Re: Hall to be replaced?
i think he will be replaced by nick "the answer to all our problems" novak
i think this is good, kind of sucks for hall though |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
Novak had issues with low kicks. Didn't he have a couple of kicks blocked because he couldn't get it up?

Yeah, but with the innovations in viagara, I dont think it will be a problem. I keed I keed. |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
o yea, you have a superduper memory.
but maybe he's corrected his problems |

I think he had problems with low kicks because his range just isn't that good. He has to compensate by kicking lower longer line drives. |

Re: Hall to be replaced?
Please don't throw me to the wolves for questioning the Skins but, this is a problem that should have been addressed in the offseason. Kicker is such an important position.

no doubt, but just since you say it, how dare you question gibbs and the redskins. GOD, strike him down! just kidding, your right though |

I am planning a special thread on just that kind of decision making we have seen since Gibbs return, the inability to recognize and evaluate talent, I will get to it sometime this week, but to be short your 100% right! |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
Ya know in the offseason I thought that was a good idea, but I think Hall has kicked adequately this season. He had a horrendous kick against the Vikes that there's no excuse for. However, the one yesterday really made no difference. Other than that he's kicked very well this season. Those are his only 2 misses. Now, if they have an issue with him not getting his kickoffs deep enough, that I can see, but I think Hall has returned to being a reliable kicker.

Haven't you done that 3 or 4 times already? Your whole Beathard was the real star rant? <<TAF braces himself for the "you don't know football" retort>> |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
Yea, i love hall, i mean what other kicker get s unsportmanlike penalties called against him not against the rusher?
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
yes, and a LOT of people here saw the need, as did the entire 980 staff, but nothing was done. longwell was available and used to bad weather too. punter you only had the option to overpay zastidul (sp?) or draft/sign plackemeier, koch, torp, or weatherford (i voted for koch - he's played alright for the raven's so far).
again, like CB/DB/LB and OL depth, plenty of people questioned the inaction. it's too late now though. we've got what we've got. todd peterson and novak are left overs btw. don't expect too much better from either of them - it's not like they were able to find a real job. |

How about this one? Going after Randle El AND Brandon Lloyd? Why not just Randle El and David Patten? Thrash can still play in 4 wideout sets. |

El can be more productive than what you saw in pittsburg though, i'm sure of that now. I thought we'd just get one and then a depth guy (like reche caldwell or some such) to round out the bunch. it's a killer to miss on big money guys though. draft busts (outside the top 5) aren't expensive mistakes. yeah you miss on adding talent, but you're only out a draft pick. |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
They just reported on Comcast sportsnet, that Novak is in MD, and he will workout for the Skins noon tomorrow.
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
Here is why I love Novak: one constant in football is, when a kicker nails a gamewinning kick, either in OT or at the end of regulation, and said kick is nulled because of penalty, he always, ALWAYS, misses the second try (unless he missed the first try, then he will usually make the second attempt). Novak nailed two game winners in a row against Seattle last year, defying everything I thought I knew about the laws of football! Good for him!
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
id rather have novak than peterson. seeing peterson's last year state he didnt even attempt a kick over 50 and only tried 4 kicks over 40 yards. we already know hall can hit under 40 yard field goals, we need a guy with a bigger leg, especially for kickoffs
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
get either novak or paul edinger

looking forward to that gem. This is a roster totally void of talent, I know. |

I think JG was convinced Hall was reasonably healthy and was going to be able to make it through the season. However, the time has come when we have to look in a different direction due to the consistency of his nagging injuries. Hall is a veteran kicker and very good when healthy. We know how much JG likes a vet at that position that's why he continued to give him the benefit of the doubt. |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
I think Peterson is the replacement if anyone due to his experience and we all know JG and his veteran fetish.

<<TAF braces himself for the "you don't know football" retort>>
Yes! But we do have newcomers and the statement is as true as it's ever been, rest assured it's not for some of the stepford hogs. |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
i think its time to be done with hall once and for all. I said after the minnesota game that we need to look at kickers. Another overpaid free agent. Thats all hall is. thanks danny

Re: Hall to be replaced?
I'm getting REALLY SICK! of Hall always getting hurt. THey rely on this guy every year, and it seems like most of the time, he's not reliable when it comes to his health. The last thing this team needs right now is not knowing how the kicking game is going to pan out. Ya know, ya just get tired of seeing this stuff every stinking year!!!!!
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
I have to say, Im a bit pissed. Last year when Hall was hurt, and Novak was our kicker, everyone was jumping on that bandwangon and was all about him, and I was just not impressed, and obviously neither is anyone in the NFL, and for us to have to bring him in midseason for a second straight year sets my blood a boiling. I loved Hall, he is consistent, and used to be able to hit fg's from a fairly good distance, but he's hurt AGAIN...and from WHAT...fatigue..are you kidding....you're a f'ing NFL kicker, if you're fatigued by the fifth week you should find another proffession....if we don't bring someone in this next offseason Ill shit my pants..... :madani: (I tried to find a shit-my-pants smilie, but none exists... someone should really get on that)
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
Yes, that's right. And answer me this. Isn't there extensive stretching exercises for the kicker's leg and groin areas they utilize to MAKE SURE they don't pull hammys, groins, muscles, whatever....and hot could this produce "a tired leg' that we've know been told about!!!!!!! I't just sooooo frustrating to hear Hall's going down again.

 That's what I look like before, during and after I crap my pants. Hall's injury prone to be certain. I like Edinger. He's made a couple of decent clutch kicks, including a game-winner against us at Chicago a few years ago. His stats may not be the best in the world but he did kick in Chicago, aka The Windy City. |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
Given Hall's age and his chronic leg problems, I think his career may be done.
My money is on Todd Peterson. |

Re: Hall to be replaced?
Thank God! Hall has been 50-50 from 40+ for years, and I grew tired of seeing his kickoffs (when he was doing it) only get to the 5 or 10 yard line...(setting up our opp with great field position). we are lucky he's out...next target, Brunell...
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
this is one mistake i will hang on the coaching staff. this should have been addressed in the off season. now we are left with a pile of nobodies
|
Re: Hall to be replaced?
It's about time we geta replacement. I'd be happy with Novak OR Peterson. I like Novak better, he's younger and a Terp. :)
Peterson has had a good career. 79.4% on FGs and 99.1% on PATs. His career long is 54 but he's had a ton of kicks over 50. Peterson is 73% from 40-49 yards on his career and 43% from 50+ yards (not bad). He's 36 though, 4 years OLDER than Hall. Hall is 59% career from 40-49 and 46% from 50+ amazingly. That 40-49 yard kick % is ugly though. In Novak's short career, he's 1/1 from 40-49 and has never kicked over 50 yards. 80% (8/10) in FGs and 100% (15/15) in PATs. He should last a LOT longer though. The kid is just 25 years old. |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
I have been a backer of Hall but if this is true its time to part ways. This brings up another question. We where down by two TD's and faced with 4th and short why didn't Gibbs go for the 4th down instead of going for the FG? With him knowing Hall had a tired leg this call is even more questionable now.

Gibbs has always been one to take points over chances. He's never been one to risk 4th-down conversions. That's just how he coaches. Some coaches take chances and fail more often than not, Gibbs has always been conservative when it comes to that. |
Re: Hall to be replaced?
I think this is one player that it's hard to argue needs (and needed) to go. If he can't stay healthy, he isn't much use.
