I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
Just curious, wonder where Chris is on the PRIORITY LIST?
I would think they would like to get his DEAL DONE. |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I'm sure they will as soon as his time comes. Right now we have free agency and the draft to worry about.
|
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
There is no cap space to renew him right now. Let him play out on his rook contract at a cheap price an then re-sign for next year.
|
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
while i think cooley is a fine tight end, no way we should break the bank for him.

I think we need to come as close as possible. I bet when it's his time to renew, he'll be one of the top paid TE in the league. In fact, if we had the room it would be smart to re-sign him sooner than later seeing how the market is rising year over year. |

I think he's a premier TE in the league. I don't know about breaking the bank. But you can't let a player like CC get away. You would probually break the bank to sign another TE with his talent level, to replace a guy like Chris. |

Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
He is definitely someone we should approach mid season.
If we let him hit open waters we will pay through the nose or lose him. |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
Cooley way 8th among TE in receptions, 7th in yards, and tied for 4th in TDs. I'd say he is going to want a big payday, but I don't think we will break the bank
|
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I see a bonus of $12mil + on the horizon if we want to keep him.

I agree. In my mind, Cooley needs to show us more before people here start getting their panties in a wad about him being signed to a long-term contract. If he tears it up this year and puts up the kind of numbers that warrant a nice, long-term contract, then fine. Sign him up. Until then, he's just another tight end. |

He's a definite keeper, young, good blocker and fine catcher, team guy & gets it done on the field. What more could you possibly ask for? |

Never fails.
Question the superstar status of Chris Cooley and people go bonkers. |

Question the superstar status of Chris Cooley and people go bonkers.
I didn't here anyone say anything about superstar? But not sure what games you've been to and EVER seen COOLEY as an AVERAGE TE. That's crazy. I go to all home games and have never seen him play AVERAGE EVER! This guy is a PROVEN PREMIER TE in the league and a leader for the SKINS. |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
while i think cooley is a fine tight end, no way we should break the bank for him.
Ideally, no, but he is very deserving of top TE money. This is a guy who's getting paid a 3rd round salary, has eastablished himself as at least a top 10 TE, more like top 5, and hasn't complained once about his money. This is the type of player who you pay to set a good example.
Plus he's vital to the success of the passing game. |

Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I don't think he is Antonio Gates but he seems to do everything we ask of the guy. I think you are underestimating his value to the team. There are alot of faster, bigger, and more popular players but this guy fits our scheme tremendously.
My question to you is who can we get for equal or lesser value that will perform at equal or better level. I don't think we should start underpaying on our only consistent short pass/surehanded threat in an offense which is marred by the inability to throw deep. I think the reality is we should do everything within reason to keep this guy if we can.
Sorry. This should I think sum it up in a simple fashion, from my stand point. He is ranked 8th or BETTER IN ALL categories for TE in production in the entire NFL. Stats on nfl.com I think he is one of the best in the league at his position and has to be paid accordingly. If you let a guy like CC depart, you are going to have to pay BIG BUCKS to replace a player with his talent level. |

Here are the stats for Daniel Graham, the highest paid TE in the league. If Cooley is a priority, and I believe he should be, we need to treat him as such. He was our top receiver last year, and tied the team lead for receiving touchdowns. Among TEs on the team he had eleven times more catches than all others combined. Cooley blocks - well. He does everything he is asked to do. He is a free spirit on the team without being a disruption (to anyone but the cheerleaders). Frankly, I think a lot of what we have done with the cap lately (the Brunell refinance which makes him a free agent next year, etc.) is to make sure we have a little cash next year for the Chris Cooleys of the team. |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
First, I do want the Redskins to extend Cooley before he becomes a free agent. But I do believe Redskins fans as a whole have over rated Cooley. We all love him...he plays hard...he is the type of player we want on this team. But trust me the rest of the league is not sitting around counting the minutes until Chris Cooley becomes a free agent.

