Sorta like Hegseth’s “Nazi” tattoos?
Yeah, let’s talk about a “self confessed” Nazi https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/20/paul-ingrassia-racist-text-messages-nazi-00613608?utm_content=flipboard/magazine/104T+HOLDING+PEN&utm_source=flipboard Paul Ingrassia, President Donald Trump’s embattled nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel, told a group of fellow Republicans in a text chain the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday should be “tossed into the seventh circle of hell” and said he has “a Nazi streak,” according to a text chat viewed by POLITICO. |

Furloughed fed says she's standing in Maryland food bank line after 21 years in military “I’ve not been in this predicament ever," one woman said. "[...] The reason I wanted to become a federal government employee was stability. That stability, that rug, if you will, has been snatched away from us." The Capital Area Food Bank began free food distributions for federal workers and contractors on Tuesday in Hyattsville. With an hour to go before food was handed out, a long line of people waited for help. Federal workers told News4 how tough it’s been to not get paid but still need to pay their bills. Some wanted to show their faces on camera, and some did not. One federal employee said she was dismayed to need to ask for help for the first time. “I’ve not been in this predicament ever. I served 21 years in the military. I’ve been a federal government employee for the past two years. The reason I wanted to become a federal government employee was stability. That stability, that rug, if you will, has been snatched away from us,” she said. Furloughed federal worker Shimere Cooper also lined up. “It’s pretty difficult. You’re trying to figure out how you’re going to pay your bills, eat, but we have to make a way. That’s why I’m here today,” she said. |

While I am not familiar with a totenkopf if he does indeed have one it should be eliminating IMO. Personally I think the far bigger issue that I read is his tattoo was vetted three times by government agencies that checks for extremist, sexist and racist tattoos; the US Marines, the Army National Guard and the State Department and yet he was allowed to have those jobs. |

Some people think a particular image may look cool and want it inked. You think everybody deeply researches the images they tattoo on their body? Now, if the guy has the swastika up there, well then that's a bit different. "The tattoo appears to resemble the Totenkopf - German for "death's head". This statement is not about things above, this is regarding the hypocrisy. IMO, this is the main source of many issues we see nowadays. Granted, Republicans' hypocrisy is a little more noticeable compared to Democrats, but both parties are guilty of the hypocrisy. Both parties are literally pointing each other for doing the exactly same things without taking any meaningful actions to remedy those issues stemming from their own parties. |

Yeah if only the Republicans could some how have more control of the federal government right? Funny how Mike Johnson refused to bring republicans back to DC to negotiate or even considered a bill to fund salaries separately then advance a total budget. But sure it’s the dems

Mike Johnson passed the house bill. The democrats have a clean spending resolution which they are filibustering effectively shutting down the government. It’s really that simple |
Re: Trump 2.0 Administration Golden Years
A clean bill? Hardly. Proposing a bill that you know is DOA in the Senate is not doing your job. He could've easily have sent a bill that would've been approved in the Senate but chose not to. That is on him

I mean we have learned since third grade in civics class that the two parties have to compromise to pass a bill right? I am sure that a bill can be negotiated that would get the handful of senators needed to pass a bill. The easiest thing would be for Johnson to cut the spending in everything already in the bill and agree to ACA subsidies. A real simple, cheap and ernest compromise. Both parties unhappy but getting something they want. |

Not only that, but apparently some people voted Trump because he is supposedly the best businessman in the world who is adept at negotiating. This government shutdown has pretty much cancel out that claim. |

The Republicans control the Senate and the rules of the Seanate. They changed to rules several times for Trump's appointments and for SCOTUS judges. They could change the rules for this too, but they want to use this as an excuse to blame Dems even though they control ALL the power. They dont' even need to compromise. All the Senate has to do is to nuke the filibuster and pass the legislation THEY want. That's how it should be. They nuked the filibuster for SCOTUS judges and for allowing mass appointments from Trump. They can change it for this. |

Come on now it was the Dems that nuked the filibuster on judges and appointees, McConnel warned them that they were making a massive mistake that would bite them sooner that they thought. And it did bite them less them less than 14 months later when the GOP added the SC nominees to the filibuster exclusion. Fortunately, the filibuster on legislation was saved by Sinema who learned the lesson the rest of her follow party members failed to learn, and preserved the filibuster for legislative actions. The Dems reward for her was to be vilified and discarded by the Dems. As bad as MAGA has been can you imagine if the filibuster was not in place what MAGA would do??? My question is have the rest of the Dems learned not to screw around with the filibuster or are they still going to kill it when they are back in power? |

It’s really that simple.
Bud, the 60 vote threshold for cloture came about in 1975. This isn't some grand historic rule that the forefathers instituted. The filibuster has changed (along with SCOTUS numbers) throughout the years. It's NOT a good thing. It allows the Dems and the Republicans to use this shit to blame the other side why shit can't get done. "We would pass all this nice legislation but these meanies (insert D/R) won't assist us!" Bottom line. Those that control the power should pass the legislation THEY want, not what the minority party wants. Now if the other party controls the other branch (House/WH) then obviously compromises have to happen. One more thing, this 60 vote nonsense also excuses the voters for their shitty choices in elections. They should feel the consequences of their votes. I'm in favor of getting rid of the filibuster whether the Dems or the Republicans control it. |

My question is have the rest of the Dems learned not to screw around with the filibuster or are they still going to kill it when they are back in power?
You are leaving some details and context out here. The Dems removed the filibuster on lower court judges because Mitch McConnell was essentially grinding the appointments for Obama judges to a halt. Reid removed it so these appointments could be passed. Whether right or wrong is dependent on what side you are defending. However, Mitch took it a step further once they got in control with a (R) president and removed the filibuster on SCOTUS judges, which personally I'm fine with. Spoiler Alert: Mitch would have done this regardless if Reid removed it on the lower courts or not. Mitch has only cared about stacking the courts in (R) favor. He thinks that's going to be his legacy, but it most certainly is not. Bottom line. A 60 vote filibuster favors the Republicans and not the Democrats. Why you ask? Tell me what transformative legislation has the Republicans tried to pass in the past 30 years? Infrastructure? Nope. Gun Safety? Nope. Health Care? Nope. Reproductive Rights? Nope. Immigration Reform? Nope. The ONLY thing Republicans care about nowadays is giving rich people tax cuts and they don't need 60 votes for that. They do that through reconciliation. They used this for the Big Beautiful Bill, which is going to cut medicare and other benefits. https://taxfoundation.org/research/all/federal/trump-tax-cuts-2025-budget-reconciliation/ This is why they want it kept around. Dems should end it the first chance they get. Hopefully Trump will push the Senate into removing the filibuster. It would be the gift Dems have needed in a long ass time. |
