A Kris Jenkins Rumor
So this is just sort of a rumor, so don't get to carried away with it, but I heard it from my dad, who was talking about it at work. I know how people get all pissed off about unsubstantiated rumors, so take this with a grain of salt, but...
My dad builds houses in Montgomery and PG Counties, and today his sales guy told him that Kris Jenkins (DT - Car) was in today looking for a new places to live with his agent. I know that Jenkins went to UMD, so that could be his only association with the area, but the sales guy (who sounded like he didn't follow football) seemed to think that he was moving to the area because he was going to play for the Skins. I know free agency doesn't start for over a month, but maybe he knows something and that's why he was looking for a place close to FedEx. Or, it could just be a senseless rumor or miscommunication or whatever, but I figured I'd pass it along anyways. |
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
if i remember right, Jenkins is very good against the run. for the right price, he would be welcome. anyone know if he is injury prone?
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
He's solid. Don't think he's a free agent, but he might be a cap casualty. Question is can we afford to ressurect other teams' casualties?
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Isn't he old?
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
well...that'd free up a draft pick...still, I don't like bringing in guys if it means letting guys like dock and jansen walk
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
He played in every game this past season, but missed the vast majority of the '04-'05 and '05-'06 seasons because of injuries to his shoulder and knee, respectively.
I just read that he's supposed to be under contract until 2009, so I guess it would have to be a trade, unless they let him go. I really have no idea what to think. |
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
I don't think he should be a priority, if in fact he finds himself on the market.

Shoulder problem in 2004 Torn ACL in 2005 Played all 16 this year and I think made the Pro Bowl. If it turns out to be true, I think his price tag will be fairly hefty which makes me wonder if the Skins are looking to trade (Colts?) their #6. |
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Remember, it could just be he was looking for a house. It may not have even been a house for him. So let's try not to get too worked up...though it is fun to do.

You're probably right about that, but like I said, I figured I'd share, at least to stir the pot a little bit. |

Some people, I don't wanna say names, are gonna get all worked up about this thread lol. Watch, just give it until tonight. |

would welcome him, but have no idea how it would be done.

Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Kris Jenkins was considered to be the best DT in the league before Shaun Rogers emerged. If people recall, Spurrier was supposedly contemplating making a push to trade for Rogers (who, at the time, was considered to be a lazy underacheiver). Kris Jenkins is a high-risk, high-reward type of player. He's dominant when totally healthy, but he is rarely healthy.
I doubt we're making a push for the guy, but I'd be fine with any attempt to get him. My guess is that Carolina would probably ask to swap 1st rounders (they pick 14th) and pick up a 3rd rounder next season. If we were to do that (which I said I doubt will happen), we could probably pick up a guy like Reggie Nelson, Leon Hall, Laron Landry, Patrick Willis or, if Jansen is leaving, Levi Brown. |
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
That is similar to a rumor here in washington that Portis is selling his house right now. A guy called into the 980 the local radio station and said it but we'll see
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
at this point, bringing in players means cutting someone you already have for the money...I saw we stick to corner...and then fill needs in the draft

Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
We haven't overpayed for an aging vet in a while now. I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms from it. Let's do it!

He's a 27 y.o. DT for Carolina. |

I know a guy who works at a Starbucks in Bethesda and he swears he saw Dwight Freeney getting a double-grand mocha latte in a Doug Williams jersey

According to footballsfuture.com, it looks like he might be a cap casualty. 2007 NFL Trades, Cuts, and Transactions
Kris Jenkins, Defensive Tackle, Carolina Panthers Among other potential cap casualties in Carolina, Jenkins may be the most recognizable name. Jenkins played in every Panthers game this season, but wasn’t quite as effective as hoped, even though he played well. If the tackle wants to stay with his current team, he may have to be willing to re-structure his contract. The Panthers will try to re-structure before simply releasing him, but the team will certainly be making some changes.
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Kris Jenkins will likely attract numerous suitors in free agency if the Panthers do in fact release him. Given that the Redskins have to restructure player salaries merely to sign enough players to fill the roster and that most other teams have between $10M and $25M of salary cap space, it is unlikely that the Redskins could offer Jenkins a contract.

Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
I don't see a need for a DT. We have pretty good plays at that position though they have been hurt this past season. Our problem is that our LBs are shit and our DE can't buy a sack. I see no reason why we would want Jenkins.
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
lets just say thats rumor.
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
I would love this guy in hoping that he can saty healthy. This guy is a beast at 6'4 340+ lbs. who can get to the qb very quickly while stopping the run. We are know that our dl was not that good this year which could have been the cause for our linebackers to play so poorly. If we don't get him I would want us to draft Branch. We desperately need a big fat run stopping dl to keep the o-lineman off of our lbs.
I was jus thinking the other day when Greg Williams was in Buffalo and was having one the best defenses in the league he had two fat defensive tackles in the middle of that line. (Pat Williams and Sam Adams) With these two dts there linebackers including safeties were able to stop the run at will along with there de to just rush the passer (ala carter and a fast speed rusher in the free agent pool). |
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
At DT we have Montgomery, Golston, Salavea, Griffin, and Evans? I don't think its a clear need area at this point. DE and CB are far more glaring.
|
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Apparently that combination was not getting it done since we had the least amount of sacks in the league. Remember your de and cb can not be any good if you do not have pressure. Look at the Greg Williams' teams in buffalo. It all starts at the core. We have Carter and add another speed rusher so that is all they will have to do and two big, fat tackles in the middle is a staple of Gregg Williams' defense. Yeah Kris Jenkins is a beast in run support when healthy. He really does free up other players to do there thing.

Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Maybe it's a decoy, and Kris was actually doing some house hunting for his kid brother Cullen, who is a free agent (restricted)

Golston looked good for a rookie, but not necessarily starting material at this point. Montgomery hardly saw the field. Griffin is great when healthy, but is injured all too often. Salave'a was an average DT when he was healthy. While I highly doubt we'd ever go after Jenkins, I definately think we need help at DT. |

all these are mediocre players at best (except Griffin). with a player like Branch, Jenkins or Hollis Thomas that would free up the double team off of others on the line which will cause more pressure and effectiveness of the secondary |

Could be, but do they have the same agent, because apparently he was there with Kris yesterday. Hell, maybe the ravens are going to try to get him and he's just looking in PG because he went to UMD and knows that area. |

You can say the same thing in reverse. If we had better ends and secondary it would take pressure of the middle. Defensive tackle is not the weak point of our defense. Not even close. |

The problem is that we have holes everywhere on defense. I agree that we need better ends, but DTs are the heart and soul of a defense. They aren't as sexy as LBs or DEs as they don't get the stats, but if you can't get pressure in the middle your defense is going to suck (see Redskins 2006 defense). I saw a lot more pressure coming from the edges last season than I did up the gut. |
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Jenkins is a monster when healthy... imagine him pairing up with Griffin?! Wow!
Injuries are definitely a concern with him though. |

I think your mistaken about the Elvis sighting, because I believe I saw him at Wendy's, however that is a simple mistake as they are owned by McD's. |
Re: A Kris Jenkins Rumor
Are you kidding me? Elvis works at a truck stop in Natchez, MS, and moonlights as a lounge singer on one of those Gambling Riverboats.
Kris Jenkins would be a good pick up, if the price is right. Plenty of other areas need to be met before overspending on a DT. |

We have a bunch of guys who can play, but it's a position where we need to get a stud. That's why we should draft Branch.

Does anyone remember Dana Stubblefield? Or how about Dan Wilkinson? |

before this year no team could run on us this year teams gashed us for long yards.... up the middle enough said!
