Dexter Manley is dumb as a rock.

Fairly long interview with EITM.

He might be, but I am not going to pick on him.

Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

I don't know if anyone was listening in the Richmond area this morning, but if you can tune into XL 102. They are tearing Dexter a new one. "Was your proudest moment when you realized you didn't sell you Super Bowl ring for drugs?". "You remember Joe Gibbs, but you don't remember going to jail?". Wow.......

That's pretty shitty. Leave the guy alone.

Re: Dexter Manly Interview on XL102 FM.

Was it the same Elliott in the Morning interview that Daseal referred to in another thread? I haven't heard the interview but I heard that Dexter wasn't all there (hope he's not relapsing) and Elliott took full advantage of the situation.

hagams 03-26-2008 10:06 AM

Re: Dexter Manly Interview on XL102 FM.

Not saying he took advantage of him, but he wore him out pretty good. It was so bad that I had to turn it down. I didn't know that it was a repeat though, so my bad for the duplicate thread.

Re: Dexter Manly Interview on XL102 FM.

Sounds like the EITM interview. Go listen to it, Elliott turned a bit vicious towards the end -- but Dexter got pretty pissy.

The guy is calling an interview he did with a big Houston paper "heresay"

Check the locker room if you want to hear the entire interview.

I think it's funny we talk about how shitty it is to make fun of Manley, but let the Michael Irvin jokes run rampant? I'm fine for dogging on both, or not at all (I vote both!)

You assume the two are similarly situated. One is a former Cowboy and another is a Redskin legend. It is perfectly fine to poke fun at a former Cowboy. It is wrong to poke fun at a Redskin legend.

In all seriousness, I did not hear the interview, but it sound pretty lame to me. I seriously doubt the host would talk trash to Dexter in private. That he becomes some tough guy while on the air is pretty pathetic.

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

Heh, EITM wanted to talk to him because Dexter said his proudest moment was not selling his super bowl rings for crack. He wanted to talk to Dexter about that and he was very curious how he got through college, you know -- not being able to read. It escalated, Dexter got agitated -- so eitm got more vicious. It's something I think you have to listen to.

Last time I checked we're Redskins fans, right?

It's our duty to rag on the Cowboys at any opportunity and to "protect our own".

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

EITM was, IMO, trying to pick a fight from the get-go. EITM started chuckling about Dexter being confused about March Madness. Nothing too egregious, but he was clearly asking questions that were going to ruffle some feathers.

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

On the John Riggins show Dexter said he didn't know what an upset was -- he was getting clarification if Dexter was that dumb or just having a bad day.

IMO, EITM was laughing at Dexter's intelligence. Granted, Dexter is not the sharpest tool in the shed. But, unless Elliott is himself an idiot and didn't realize that kind of questioning would annoy Dexter, Elliott is an ass.

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

God that's hard to listen too. Dexter has never been to sharp. I'm guessing he's got some serious mental problems and/or back on drugs. Hope that's not the case.

Elliot probably should have just let it go. Damn, hard to listen too. I feel bad for him.

Let's remember that he also underwent serious brain surgery a few years ago and suffers from memory loss because of it.

Either way you look at it I don't think it's cool to make fun of Dexter, dude's had a rough life.

I agree. The guy has been thru alot. Not too cool to take him to task when he's obviously not in his right mind.

A close friend of mine was talking to Dexter at a football camp and gave me a little insight to his addiction.

He said that he never touched cocaine in highschool, or even college... but the second he went down K street.... his life hit addiction.

Found that kind of interesting.

BTW..... pretty shitty interview.

Elliot is usually funny, but really lacked class during this interview. Pretty much just picking on the guy... but I guess that's Elliot.

Thank you. It's pretty obvious Elliot was looking for a fight. Let's see, Elliot talked about Dexter's problems figuring out the brackets, crack, and illiteracy. Granted, Dexter has publicly talked about all of those issues. That said, it seemed clear to me that Elliot was trying to elicit laughs at Dexter's expense.

Daseal 03-26-2008 06:41 PM

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

If Manley can't handle questions about how you get through college without reading, simple facts about his life, or about what an upset is -- don't go on a radio program. Simple as that, Elliot asked a lot of questions I was curious about (IE, how did you get through college without being able to read).

He's been through a lot sure, but lots of people have. You don't find it strange that an NFL football player doesnt know what an upset is? Crack and illiteracy are two things Dexter talks about the most now days -- mainly how it made him find Jesus, but still staples on what he talks about.

Elliot typically does pick at his guests a bit, but as someone sick of hearing interviews where people get softball question and you never hear anything you're interested in, it's refreshing. I keep hearing poor Dexter, but if you can't handle interviews -- stay off the radio.

Yea, he was one of the greatest pass rushers in Redskins history and you all are talking about him being dumb, why don't one of you try to go on TV and get interviewed I know I'd be nervous and I'd probably be pretty nervous, so what if he's not a genious he was a Redskin and that's better than anything you could be.

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

Elliot could have asked the questions he wanted without insulting the man. I don't think the questions bothered me as much as his approach.

It's one thing to ask legitimate questions and play around with him a bit, but its a totally different thing to exploit someones handicap. The guy had brain surgery, and wasn't the brightest person in the world to begin with. Then when Elliot started yelling at him...I don't know... Just seemed to me a bit like he crossed the line on this one.

Elliot? Crossing the line? no way! this is the guy who almost got booted off the air for playing unedited Disturbed. Dexter should have known better than to go on his show. Yeah, he is funny sometimes but he is just waaaaaay too stupid for me to have ever listened to.

Right... Let me clarify a bit.

I don't think this is out of character for Elliot at all... and for the most part, I enjoy his abrasive style. There are times, however, that I think he crosses the line. The Dexter manly interview I thought was one of them.

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

Whoever the woman was who came on in the end as Dexter's assistant, should have come on in the beginning of that interview and issued the same ananology. That was a typical example of something that should have been left undone. I wasn't impressed in the least.

Re: Dexter Manley Interview on XL102 FM.

Regardless of his flaws, I love Dexter Manley. I love what he did for the Redskins and cannot speak to his private life. Football players are entertainers and he was a great one. I have so many great memories of him in during our 80's legacy...knocking Danny White out of the '82 NFC Championship game...can anyone say HOGEBOOM! ...watching the steam fly off Dexter's head in the frigid Chicago Divisional playoff game from the '87 season...what a great Redskin. A man with flaws but I also have many so I will not judge.
