I Climbed a Mountain [pics]
I love looking at photos, and I thought some of you guys might too. So, I would like to share with you photos from my latest hiking trip.
Over the weekend, I climbed Long's Peak with a friend of mine. Long's Peak is a mountain on the Continental Divide, in the Front Range. It is 14,255 feet tall, and the elevation gain from the beginning of the hike, to the peak, is almost 1 mile (5,100'). It is a class 3 hike, and 14 miles round-trip. Use the following link to see the photos: Long's Peak Photos (there are also some photos in a different album from another 14er I climbed) |

dude that looks like so much fun! I love when you have such an awesome weekend that on Monday when you go back to work you feel sad that the weekend is over or at least sadier then normal.

Re: I Climbed a Mountain [pics]
I climbed another mountain over the weekend: Crestone Needle. It is located on the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, in the San Isabel National Forest. Check out the photos:

What's the stats on the mountain?
What's the stats on the mountain?
Crestone Needle sits on the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and is 14,197 feet high. The standard route is a class 3, and the elevation gain and distance vary depending on where you begin hiking. There is 2WD access to the mountain, however, there is a 5 mile jeep trail that begins where that ends. The jeep trail is supposedly one of the roughest in the state of Colorado, and it gets a little worse every year. There are big rocks, trees, pockets, mud and 3 creeks to cross. It took us almost 2 hours to drive up it, and it steadily gets worse all the way up. From the end of the jeep trail, the total elevation gain to the peak is about 3,300 feet, and the distance is about 9 miles round-trip. |

Man, I miss Colorado so much! Thanks for sharing the pics. I climbed Holy Cross, Longs,
Massive, Ida (not a 14er, but still), Elbert & Pikes Peak (3 times). Never took a single picture...seriously. |

eglin afb, florida ;) and yeah, the best clouds in the world are right over biloxi MS/gulfport (which is where keesler's at)... i'm about 4 hours away and the weather is almost exactly the same here (100% humidity at 2am... hot dam!). i wish they allowed me to take pictures at work though :/ like when we had a C-5 (HUGE plane) land missing it's front two wheels... (you gotta figure they had them when they took off). work just stopped so everyone could get right on the runway and watch the thing land/possibly explode at 300ft away. pilot's aced it though, and it just looked like a very normal short landing, but man, that would have been a crazy pic. |

You're right about the clouds/sunset, but I'll take the sun rising over Pike's Peak every morning outside my kitchen window any day. There's something disconcerting about walking out of an air-conditioned dorm at 5 am and immediately being saturated with your own sweat. Talk about a major environmental change: I went from living on the Gulf Coast (95 degree and 100% humidity) to Colorado Springs (70 degrees and 20% humidity coupled with a ~6,000 foot elevation change) in less than 2 days. |

Mary Flannery - PMEL. She's a Redskins fan too. She was at an air show in Idaho (Mtn. Home AFB), and a pilot had to eject, crashing his plane. She got a photo, but I can't find it. I'll bet it was intense. |

Don't know if you heard about it, but there were some tornadoes in Northern Colorado about a month ago that pretty much wiped out the town of Windsor. The day before, I saw the biggest thunderhead in my life. It nearly took up the entire sky, and it was shaped like an anvil. It was wicked. That cloud looks similar, only smaller. Did you know that only Florida receives more lightning per year than Colorado? |

(biloxi MS being the first, and only 4 hours away)... i mean, i saw a tiny bit on one flight to dallas, but i don't really remember seeing any around DC. here it happens a LOT, and it'll just sit up in the clouds sparking all night. |
