Trade up

Ever since I heard the rumor about the Skins trading up to the #1 pick and the interest in J. Russell, I have had a bad feeling.....

Trade to Oakland for the #1 pick:
J. Campbell, #6 Pick, and another player or draft pick.

Which means that Gibbs would be able to start the "8" car next year while J. Russell holds the clipboard for a year!

Please tell me that the Redskins are not this stupid!

Let's keep draft talk in the draft forum.

thanks

This is not a story. You never know who is going to slip in the draft so teams HAVE to do their homework.

I actually heard this on the Riggins radio show the other day. Since those guys are close to alot of people within the organization, they hear the same rumors we do, but they add their own theories to the rumors.

Before hearing that, I thought the Russell rumor was plain stupid, but the conspiracy buff in me thinks it makes perfect sense. Get rid of Campbell and draft Russell, because he's the "real deal". But everyone know Gibbs isn't going to start a rookie, and Russell would have to learn the offense anyway, so that gives him the perfect excuse to put Brunell back under center.

Now I don't think this scenario WILL happen, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it did happen.

Re: Trade up

While I think this is false, I also wouldn't be shocked at a number of ways the Redskins could bomb this draft. I also think Gibbs would like to see Brunell play another season. For our sake, I hope everything in your post is incorrect!

Hey tazhog, what's with all the posting on threads that are a week old...and i mean all of them. At the very least, its pretty annoying

anyway didn't want to start a thread about this cuz its not big news, but I went to the univ of md and i thought this was interesting

I like it when i see terps become skins, doubt we need hollenbach though.

I wanna trade up, but not this bad.

This would be an obvious and egregious step in the wrong direction for the Redskins

I believe this guy is the only reason the Skins would consider trading up:

Dude chill out. What do you think would happen if Gibbs and our FO made this type of move? The whole city would go out to Redskin Park and burn the place down. JC is our guy. We have 2 number one picks invested in him. He's finally getting all the reps w/ the first team this whole off season which was not the case the last two years. He's finally in the same offense two years in a row for the first time in 5 or 6 years. Do you think we would throw all that away to start over again??????????????????? C'mon. Not even our FO is that stupid.

It wouldn't be if we got Calvin Johnson. But it's not going to happen. If anything we need to trade down and try and get some more quality depth.

He had 76 catches for all those yards and TD's and had a terrible college QB. If his college qb ( i forget the guys name) was standing in front of the ocean and all he all he had to do was throw a football in the ocean he would miss the ocean. he sucked so bad it wasn't even funny. So that tells you how good CJ is.

ps. oh yeah his name was reggie ball. actually i'm pissed at reggie ball. i lost $ on one of tech's game's because ball kept missing johnson who was wide open all day.

we dont need calvin johnson we need a pass rushing de,like charles johnson.

Re: Trade up

Trading up for Calvin Johnson would be so good. I think that trading down is a more viable option, we should add some day one picks in our poor mix.

rvd420 04-14-2007 12:58 AM

Re: Trade up

we do need a tall receiver, but trading up would be really stupid, not to mention what it would take to get cj.we should take a receiver on the second day.you never know we could end up with another marques colston.we have to many smurf receivers, our tallest one is ryan hoag at 6 foot.

Sheriff Gonna Getcha 04-14-2007 01:09 AM

Re: Trade up

I think our receiving corps is just fine. Brandon Lloyd isn't tiny. Moreover, tall receivers are good red zone threats, but Cooley and Sellers fill that role nicely. Besides, the original smurfs did fine by me.

Re: Trade up
can someone explain to me the so called need of a tall receiver? whats the matter with really good small receivers?
Tall receivers cause match up problems. As cornerbacks remain around 5'10" in height, the taller and more physical a receiver is in relationship to average corner's height, the harder it is to defend again short routes and deep/jump balls.

So a 6'5" receiver with a 45 in vertical and 4.3 speed would be a nightmare to gameplan against, especially if the opposite receiver to him is Santana!!!

With CJ on our team, opposing defensive coordinators with have to "pick their poison."

Re: Trade up

i saw word somewhere, but cant remember where that detroit is goin to take cj then trade him.one of the supposed trade partners is the skins.but i still think theres a chance well either trade for brigss or samuel.i hope not briggs.even though Calvin Johnson is the best player in the draft, doesnt mean he will be in the pros.oh good call skinsfan91,minus CJ.

EXoffender 04-14-2007 06:23 PM

Re: Trade up

I just hope that we draft someone who's going to catapult this team to the SB. Calvin Johnson, and Alan Branch to a lesser degree, seems to fit that bill. Putting that into perspective, we seem to be more than one player away from scaring opponents. Maybe the only reason we took a stepback last year is because we had to work Jason Campbell into the starting lineup. And with the defense faltering as it did, we lost games that Campbell didn't lose himself.

Campbell17 04-15-2007 11:08 PM

Re: Trade up

trading up to the #1 pick to get J.Russel wouldn't be a smart idea because campbell towards the end of the year was starting to be more and more confident running the offense, i'd hate to re-start at square one. I would be interested, however, in drafting Joe Thomas from Wisconsin, that is my big college team, and I think it would help to sign him. I just don't believe that Russel would be a proper fit to the Redskins offense. I would make a consideration to pick up a quarterback later on in the draft, such as John Stocco form `consin or another player along those lines because he will fill in for to old to play brunell
