Welcome back Nick!

Re: Redskins sign Novak
Old Man Landetta was there as well, probably seeing if he could outkick Mr. Frost.
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
It's not Cortez!
Now I can swallow that puke! |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Curious to see that Landetta was working out. Frost always seems to respond to pressure, perhaps they are just keeping that fire under his ass.

Re: Redskins sign Novak
I can't wait to hear the boo birds when he misses his first kick or has one blocked!
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Thank God the Skins went out and got a player who replace one of the few areas where we don't really have a weakness. Hall has kicked much better this season. I must have missed something, but the Skins lost by 16 on Sunday so I'll excuse that miss. His only other one was a kick Novak wouldn't have hit either. Great thinking....
hahaha...now that I've actually read the article I now realize it's cause Hall is injured...wow. |

Re: Redskins sign Novak
hopefully nick's worked on leg strength so he doesn't have to rely on line drive (blockable) FG attempts.
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Woo Hoo!
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
So Hall is going on IR?
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
well i know who's winning the super bowl this year...

Thats what worries me. Hopefully he beat the other guys outright, no questions asked. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
We all like Nick--local guy and all at UMD. But kicker is the most unforgiving job on a team. You can go from hero to goat in seconds. Good luck, Nick!
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
I have a feeling this is going to be addressed with a more permanent solution in the offseason. Too bad all of the top tier kickers went FA this past season...
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
good move. dont forget novak won that game for us against seattle here last season.
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
about time should have kept him last year

Lol, John Hall can tell you that! |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Wasn't Novak kicking for Arizona when Antonio Brown had his touchdown return? (from the 15) More short kickoffs--yeah!
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
This just isn't good. Liked what Novak did last season filling in, but if he's the guy the rest of THIS season, with as tight as this division is going to be and what every other team in the divison has for a kicker, just got a bad feeling about this season now. If Nick is a good, consistant kicker in the NFL, why isn't he on a roster? He's not a good, consistant, can't miss kicker, and this team will lose games now because Hall is out. DEAR GOD!!! Hope i'm wrong!!!!

Well correct me if I am wrong but this team isnt exactly lighting it up with Hall either... |

Seems like your only solution to replacing Hall is either trade for one or have Sean Taylor kidnap one. |

To his credit, he was behind All-Pro Neil Rackers in Arizona, and filled in nicely for him last year when he was hurt. They waited until the end of training camp to release him, after all the teams had secured who would be their kicker. And also did well for John Hall last year. He's not a step down by any means, and should be considered a good replacement for Hall. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Given Hall's injury we had no choice, so under the circumstances I don't hate the move.
But I am concerned about a couple of things. #1 Novak's penchant for having kicks blocked. He was 8 for 10 last year with the Cards, his two misses were blocked. #2, his short kickoffs. Maybe we'll keep using Frost, but even he hasn't been that great. Say what you will about Hall, but he was consistently getting the kickoffs to the 5 which isn't too shabby. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
I hope he ends up as the next Mosley but I dont think he has the leg for it. He'll be accurate but what happens when we needa a 55 yarder to wina game? Not an easy kick but I don't Novak has a chance in hell of making it. Not like there were many options though.

Granted, but it's more likely than not he'll be suited up to take the kick, which is more than we can say for Hall. However, your point is exactly why I think Gibbs & Co. will (finally) address this position meaningfully in the off season. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Hell we wouldn't have been able to count on Hall to hit 55 yarder.
At least Novak doesn't have the leg problems that Hall does, if he can be money from 45 on in that's all I'm asking. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Did he have block troubles in college? Maybe that's something that he'll work out of.
Kickoffs is a concern. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
maybe we can trade Duckett for Morton Anderson?
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
as far as I remember, Novak didn't have block problems in college. He struggled the 1st half of his freshman year, but then went on a nice tear to finish up his career.
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Well not that it was their choice but they have finally rid themselves of one of their free agent mistakes. I will be even happier when they dump Brunell in the offseason. Hopefully they will sign another proven corner since Springs can't be trusted and Rogers isn't ready for the big time yet.

Yay For UMD Grads!!!!!!!!!!! UMD 08 :-)

Hall has had shit luck with injuries. With the Jets he missed one game, with us he was healthy for an entire season only once. Hard to say he was a mistake in my opinion, you couldn't have predicted his injury troubles. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Why not trade Lloyd to Oakland for Janikowski?
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
because Janikowski would end up drunk or dead in a club in Southeast...
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Or both...
Still, he should be able to do kickoffs drunk. It would be nice to see one or two reach the end zone. |
Re: Redskins sign Novak
Apparently, Novak is in better shape than he was last year. They said his kickoffs are going deeper and higher than ever before.
|
Re: Redskins sign Novak
I hope so - we need every little bit of help we can get for field position until our D comes around.
