Who ride? He ride. Who ride? He ride. Who ride? He ride......the bus right out of town.

All I have to say is......wow.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

He's 30, but I'm sure that he will get a TON of attention on the FA market. I'd hate to pick up two aging vets on the downsides of their careers in Fletcher and Porter, but he's a tempting FA.

wow, this guy will scooped up fast.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

I like him but he carries a huge price tag... fletcher seems like he may fly a bit under the radar and be a better deal...

yes, but i still think you can be the greatest coach of all time, but players win games. porter can still play

MTK 03-01-2007 04:44 PM

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

True but he's 30 and carrying a large cap figure. The article also points to his penchant for shooting his mouth off and that not meshing with the Steelers' image.

but they play a 3-4 right? Who is taking his spot?

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

I was talking to Gmanc about this the other day, telling him that Porter might be an option in the coming days.

Gmanc hates Porter, perhaps more than any player in the NFL. So I say pass on Porter

Will they still play a 3-4 under Tomlin?

I thought they were going to wait to see how the draft and free agency went before deciding.

Dirtbag59 03-01-2007 05:59 PM

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

The Steelers are keeping the 3-4 while adding 4-3 wrinkles. Ironically NFL Network has been running a Joey Porter commercial for the past few days with him talking about how happy he was to be drafted by the Steelers.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

I think this move is only surprising to some of us because he's a guy whose mouth has far surpassed his level of talent.

I agree with dmek that Porter can still play, but he's expendable.

I haven't spent a whole bunch of time exploring the Steelers' defensive options, but Mike Tomlin really seems like he knows what he's doing.

Maybe Lavar is going to go home.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

I would love to sign Porter to somthing like a 3 year 10 million dallor contract. But I bet some one else will spend more and over pay for him. Let's just hope it's not us.
And yea I think that would pretty cool if Lavar went back to Pitt.

I don't think you want anything to do with Joey Porter. Another LB on the downside of 30 with diminishing skills. Definitely a shell of the player he used to be.

Add to that all the leadership he can bring to a defense and he's a very attractive FA to pursue.

Re: Steelers cut Joey Porter

If a team signs Porter, they'll be writing checks far in excess of $10 for 3 years. You might as well hope that the Skins could pick up Peyton Manning for a $5M signing bonus and $4M a year after he opted out of his deal in Indy. Here are the three words that apply in both cases: Not Gonna Happen!

Fletcher will play MLB; that will free up Marshall to move back to OLB where he was actually productive. And it will take Holdman out of the starting line-up. That's just fine - - barring a big injury back there. If you want Porter to play opposite Washington, get ready to use up a humongous portion of whatever cap room is left.

so marshall will start ahead of rocky? rocky and washington should start.

You'll be happy to know that Holdman is an UFA and we are not going to re-sign him.

Sheriff:

Until Holdman signs with someone else and reports to their mini-camp, I will not be the least surprised to find him back in the Redskins camp - albeit for not that much money - because he's one of those guys who always fought his guts out every week...

Boy, I hope that doesn't happen. But if it does, don't be surprised if his experience gets him a starting slot over Rocky.

Let me sit in my ignorant bliss and enjoy the thought of a Holdman-less LB corps.
