Re: McNair now a Raven
it was only a matter of time, and it also shows that there is NO loyalty in sports. he was probably the best qb that organization ever had besides moon
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
I wonder how McNair's contract is going to work out for the Ravens...doesn't he have a huge salary this year?
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
Derrick Mason's wearing a big smile, I'll wager.
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
The Ravens just became a serious contender in their division.
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
very true matty, boller was surely not the answer, but with mcnair they have a proven qb finally

They signed him to a new deal. $11M up front, $1M base salary. |

He renegotiated a new contract with the Ravens (it was supposedly done weeks ago after Tenn. gave him permission to shop around). It basically pays him around 13 mill. in bonuses and salary this year. I am not sure how this affects the Titans though. They will have to eat any prorated bonuses left from the original contract. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
All this means is that all the loudmouthed ravens fans in my area are gonna be running their mouths! I can already hear the argument about how McNair is better than Brunell, blah blah blah. Anyone know how their stats compare to each other?
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
Overall, Brunell's stats are a little better and I mean a little. Same completion % and INTs. McNair has more rushing TD's and rushing yards (and Super Bowl appearances).
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
McNair is good but he is always injured... if baltimore's o line plays like they did last year then they will be in some trouble still
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
The Ravens problems may begin with quarterback, but they don't end there. This was a good pickup for this year for them, but I don't see it as a building block toward something special.
Baltimore still has a very tough division to get out of - Pitssburgh and Cincinnati aren't going to be pushovers. This signing means they haven't given up in Baltimore, though. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
That's a lot of money. The Ravens do have an option of extending the contract don't they?
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
This was a good pickup for this year for them.
.
exactly. they are trying to win now. they are still in need of a qb for the future. does this signing remind anyone of the skins a couple of years back? signing players at the end of their careers to try and somehow buy a championship? i wonder how kyle boller feels about losing his job, because there is no way he starts over mcnair. |
i wonder how kyle boller feels about losing his job, because there is no way he starts over mcnair.
Right. This would be one expensive cattle prod if it's supposed to make Boller step up and compete for the starting job |
Re: McNair now a Raven
If Baltimore waits until he is released, they wouldn't have been able to get him ready for week 1. I know he is an upgrade over Boller, but he's not going to be able to grasp the new offense as well as he knew Tennessee's by the time the season rolls around. It will be interesting to see what team does better, McNair's old team, or his new one.

and even Cleveland has made some pretty good moves and seem headed in a good direction. This will help Baltimore but as u said the qb position wasn't the only spot needing some work. It is sad to see a player who gave absolutely every ounce of himself for that organization and they treat him like a pair of worn out socks and r tossing him out in the trash. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
too little, too late. 2 years ago this would have made the ravens legit super bowl contenders. now with mcnair all beat up and baltimores lack of a ground game, this move isnt that big a deal

Good For That Brother........he Deserve To Get His........ I Hope The Titans Fall Of The Face Of The Earth

Good point there! I have some stats here: .....................................Steve McNair......vs...........Mark Brunell Career Passing Yards.............27,141............................30,037 Career TD's............................156.................................174 Career Interceptions................103.................................102 Career Rating.........................83.3................................84.1 Completion Percentage............59.5................................59.4 Career Rushing Yards..............3,439..............................2,399 Career Avg. per Rush................5.6.................................4.8 IMPORTANT: Essentially, they have both played for the SAME number of years. (Brunell sat on the bench for two years with the Packers, so they both began starting the same year) Their stats are very similar, and if you really look at it Mark Brunell looks to be the better overall quarterback (the numbers kind of put Mark Brunell's career into perspective and show how TALENTED a quarterback we actually have) |

You know who really sucks? Michael Vick. Ha!......ladies and gentleman it appears the original composer of Question 3 has returned. Now let's guess what BMF could stand for: "Bag My Fruits"? "Buy More Fish"? "Bring Me Frodo"? what do you all think? |
Re: McNair now a Raven
I don't think the Ravens are going to be a real threat in their division. Adding McNair is more of a bandaid - their receiving corps still sucks, the D struggles and Jamal Lewis is problematic at best.
The bonus to all this is I guess we'll get to see Vince Young play sooner. It's a shame for Young really though, he could have benefited greatly from some tutoring from McNair for a couple of years. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
I guess this means V Young will now play for the Titans? Do they have anyone else ready to step up?

Billy Volek will probably start and they're probably going to sign a vet like Kerry Collins. I doubt they want Young playing this year unless it's due to an emergency. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
cool deal. mcnair.
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
Ok guys, here is something to ponder for all of those media types that say the Skins spend too much money. I live close to Nashville and was listening to one of their Sports talk shows this morning. They said that McNair will still count $14 million on this years cap for the Titans. Are you kidding me!!!!!! I want to here what Peter King has to say about that. Or you Lenny. I don't know if the Skins have ever made a decision that dumb. The funny thing is, if the Titans did not trade him, they were going to have to pay like $25 million or something to him this year!!!! Geez!
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
If he can somehow manage to stay healthy, he'll be great for the Ravens.
They needed a QB more than any other team in the league, except maybe the Jets. Kyle Boller looks like Patrick Ramsey, Jr. Plays like a rookie QB every year. Anthony Wright is good on occasions, but he's no full-time starter. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
mcnairs gonna help the ravens greatly improve respectability in the league
mcnairs gonna help the ravens greatly improve respectability in the league
Well, they'll be better but still not very good. They share a division with the Steelers and Bengals. They need more help than at QB, their whole offense was a disaster last year and Chester Taylor went to the Vikings, leaving no real backup for Jamal Lewis. On defense, they're aging and slowing down and are no longer the force they used to be. He'll help them pick up a few more wins IF he stays healthy, but he's no savior for them. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
McNair makes the Ravens a .500 team at least. In the 2nd toughest division in football they'll need to catch some breaks to rise higher, but he's certainly a HUGE improvement over Boller and now gives them a QB other teams have to respect. This could also prove to be huge for Lewis, as he won't face as many stacked defensive fronts.
I think McNair has 2-3 more quality seasons in him assuming he can stay healthy. I don't see much to not like about this move by the Ravens. |

Re: McNair now a Raven
I hate the Ravens, but man, what a great move
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
The problem is, their O-line is getting old/bad and McNair has become an injury risk. If they can't keep the blitz from getting to him he won't last the whole season.
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
That being said, I do think it's a good move for them. Maybe if I decide to draft Derrick Mason again this year he won't suck.
|
Re: McNair now a Raven
McNair won't play out his 5-year deal with the Ravens. I think he'll be finished in 2 years.
I was saying he should retire LAST year. He's just too banged up to be the QB he once was, and in a few more hits, he'll be too banged up to be a QB at all. |
Re: McNair now a Raven
Because I hate the Ravens, I hope that McNair can't play out his contract and that the 11 million dollar bonus bites them in the ass. I don't want McNair crippled or in any way permanently injured but just something that stops him from playing.
Of course, no one is saying that they overpaid for a player who has been consistently injured the past 2 years and will be playing behind a bad line. |
