Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
I would say a lot more is needed at the linebacker level. Cole Holcomb is fine as a depth guy but I'd like a lot more athleticism at that position. Covering the Zach Ertz's and Evan Engram's of the world takes some serious speed. Reuben Foster helps a lot there but I need a lot more at LB. If Cole Holcomb is one of your opening day starters I think you've given the opposing offense an area to attack with a game plan built around an athletic tight end.
If the rams don’t tag him, I would go after Cory Littleton ILB. |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Holcomb is not slow. Also, he was a rookie last season; he'll get better.
Foster is a big concern. He isn't close to being able to play yet and there's no way to know if he'll be able to play at the same level when he returns. If he recovers fully, he should make a big difference at LB. I think Anderson could surprise as a LB. He is a good football player. I think we have a chance to be good at LB without adding anyone but I'd love to add more talent at LB in the draft, at least.
Will Compton was 6'1, 238 pounds, and ran a 4.52 at the combine. Holcomb is 6'1, 231 pounds, and ran a 4.51 at the combine. I agree he'll get better and he'll of course get stronger. But Compton got exposed in coverage and so will Holcomb in 1-1 matchups against good TEs. It might not be a speed issue, either, it could be a matter of quicks and lack of length. He's got good instincts and can knife in occasionally to the ballcarrier. But he can't shed blocks and will struggle against bigger TEs who have speed. Don't get me wrong, he can contribute, but I think guys like them serve well in depth roles. I want my LBs longer and more athletic to keep up with today's TEs. |

I agree with you 100%, We don't know what we are getting with Foster if he even plays, a mid round guy (3rd) round guy I like is Patrick Queen out of LSU if he lasts that long, he is in that Deion Jones mold, fast, athletic, can run with TEs. If he is there I would definitely take a long look at him. |

His tape is making him move up the ranks IMO, which sucks. There are a few Free agent options tho.. 1. Blake Martinez (very good in coverage) 2. Cory Littleton (same as Blake) 3. Hasson Reddick (good all around athlete) |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
I like our prospects...Cole, SDH and Ryan Anderson...Foster leg is a problem tho.
Ryan Anderson as a SAM looks like a natural fit. |

Plus, he's strong and tough. If I had a vote on Redskins FA's I'd say go for Blake! |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
still need 1 more Safety to replace Montae but that can be done. Another CB wouldn't hurt either
They’ll go for FS and/or CB in FA. These positions will also be addressed in the draft with their lower picks. With Kyle Smith’s recent record, we may get some help in the lower draft picks or UDFA! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
To trade down I wouldn’t want to go below the 5th pick. To take the trade I would need Miami to tell us who they’re moving up for. If they say Tu’a then I entertain the offer because we’d get Isaiah Simmons or Andrew Thomas, assuming Chase Young goes 3 to Detroit. But I think I’d need a sweetener beyond the 5th, 18th, and 26th honestly. If they throw in a 2nd in 2021 then it’s probably at the point where I can’t refuse it.
If Miami won’t tell us who they want at 2, then I don’t continue listening. I’d want to be assured of Chase Young, Isaiah Simmons, or Andrew Thomas. No matter what I make all suitors sweat it out and I don’t take a deal until I’m on the clock. This is honestly the way we need to think about the impact Young could have for us. PFF has never graded a college pass rusher this high. He’s their highest graded yet. The value of that is just so enormous. Khalil Mack goes to the Bears, massive improvement on defense year 1. Von Miller goes to Denver, wins a Super Bowl. Nick Bosa goes to SF, they make the Super Bowl. The pass rusher isn’t solely responsible but we have cap space, we can solve other problems. It takes an epic haul to turn down Chase Young.
Yep, that's why I'm all in for The Predator. One stud ER paired with the rest of an already stacked D-Line will make the defense a nightmare. And if Chicago had some semblance of an offense the Mack trade would have gotten them a lot further into the playoffs. At least he is terrorizing Erin Rodgers and The Packrats twice a year. |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Why not try to have our cake and eat it to?
Teams are going to go CRAZY for Tua as the draft approaches and the only away a team can guarantee getting him is to trade up to 2. So, if someone offers us a HAUL, then lets take it. But it doesn't mean we can't also get Young. We could trade back up with Detroit to draft Chase. Since we'd be trading up to 3 and not selecting a QB, the market would dictate that we not have to give up nearly as much as we acquired in moving out of 2. Sure, it would be risky as someone could always outbid us for Detroit's spot or they could just decide to take Tua, so there is risk there. But its also possible we could end up netting Chase Young (at 3) AND another first (or multiple later picks). |

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
We either take Chase Young at #2 or BEST CASE we end up with Miami’s #5 and #18 and maybe their #26 ( in a perfect universe). The #5 gets us Isiah Simmons ( the second best defensive player in the draft) or Andrew Thomas (best OT). The likelihood of this scenario is low. Teams are going to trade with Detroit not us. But it’s ok to dream.
Frankly, I dream of Chase chasing Carson Wentz into Sweat’s arms. [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
I think if Chase is still there at 2 I’ll be surprised. This guy is THAT dominant.
If the Bengals take Chase it’s easy ... We don’t have the OLBs for a 4-3. No real mic MLB. No head honcho like Rivera had in Kuechly .. no coverage LB like Shaq Thompson or Thomas Davis. We have no LB like that at all. We’re all DLine right now. Which is good .. but it’s just a foundation. I also don’t trust the secondary game to game. FS imo is wide open and it’s not even mentioned. I’m over average we can better almost anywhere. Yea. Yea WR too of course. OL is obvious. But we need TWO hybrid 4-3 LBs. MLB. OLB. One WR to pair with Terry. Tackle. FS or CB. Someone to help that unit. |
Teams are going to trade with Detroit not us.
This is completely incorrect thinking. If a team trades with Detroit, then another team can still jump ahead of them and trade with us to get Tua. Any team that REALLY wants TUA (even Detroit, if they wanted him) is going to have to trade up to 2. We might say NO, but the teams who are truly serious about Tua will be coming to us. |
