Lavar's speech
I heard that he said some things that made it sound like he was regretting burning his bridges with the Skins. Anyone know what he said? Could he be trying to redeem himself and try a comeback with the Skins?

His knee is shot. There's no way he'll ever come back to football. If he does, he'll wind up in a wheelchair. If he was the Lavar of old, I'd be all for it! |
Re: Lavar's speech
I think it was just looking back on his mistakes in general. It's the old adage of "youth being wasted on the young."
BTW Looking at him today during the funeral I'd think that he might be able to spot play end. Dude is looking thicker than before and lower body strength and speed isn't as necessary for an end as it is for a LB. |
Re: Lavar's speech
I thought Lavar gave a great speech. It brought a tear to my eye. He was a great Redskin during his time here. I for one would welcome him back with open arms. I still like the guy.
|
Re: Lavar's speech
Is there any way that Lavar could come back for league minimum specifically for special teams? Or is his knee just flat out done? He and Champ Bailey basically gave us reasons to watch for a couple years, Redskins fans should never forget that.
|
Re: Lavar's speech
I have never been a Lavar Arrington fan, but his speech was really touching today.
|
Re: Lavar's speech
Basically, in the past, when he went from one thing to another (like leaving the skins, I inferred), he wouldn't look back, wouldn't day goodbye.
But he realized that you need to not leave things unsaid.

You need to say good bye.

You need to tell the people that mean a lot to you that you love them.

You never know when you won't get the chance.

You will regret that for the rest of your life.
It was touching and could've have been written by Keats, or Yeats, but it was right out of LaVar's heart. Well done. young man. Well Done. J-Dawg. |
Re: Lavar's speech
His speech was one of the few parts of the funeral I saw. I was touched. He said, "when Sean came to the Redskins I kind of thought I was his guardian angel." Then he teared up and said, "turns out, Sean is my guardian angel." Wow. Great speech LaVar.
As far as him playing again, his knee was shot before the Giants signed him, then he ruptured his achilles, and then he REALLY messed his leg up in that motorcycle accident. He's done as far as playing is concerned. He made tens of millions in the NFL and is a smart, well spoken guy. If I was LaVar I'd chill with my NFL riches and work as an analyst and broadcaster. He can still be around the game. |
Re: Lavar's speech
He poured his heart out and it brought a tear to my eye. He was kind of in that same image as Taylor as being a true Redskins and a flat out baller. Hearing him talking, I missed him being in a Skins uniform. This whole process has really brought back some memories and brought a lot of people closer.

Exactly!! This tragedy has made this franchise a family, this is why is so important for Gibbs to return. Once the pain and grieving passes, this team can do some especial things when healthy next year. They can come inspired and motivated with a lot to prove. |
Re: Lavar's speech
i really think after hearing that speech that lavar wished he had stayed a redskin. don't know if im reading into it or not
|
Re: Lavar's speech
I liked what Levar had to say.
Tell friends/family how much they mean to you. I took a whack and didn't die [only good die young] so live life living for today and telling folks what they mean to mean. Jackie's sister said some of the best stuff. wow RIP ST #21 mike |
Re: Lavar's speech
On a side note, anyone watching the MNF game??? The Ravens are looking great. I can't believe this. Ray, Willis, and Ed Reed all having big games. They dedicated their effort tonight to Sean. It would be amazing if they ended the Pats streak in memory of #21.

That's what I've been thinking but did not want to post till it's over. |

So close, that timeout on 4th down.... Unbelievable!! |
Re: Lavar's speech
La Var is a stand-up guy. its a shame that he had to burn all his bridges in Washington and have his career basically implode on him. I had always pictured him being in burgundy and gold for his entire career and I was mad when things ended up the way they did and having to watch one of my favorite players playing for the....Giants?
|
Re: Lavar's speech
It's a shame LaVar didn't have Gregg Williams as his D-coordinator when he first came in the league. He would have been a monster. I always thought that he had too much speed to waste him at Strong side LB. He played his entire Penn State career as a weakside LB and never got that chance here.
As for his speech today, it was straight from the heart and brought a tear to the eye. |
Re: Lavar's speech
For a man as young as he is he didn't look like he was moving that well. That knee must be hurting him. I wish LA had not been hurt and had been the great Redskin player he could have been.
|
Re: Lavar's speech
I've gotten over what Lavar did to us and moved on, and I really think his playing days are over. I'd like to see him up in the booth for us though, he could be a great announcer. As for his speech, it was really good, and I'm glad he did it, because he probably redeemed himself in a lot of our fans' eyes.

