in shape hes gonna get pummeled. Thoughts?
Shamrock is washed up.
I wish they would put Kimbo up against some real competition.
Yeah, same here. They don't want to risk seeing him get beat, putting and end to their cash cow. As long as Kimbo keeps winning the buzz will continue. And buzz = $ in the fighting world. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Agreed. Shamrock doesn't have a chance in hell against Kimbo. He hasn't won a fight in over 4 years, and lost his last fight earlier this year in the 1st round to a jab. While he says he's in the best shape of his life, Father Time is certainly catching up to him. One quick throw and Kimbo will knock Shamrock on his ass.
Don't get me wrong...I'd love to see Kimbo get his ass handed to him, but I don't think Shamrock has a chance in hell to do so. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
i don't like Shamrock, but i think you guys might be under estimating him alittle. Kimbo has exactly zero ground skills, and Shamrock is a career M.M.A guy. it wouldnt surprise me , unless the fix is in. because as you guys have said, Kimbo = money
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Will Shamrock be able to get him to the ground though? I think Kimbo could knock him out cold with a good shot or two.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
My doubt in Shamrock lies in that his last 5 losses have all been by strikes or punches in the 1st round. And while Shamrock would have a huge advantage if he gets Kimbo on the mat, I just don't see it happening.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
i don't like MMA (once they get on the ground it gets retarded for me), but i watched kimbo's first match, so he does get outside interest...
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
They Kimbo/Shamrock fight was just called due to Shamrock getting a cut above his eye. What a bunch of crap! No link as of yet, but I just watched it on CBS.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Well Kimbo just got his ass handled by an average fighter who is basically not even in his weight class.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Shamrock might have actually killed Kimbo.
|
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
Scam rock is a retard! Kimbo is way out of his league, as proven tonight in around 15 seconds!

Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
This was the last thing EliteXC wanted... Even with Shamrock's injury, there was no way they'd have let Kimbo have the night off on a CBS telecast, so they figured they throw him a bone. Too bad the bone had actual MMA experience and backfired on them. Kimbo's got a long way to go to make it in MMA. Imagine if he fought someone like Anderson Silva...
The UFC wouldn't have made the headliner fight if his opponent was injured on fight day (I've seen a week or two, but never the same day)... EliteXC is an inferior product, so they figured they had to make the risk by making Kimbo fight an unknown opponent on a few hours notice. Bad mistake. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
That's the vibe I got too...Shamrock screwed them, and for Kimbo to earn his paycheck, he had to fight...and Kimbo wasn't too happy to be doing so. Not a knock on Petruzelli, but he got 1 lucky shot on Kimbo's eye and the ref stopped the match too early. It looked like as the ref stopped, Kimbo was recovering and getting ready to throw Petruzelli across the ring. But it is what it is. Kimbo was proved to be a 1 skill donkey out there by losing like he did.
I don't think Shamrock would have stood a chance again Kimbo. Too old, too slow and too distracted by the presence of Tito Ortiz at ringside...well that last one is a stretch, but there is no way Shamrock comes at Kimbo like Petruzelli did. Nice to see Arlovski dominate again. He's a guy I'd like to see fight and flat out whip Kimbo. Paul Daley looked decent until Jake Shields put him in an armbar. I'm not too impressed wtih Jake Shields... But yes, EliteXC is a completely inferior product to UFC...however, Elite made the big jump to broadcast TV, and that in the long run will help them secure talent and money. |

It wasn't even a big shot that took Kimbo down, that's what's so lame about it.

Agreed on Arlovski... the dude was unstoppable in the UFC- then when he had his knee injury, his career started to take a nosedive. I can't believe he lost to Silvia twice! Agreed on Shields too- the dude's a paper champ who didn't beat someone to take their belt. If Daley had a better guard, he'd have owned him. It was definitely smart to bring EliteXC to network- they were lucky to have an in already with several events on Showtime (which is owned by CBS). The one thing that seems shaky with the UFC is supposedly Dana White's contract negotiations with his older fighters (hence the drama with the guys who go over to Elite or the new Affliction). Once someone gets any good, White signs them over to UFC once their initial fight contract ends with Elite. On the flip side, once someone gets a little too old in the UFC, White tends to shortchange them and they move on. It looks like Gina Carano may be carrying the Elite flag for the time being (she's a freakin' beast... a hot one too!). The Lawler-Villasenor fight should be really good in a few weeks. I'm waiting for Mark Cuban's HDNet fights to gain some momentum. If anyone's got the money to steal White's fighters, he can. |
Re: Kimbo slice makes network debut
i don't know if i agree with the age thing. he keeps letting Coulture( sp?) come back. and Lldell isn't a spring chicken. it seemed like when Arlovski finally won the belt, he got very timid. don't know if that was due to injury, or not. but i cant get enough of the M.M.A :)
