Getting ready for an awesome year of movies

Seeing Sheriff's thread got me thinking about all of the movies coming out this year and I thought I'd create a thread where any movie fans could talk about recently seen movies as well as upcoming ones and new trailers will get posted when found. Here's a list of a few that I personally can't wait for in the order of their release:

I'm actually more excited about the return of Sopranos and Entourage than any movie. But some of those movies should be decent.

So many sequels, not of which I plan to see.

I'll probably see: Grindhouse, Paprika, Stardust, Sunshine, The Golden Compass, PoTC, The Simpsons, Shrek The Third.

Hot Fuzz looks like it's going to be great, but I might be biased because Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies.

There are some other movies that look pretty good to me (the new Halloween movie from Rob Zombie, Pathfinder, Spiderman3, Die Hard, The Simpsons Bourne Ultimatum, etc) but there aren't any that I feel like I have to see right away.

Re: Getting ready for an awesome year of movies

Recently seen movies: Breach and Zodiac

I'm a big fan of David Fincher (Se7en, The Game, Alien3) so I couldn't wait to see "Zodiac". If you didn't like "All the President's Men" you won't like this one -- there's a lot of talk, and really not as much suspense or thrills as you'd expect. If you're up for a good thinking person's movie this will fit the bill. I love the dark, moody cinematography. The murder scenes are so casual, so ... non-chalant, it's a different way of moviemaking compared with your everyday slasher flicks. I'd give "Zodiac" three and a half stars.

Fight Club was his most overrated movie. Alien3 was so-so. But his most overlooked was "The Game" with Michael Douglas. The scene with the porcelain clown was pretty spooky.

Same thing for "Breach" -- a movie about spies, but not a spy movie. Lots of talk, centered on personal relationships, the downfall of a good man... pretty fair, but I'd wait for it on HBO or something. Two and half stars.

I love movies and a weekend doesn't feel complete if I haven't seen a new movie either in the theater or on dvd.

And I had some high hopes for Pathfinder but it got delayed so much I just don't know anymore. but I'll still go see it, haha.

Re: Getting ready for an awesome year of movies

I've recently watched Pursuit of Happyness, Children of Men, and Curse of the Golden Flower.

Pursuit of Happyness: I thought it was a pretty moving story and it's good to every once in a while watch a movie about beating real life odds. Will Smith deserved his oscar nomination and he and his son had a few really touching moments that I know a few of us can connect with in relation to our fathers when we were kids.

Children of Men: A movie that deserved more pub than it got. Incredibily well shot movie with multiple scenes lasting 10-12 minutes without a cut. I wouldn't really compare it to Bladerunner like the ads said, but still worth a look.

Curse of the Golden Flower: Up there with 300 as far as one of the most incredibily amazing looking movies. The story is not what I was really expecting (IE some semi Epidus Rex type stuff) but it was still well done. I just can't say enough about the camera work and use of colors. Any fan of epic asian films should enjoy this. and it was freakin awesome to see Chow Yun Fat playing the role of a bastard of an emperor, father, and husband cuz u don't expect that from his previous roles.

Merged: The Movies Thread

Well, i figured that everytime i want to talk about a movie i just post it up in the SHFT so i don't have to make a new thread. So maybe this thread would serve well when we want to talk about new movies in theaters.

So, to start this sumbitch off. I just watched the simpsons movie. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. I watched the midnight show and it was over by 1:40. So its not way to long but it is hilarious. The great thing is that they obviously don't have to develop any of the characters and go straight into the good stuff. It is awesome. F...ing awesome. The people in the theater were the type of people that would go watch the movie at midnight on a thursday. It was a great crowd to watch the movie with. It was getting claps throughout the movie. I can't say enough about it. I was worried it wouldn't deliver but it most definitely did. I loved it. I didn't stop smiling at all throughout the movie.

Also i watched chuck and larry last week. Great movie also by the way. I would talk about other great movies of the summer but i'm going to niagara falls at 6 am so i need some sleep.

Best summer for movies, EVER. Seriously it is insane. Knocked up, Transformers, die hard, Harry Potter 5, sicko, and not to mention bourne coming out next week along with that movie superbad or whatever it is called. Then rush hour 3!! This year is fantastic. I've watched most of the movies worth watching but i didn't see fantastic 4 but i heard it sucked.
I can't wait to see the Simpsons. Do you still believe this?
Haha!! That was over a year ago. That is awesome that we've been waiting for so long. I wasn't able to keep up with watching all the new episodes while at college so i can't talk about that. However, i still feel the show is obviously falling and has been for a few years. But i was wrong, the movie is going to revitalize the simpson's saga not kill it. I felt that the show would end there with a movie to finish it out. Even if this movie doesn't translate to better episodes it still will cause more interest in buying older seasons on DVD and such.