Man, he has got some cheerlearders run off..... Capn.:smashfrea celt, it's the other way around........HE IS WAY UNDERRATED! Remember how many 56 jerseys you USED TO see. They are NOW 47, for a GREAT REASON, this guy is becoming the face of the team. |

I think I heard that logic before. How did that work out between the Skins and Dockery? The fact is that we have the cap room to re-sign him now and still do everything we want to in free agency and the draft. Canuck's cap sheets show us with 10 mil and the ability to free up 10 more. There is no reason to wait to get Cooley deal done. If they drag thier feet, and don't get a new deal done before the season, I expect Cooley will have no reason not to test the free agency market next year. I hope they get the deal done in early april. |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I don't believe we should worry about signing Chris Cooley before training camp. Why? I can certainly understand wanting to open talks with him around mid season, but there is no sense in worrying about trying to sign him now. Like what someone else said, let him play out this contract first before putting more money on him. Now, he is definitely a valuable asset to this team and anyone who feels he isn't is smoking some major crack. He hasn't reached premier or superstar status as of yet, but he is definitely a guy you want on your team and I definitely want him back here for years to come.

This guy is TOP 8 statistically OR BETTER in ALL categories for TE in the ENTIRE NFL. What makes him overrated or not premier......???? His stats clearly speak for themselves. He's NOT overrated and he is a PREMIER TE in this league. A HUGE ASSET TO THE SKINS! |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I agree Cooley should be signed as soon as possible. He is the definition of a "Core Redskin" and deserves every bit of money that we give him.
|
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
If Cooley has a monster year he will test the market next year. It is critical that this deal gets done ASAP. I couldn't stand seeing him in any other uniform. The guy has done alot and has won games for this team. If Gibbs lets him walk after the season i'll lose alot of respect for this organization. The team should do what the Bears players were doing for Lovie Smith..LOL. We'll just have to wait and see i suppose.

Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
Thats not how our front office works. They like to wait until the last minute. Then our players just test the market.I would not be surprised if we lose Cooley.I would be really really pissed, but they don't care what us as the fans think.

It does appear however from last year to this year the FO does seem to have a business plan and sticking to it. Which is GREAT to see. Hopefully they are learning from all the mistakes of past. I would think CC is on the forefront of business as soon as we can finish a few more deals/FA. |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I think I understand the difference between "Superstar" and "Premiere". "Superstar" is someone who plays for Dallas or New England, acts like a jackass calling attention to themselves for any and every little thing they do, or whoever Peter King has a hard-on for. "Premiere" is all the other guys who do thier job and rank in the top 10 at thier position.
|
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
just because you CAN free up another 10mill doesn't mean you should. when you restructure older players' base salaries to signing bonus, it just means high deadcap when they finally get released :/.
A TE franchise tag is only 4.5mill this year, and probably won't be much higher next year (unless gates gets a monster deal in the meantime, which is looming). It might even be better to use the space and jettison some dead weight now to give us more real room in the future... |

I'm with ya GoSkin. Peter King the Peter is an IDIOT! How does PREMSTAR SOUND??? SIGN THE CAPT! HE DESERVES. :food-smil |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I understand everyone concerns seeing how the FO assumably mishandled re-signing Dockery before season's end. We did ink Betts in the same scenario and it's also likely that Dockery and his agent thought it would work in thier favor to test the FA market. It could've worked out in our favor too. I don't think Cooley will be as coveted as OL when his time comes to re-sign and thus he'll probably be more than willing to accept a deal (considering negotiations) to stay with the team.
|
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I've never understood why some people don't understand that the Redskins Front Office is not run by Don Corleone. It's not like they just say "I'll make you an offer you can't refuse" and if the player (Cooley in this case) doesn't sign there's a dead horse's head in their bed the next morning. I know there are a bunch of us here who just want us to re-sign every player we have right away. And if we don't we're some awful franchise. But sometimes no matter how good the offer there's only so much you can do. Loyalty is nice, but at what cost.
All that said, I hope we keep Cooley |
Re: I'm curious if they are trying to get COOLEY RE-SIGNED before camp?
I keep seeing these things and I keep thinking this is Cooleys 3rd season wouldn't that make him a RFA next year? If you cannot come up with an aggrement slap him with the transition tag or franchise tag
