Favorite Super Bowl 08 Commercials

The first commercial of the night: The Bud Light commercial where the guy was breathing fire was pretty good.

I also really enjoyed the Sobe Lifewater Commercial with the rendition of Thriller.

3rd favorite so far was the Pepsi Max Commercial with everyone falling asleep.

I can tell you what I didn't like: The Salesgenie commercials. It seemed so stereotypically racist. Like they were aiming for how Dave Chappelle can make fun of different races and have it NOT be racist? Their commercials looked like a terrible attempt. With the Middle Eastern dude with the typical Middle Eastern accent and then the Asian ones with the Panda Bears. It just had me uncomfortable through the commercials.

Its not even the end of the game yet and I'm wondering when they are going to bust out with the Old-time Black cartoon characters saying, "Oh Lordy, Lordy, I need to get mes some salesgenie".

The bridgestone commercial with the animals all screaming was a riot. That's my favorite thus far by a wide margin.

Not Applicable. What a dismal year for commercials.

The Doritos commercial with the rat busting through the wall to beat the crap out of the uppity guy and take his 'ritos.

Nothing beats the Bud Light commercial last year with the fist bump. Classic.

Overall, definitely not impressive. I loved that bridgestone commercial though. (apparently I am the only one)

Gotta agree with Drave on this one, those sales genie commercials were overtly racist. My fav was Sobe dancing lizards. Hot chick + Dancing Lizards = Gold, Jerry, it's gold!

the commercials werent very good this year... attribute that to the writers strike...

I loved the one with Shaq riding the horse, especially because it had a slow motion shot of a little kid with flaming red hair and freckles picking his nose.
Seeing a ginger kid digging for gold might be one of the funniest things a man can witness, IMO.

PS- DRave, you hit the nail on the head and I believe you're in the early running for post of the year.

Will Ferrell (aka Jackie Moon)'s Semi-Pro/Bud Light commercial was pretty funny I thought

Bud Light...suck one

I think it's gotten to the point where Ad Agencies aren't putting out the efforts they once were, and that expectations are higher than ever when it comes to commercials.

The Doritos one with the mouse coming through the wall was the best I thought. The Shaq one sucked, except for the perfect rendition of AMD at the race track (digging for gold).

Diet Pepsi Max one was decent. The Budweiser Clydesdale (Hank) one was good. So was the Bud Light "wine and cheese" one. And the Toyota one where all the people are racing Big Wheels was good.

The Coke one with Stewie, Underdog and Charlie Brown was my wife's favorite.

One of the quotes from the Jackie Moon/Bud Light commercial is currently my IM away message: "A lot of sweat goes into every bottle. Not literally, that would be gross, but you know what I mean."

I really liked that one too. I was waiting for Lucy to come outta nowhere and take the coke away from Chuck at the end though.

I liked that one for the surprise factor, and it was funny the way the guy in the rat suit started punching the guy, but I don't think it would be that funny the second time I saw it. Overall, pretty horrible year for commercials.

As to the SalesGenie commercials. I have no idea what they were about, but there was a piece on Sunday Morning discussing SB Commercials and apparently the owner of the company wrote those spots himself. Last year they apparently had a really awful commercial and it generated enough traffic that he thought it would be worth it to run another awful commercial. I don't quite get the logic, unless it was the idea that it would be so bad that it would make you remember the name even if it was because you hated/were offended by the ad. I guess the idea is that a strong emotion, even if negative, is better than no emotion to a mediocre commercial.

Anything by Victoria's Secret.

Oh and the Will Ferell one was funny too.

I think there's been a pretty serious public backlash in recent years with respect to the halftime show and the ads. After the whole Janet Jackson boob thing everything has seemed a lot tamer. I would've let my two year old watch this year's halftime show, and I don't really recall anything that would stir up much in the way of FCC complaints as far as the ads go.

The whole production seemed to get edgier and edgier every year, and now it seems a lot tamer and family friendly.

I hated the halftime show. Everyone got all crazy just because of a stupid boob. Granted it was awful timing but it's a boob for crying out loud!

I bet they'll whip out Simon and Garfunkle for the halftime show next year and play "Sounds of Silence". At least everyone will have a nice 30 minute nap.

For anyone who didn't see the salesgenie commercial (This one is for the Asian pandas), here's a link to it from a gossip website. (Yeah I know a lot of my links are from gossip sites. I'm a girl. Give me a break. :))

Ingenious. A commercial that rebuts all SB Commercials. Plus the high life commercials are funny anyways...that one was great.

Rather than start a new thread 09 Begins here.

I liked the Troy Polamalu Coke Zero commercial which is a parody of the Mean Joe Greene one.

All in all though, I think that they are just getting worse and worse every year.

I want to see the movies that are coming out. Star Trek, GI Joe, and Tranformers. What can I say? I'm a nerd. Those were the best. I did like Troy's commercial. The one where they daydreamed about punching the animals (by Monster?, some job agency) was good too.

Now that you mention comercials I can't really rember any of them. Thats either because I had been up sense 4am and fishing all day or the burbon talking. Probably a little of both.

Overall I thought the commercials were pretty weak this year. I'll agree with Angry that the remake of the Mean Joe Green Coke commercial with Polamalu was pretty solid.

First of all, this deserves its own thread!

I actually liked many of the commercials this year. Bridgestone did well, the career builder.com one gave me a chuckle, snow globe wasn't bad.

i thought they were much better this year. i liked the one where they kept punching the kuallabear(sp) also the doritoes one where the guy gets run over by a bus at the end of it.