Movie was f'n fantastic. I mean, i loved it. The opening till the end. I'm not going to talk about anything specific because that would ruin it. Definitely watch the movie this weekend. Sleep time for me. I have to be up in 2 hours. :(

I saw the Simpsons movie on Friday night. It was just as good as BSB mentioned, I would definitely go see it again. There were lots of typical simpsons humor in it.

Check out Bale's new flick, Rescue Dawn. It's intense.

Wow! That's awesome... it's cool to see stars not in the biz finance indies. Damon Dash (Rocafella) helped produce "The Woodsman", an indie with Kevin Bacon.

Didn't know Brand was into good film... being in L.A., it probably rubbed off on him.

The new Bourne is getting killer early reviews... I can't wait to see it.

I just got back from seeing Bourne Ultimatum. Great movie. Not a single minute wasted.

It helps, of course, to have seen the first two movies. But this movie was one of the best I've seen in years.

Saw Simpsons on Saturday. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit surreal at times to see those characters on the big screen.

Sunshine sucked! A story with potential given to folks who lack talent and vision is a recipe for disaster. And the movie industry wonders why they aren't making as much as they used to.

Re: Getting ready for an awesome year of movies

kinda let this thread slip after all the work put into wrangling up those trailers but BSB's thread (http://www.redskinswarpath.com/parking-lot/18988-what-movie-are-you-watching.html) reminded me about it.
Theater wise:

Simpson's Movie: One of the funniest movies I've seen in a couple years for me. Had a lot of what made the show great about 5 or so years ago and then some with some comedic freedom allowed by the PG-13 rating. I think one of the coolest parts of the movie was during the credits where it showed who did the voices for which characters. All I got to say is Hank Azaria is the man.

Bourne Ultimatum: One of the best action flicks in the last decade. I love James Bond, but Bourne would crush him. It was a nice wrap up to the series as Matt Damon has said he doesn't wish to continue playing the character. The movie also had one of the sweetest fight scenes and two of the coolest chase scenes in a movie in a while.

Can't wait to see Rush Hour 3 and Stardust next week and then Superbad, War, and Halloween later this month.

DVD wise:

The super gianormous release of recent weeks is of course 300. Anyone and everyone that hasn't seen this movie should be ashamed of yourselves. Although it doesn't have the strongest plot ever, the work put into the movie by the actors/actresses and the crew overcomes that one pothole to make one of the best action movies of all time. Anyone else lucky enough to have an HD-DVD player can actually have a feature turned on that shows in a small box in the corner, what was actually filmed in front of the blue screen to see the incredible amount of work that went into bringing the story to life.

Anyone who is a fan of Shaun of the Dead, I highly recommend atleast checking out Hot Fuzz. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are funny as hell again in this spoof on action movies with awesome co-stars like Timothy Dalton.

I'm looking forward to watching Disturbia and the special edition release of Flash Gordon this week and then Labyrinth special edition and ATHF next week.

and for anyone who didn't follow the San Diego Comic-Con coverage or just movie news in general here are a couple new trailers and teasers:

I think I give the slight edge to Bourne Identity over Bourne Ultimatum. Only because Identity was the one that started it all. But it's extremely close.

Both were better than Bourne Supremacy.
kinda let this thread slip after all the work put into wrangling up those trailers but BSB's thread (http://www.redskinswarpath.com/parking-lot/18988-what-movie-are-you-watching.html) reminded me about it.

American Gangster= Apple - Trailers - Universal Pictures - American Gangster

and if u can find the footage that Marvel had pulled off the net, the Iron Man trailer is sweet as hell with Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" song playing in the background.
American Gangster is a must see for me I think. Denzel and Crowe. Two of the best right there.

We Own the Night (another Mark Cuban movie) looks like it might be good as well.

Anyhow I'm going to merge this BSB's thread

Re: What movie are you watching?
I think I give the slight edge to Bourne Identity over Bourne Ultimatum. Only because Identity was the one that started it all. But it's extremely close.

Both were better than Bourne Supremacy.
That's good to know...I'm going to have to go see it now. I wasn't going to, I was going to wait until it came out on video.

Oh definitely don't wait for it to come out on video. This is as close to a must-see movie as there is.

I'm really shocked to hear so many people say this. I am certainly going to go see it now.
It's so hard to see a the third of any movie succeed.