Re: Lavar's speech
Lavar was a good guy, and a team player. I kinda wish things would have went differently for him. I just heard his speech on ESPN, and wow....really heart-felt.
|
Re: Lavar's speech
i caught the speech yestreday evening and I was moved by his emotion for Sean. I have a ton of respect for LaVar (as all of you know) I am one of his biggest supporters. In an article I read it pointed out that during his speech when he addressed "his teammates" he looked over at the Redskin organization that was there, not the Giants contingent that flew in. In LaVars heart I think he still feels like a part of the Redskins family and wants to be part of it again in some way shape or form. I think he did an awesome job yesterday.
|
Re: Lavar's speech
I wish things could have worked out differently for LaVar here. He seemed to be reaching out and calling a truce with his speech yesterday.

There's no question he's still a part of this community and wants to be. He's on Comcast now, and as you pointed out, he looked in their direction yesterday to let them know, let by gones be by gones. He's a good dude. I just think he got caught in the unfortunate middle of the business side of life in the NFL. |
Re: Lavar's speech
I grew up with LaVar being my favorite player. I'm from PA and go to a couple PSU games a year. It was so fun seeing him lay out RB's in college. Then that transferred over into the NFL. I was upset when I saw the Redskins got rid of him. And then when he gave that speech, I broke down. I had to finish listening to it, even though I was going to be a few minutes late to class. I wanted to hear what he had to say. It'd be nice if he came back, maybe not as a player, but as a coaching assistant. He could help put the team into the mental state that they have to be in. He's a great leader, as I saw at PSU.

He's a good dude. I just think he got caught in the unfortunate middle of the business side of life in the NFL.
That and perhaps a clashing of egos with the coaches. Either way, I agree he's still a part of the Redskins family and I think overall the fans still have a special place for him in their hearts. I have three #56 jerseys and I still wear them proudly. |
Re: Lavar's speech
By the way, is that way you say "by gones be by gones"..... I didn't check. LOL

Re: Lavar's speech
I just saw Drew Rosenhauses speech and I have to say that was the fakest speech I've ever seen. While watching it I couldn't help but think that the guy was using the oppurtunity to show his "sensitive side" in an effort to gain more high profile clients. I think if you watch his speech about midway through it he saw that his crying was a little over the top and he ended up bringing it down a notch.

I knew someone was bound to bring this up. Personally I think he was for real. He may be a jerk but I don't doubt that he was upset. He's pretty close with his 'U' guys. |
Re: Lavar's speech
I know he's a jerk and I don't like the way he does business, but I think that was just him trying to honor Taylor the best way he knew how. He came off to me as trying too hard but give him a break, trying to make a speech for someone of Taylor's popularity isn't exactly an easy task.

Re: Lavar's speech
I cant believe people are still thinking about him becoming a redskin again, dude is terrible. he may have given a good speech but dont get all crazy now, he sucks at football.

Are you serious?!?! Did you ever see his stats for the 2002 and 2001 year. 99 tackles in '01, 3 INTs, 1 TD. 95 tackles in '02, 11 sacks, 1 TD. |

No. I can't really say he was the best running back...but his best years were between '98 and '01. |

I fixed my post, but my point remains the same, five seasons will have past since 2002. You can't compare LaVar in '02 to him now. |

I'm not saying you can. But Marshall Faulk isn't a terrible football player. I'm sure there aren't a lot of people that would say that...so you can't say that about LaVar either. |
