Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
#1 I'm not sure what is wrong with the defense, but I hope Williams is starting to find some humility. I have not seen a worse Redskins defense in my entire life (and that includes Coach Edwards' defense). They can't tackle, force turnovers, stop the run, rush the passer, and they get penalties to boot.
#2 Betts is a very good back who could start for a lot of teams, but as long as he is careless with the football I'd prefer to see him remain a change-of-pace back. His fumble resulted in a 6-10 point swing. #3 Andre Carter has been playing like a pass rushing stud for over a month now. Carter has racked up 4 sacks and a heckuva lot of pressures and tackles in the last 5 games. If only he were 15 pounds heavier and stouter against the run. #4 Those who booed Mark Brunell's appearance on the field are classless. I'm ashamed to be lumped in together with them as a Redskins fan. #5 Jason Campbell looks pretty solid. He is as elusive as any QB not named Michael Vick, Vince Young or Donovan McNabb. How many tackles did he shed to gain yards when pressure forced him out of the pocket? Moreover, he is as good at play-action and pump-fakes as any QB I've seen in the league. |

We really need a linebacker and a Corner, for once...please leave the offense alone in the offseason |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
Valiant comeback attempt for a team just playing for pride. Defense just let us down again. If the defense can improve to mere average, and the offense continues at the pace it has been playing recently, next season could be special! Let's hope!

Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
good grief...what an empty feeling...that was probably the last football game I'll watch until next season
|
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
The defense? I hate to be the negative one, but I have little faith in Gregg Williams to turn things around at this point.
Jason sorta had his coming out party tonight. All for naught. |

As for my thoughts, well i don't have much. The defense blows unlike anything i have ever seen. They blow epic proportions. If Gregg Williams doesn't learn something from this, then maybe it's time to find someone else to fix the defense. Also, I really, really, cannot emphasize this enough, do not want to see us go out in free agency and spend spend spend and fail to produce results. I am sick and tired of us being the laughingstock of the NFL during the spring. Gibbs needs to start building through the draft. That also cannot be emphasized enough. We're not playing to win a Superbowl now, we're back to square 1, and it's time to start rebuilding. One more thing, I like Ladell Betts and all, but he needs to learn how to hang onto the ball. I'm gonna be glad to see Portis back there next year. |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
I really don't think its that bad...just too many injuries, if we can pick up an MLB and a corner we're straight...and depth on the D line

The sad part about that is most of them will be on this forum tonight or tomorrow pretending to be Redskins fans....I say "pretending" because if they were real Redskins fans they would root for anyone who is in any game at anytime |

Trust me, injuries were not our problem this year. Sure we had some key guys go down this year, but you know what, someone will go down next year too. We have to get beyond that. |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
Next year...I'm excited on offense - lets integrate the remaining 80% (or whatever's left) of Saunders' playbook, and let JC develop better timing with receivers like Moss and ARE.
On defense, I'm less hopeful (especially if Springs is not back). We have Sean Taylor playing like a cunt right now, not surprising that he's so demorialized given the stellar supporting cast we have in the secondary. I'd like to see them shed the redtape on the defensive coaching staff (especially shedding the baggage with all the conflicting secondary coaches). Bring in Nate Clements, and sign a free agent DT, and sign/draft a linebacker. |

yea brandon was talking smack and it annoys me. then the finn buy went after ST while downing th ball. |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
Defense - Nowhere to go but up, right? Also, Tiki won't be playing next year. Why in the world has he absolutely torched us the past 3-5 years? IMO, he's not that great.
JC - He played well. Solid game to end the season with. 2TDs, 68% completion, 220yds, 1int. Betts - I believe tonight he showed once again why he is no Portis-replacer. Santana - Can he play the deep ball or what? REL - Solid game. Sellers - Nice short yardage running. |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
The defense needs a complete overhaul. We need a DT, DE, MLB, FS and a corner. But since you can't get rid of everyone then I would start with either a DT or DE and then a MLB. You have no chance to win in the NFL when you keep getting gashed on the run.

Jason sorta had his coming out party tonight. All for naught.[/quote] When we're hopefully making a playoff run next season (assuming the defense is turned around) Campbell's coming out party will definitely not be for naught! I'm glad this season is over (nightmare is over) and I look forward to things picking up from where we left off last season. There where a lot of negatives this season, but there were also some poignant positives as well! |

We were saying the exact opposite of that at the end of 2004. |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
Guys, Nate Clements isn't going to solve our problems. Tiki Barber ran for a franchise record tonight. Nate isn't going to shore up our defense that much! He 'aint that much of a bad ass.
Gregg Williams needs to look at his game planning in my opinion. They ran probably north of 50% of their running plays to one side, and we didn't make any adjustments. |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
we need a fat ass run stopping D end

No, but with another CB not named Kenny Wright or "Odie" Jimoh, you have the confidence to put them on an island more frequently while stacking the line (especially when playing a QB like Eli). |

Yeah, isn't it something. The defense was playing great that year and the offense sucked. Hopefully that's good news in that it won't take long to get that defense turned around. I think Williams will have a lot to prove next season, I think that big contract extension maybe went to his head. |

I agree with you--but this team's player personnel philosophy obviously does not value the draft. They prefer the FA approach--and I expect them to fire up Redskin One the first day of free agency... |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
I've constantly defended MLB Marshall, but I've defected to the anti-Marshall camp and think we need some new blood while retaining Marshall as an OLB or backup MLB.
MLB Patrick Willis anyone? He's projected as a late first rounder and is versatile and is a vocal leader (something we need on D). I'd love to trade down to nab Willis and pick up a 2nd rounder to get a Dlineman or DB. |

This is true, but herein is my biggest gripe with Williams' scheme. It seems as though too much depends on one or two guys. It seems like other defenses compensate well when one or two starters go down for the year. It's not a dramatic drop off. The Giants have been nicked up all season long. Even the Cowboys lost Greg Ellis, one of their top guys, and they survived. Same with the Eagles. I'm telling you, I just don't buy if he had a shut down corner or a stud this or that, everything changes. We'll have to wait and see. |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
cut holdman
move marshall to weak side move rocky to strong side get lance briggs and put him at MLB |
Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
Yeah i'm done defending Marshall this year too. He played good last year but this year has played pretty poorly. I would like to see move to backup outside linebacker though, he is definitely better than Holdman on the outside and would be a good backup.

Tiki Barber used to be a fumbling machine until he started holding the ball differently, maybe now that Tiki will have the time next season, maybe he can work with Betts. |

That's not true. We beat Minnesota to end 04 and Ramsey looked good in that game. We scored 21 points which was kind of the benchmark Gibbs had set for success. Plus we were returning one of the top defenses in the league. |

We are not going to be able to fix every part of this defense over the offense but we can, at least, make some improvements so that they will not look as bad as they did this year. Maybe we can get by with the improvements and the offense that seems as if it is going to be a pretty good one and we can work on the rest of the defense during the next off season. |

Re: Redskins-Giants Postgame Thoughts
We only have one pick in the first 3 rounds? We need to address the DBs first, there's a lot of talent coming out of college next year in the linebacker position that could very easily slip through the cracks, I think if we can pick up a 3rd round pick we could pick up HB blades out of pitt, hes a pretty nasty linebacker

Today, was the first time I saw him play. Although he is not a better ATHLETE than Vick or Young, I think he can definitely be a better QB than Vick. Not sure about Young. |
