You would see it that way... again, not surprised at all. |
Gee whiz, what a shock. I’m sorry that sound so cruel but your constant defense of such behavior must be routed in something personal.
Yes, I am very critical of bad behavior. But behavior (unless you are psychotic) is a choice and times I have had a overwhelming feelings of rage but the only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to know that ACTING on our emotions in this way is wrong and should not be tolerated. The constant rationalization of criminal behavior may not explain why it happens but it certainly explains why it happens so often. I know you will ignore this or worse, turn it in to some sort of justification for your position, but maybe someday the light will go on for you, good luck.
Ha, you are a real piece of work. I too believe violence towards women is unacceptable. I'm just trying to teach you a few things young padawan... Smart judgements you cannot make with knowing first all of the facts. Mathis' girlfriend moved out of the state and dropped all the charges. If I'm going to take someone's word on this incident it is hers. I'm not going to try to be Sherlock Holmes and piece together how I think it all went down. And the example I gave above was NOT criminal behavior but a situation where a female can fabricate or embelish a situation for personal gain... There of course is the opposite end of the spectrum where a woman is in a violent relationship which is absolutely deplorable and in need of immediate attention from the authorities. However, we cannot be so quick to convict in the court of public opinion. Especially 1000 miles away, a month later after reading an article. |
Man..this "common law" wife must have amazing powers to convert her imagination into physical choke marks on her neck...what a bee-och....either that or she asked a friend to choke her to make marks or her neck so she could drag this guys name in the mud.....and then decline charging him.
So was she struck, or choked? Some people aren't getting the point that it might not be 100% accurate. At this point, no one really knows. If he did it, I don't want him. But have we NEVER heard of some woman making up a story???? (not saying she is, just saying) You also can't tell me that a girl 6 months pregnant isn't hormonal either. At this point, its A- a 1 time incident, B- no real proof, C- unsure of how "red marks on neck" is being "struck", D- please provide a picture of the red marks so we can all see it as something that wasn't a hickey or a curling iron incident...or even a birth mark. Then maybe we can make a more accurate judgement. Right now, it's all hearsay and quite frankly I am concerned about people's insistance on being the judge and jury in this case, and ready to kick him out. |
Re: Jerome Mathis signed
I think a point that hasn't been mentioned yet, is that at his age, Mathis still has the whole immaturity excuse. You don't often see this kind of thing happening to vets, it's often the guys younger than 25.
Now that he's a Redskin, and he's near the psychological full maturity age, we have a chance to see if the past is really, actually behind him, or if he's just a full blown turd. If it's the latter, he won't have a long stay here. Now, from a football perspective, I'm not sure what they see in him that makes him worth the trouble of a 2nd chance. It's a no risk contract, but he's also had his most valuable returner years elsewhere, and though he's really fast, that doesn't make him a good receiver. This is a low risk, low reward move, and hopefully, he doesn't put the team through the minor inconvenience of releasing him for off field reasons. |
Wow, and it gets worse. Sean T didn't choke his girlfriend... he was defending HIS stolen property (and was caught up in the process)... kind of like he was defending his family when he was KILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!! To use ST as a comparison to this guy? Are you kidding me???? He loved his girlfriend AND his daughter!!! Not to mention the love we all feel for him as a Redskin??
Go have a few drinks with some others on this board that seem to share your opinion. You guys can have your fun. I've seen and heard quite enough.... Ciao.
This person was replying to a post that said something like the Skins should not tolerate players that gets arrested for DUI or violence which ST was arrested for both. I thought the same thing when I read that persons post. I don't think he was comparing what ST did vs Mathis. I'm not sure how people can convict Mathis of anything because no one here knows the facts. All we know is that he had an argument with the women, the cops came and he was arrested because she had a small red mark on her neck. I myself cannot bring judgment on him from those facts. |

Again, he's had two run-ins with the law and a fight with a teammate. |
Re: Jerome Mathis signed
Back to just the pure personnel aspect for a moment, I'm disappointed we didn't make a stronger run at DJ Hackett. JLC reports that he got $750k to sign with Carolina and he could earn a maximum of $3.5M over 2 years. I don't know about anyone else but to me that seems like a pretty reasonable deal. I hope that non-move on our part doesn't come back to haunt us.

Yeah I totally agree. I would have paid DJ Hackett a couple million a year, personally. I don't know how you can pass on a sizeable WR who has shown the ability to take over games when healthy and who is familiar with Zorn's offense. It's one thing if the Panthers gave him $8 million to sign or something. But I mean, what the hell? |
Re: Jerome Mathis signed
Yeah when I saw that I was like shoot, couldn't we have given him $1M to sign and maybe $4M to $5M over 2 years?
I would have felt pretty good about our WR situation then and we could have addressed other needs in the draft. Now it seems pretty clear that we'll use a pick on a WR at some point in the draft. |

On the other hand, how many coaches out there know him better than Zorn? And if he didn't make a huge push for Hackett did we really miss out? That said, I would have also taken a chance on Hackett for such a relatively small sum. |

But it's almost like we've gone from blindly writing checks to blindly passing on all free agents. I realize I'm oversimplifying. But passing on Hackett at that price didn't make a lot of sense. Yes he's been hurt some. But to my knowledge, he's not hurt now. He knows the offense. He's a decent size. And he cost as much as Pete Kendall. Pete Kendall, people. For a guy that has put up several 100 yard games, and if he can stay on the field, could put up a 1000 yard season. Seems we could have 3 solid WR heading into the draft. We would have gotten the perfect #2 option, allowing ARE to move into the slot. Then we could have gone for the offensive and defensive lines in the first three rounds, maybe a S, maybe a CB. We would have been better off. |

That said, I would have also taken a chance on Hackett for such a relatively small sum.
You're right, maybe Zorn knows something. But I can't imagine what that would be given that Hackett recently put up over 100 yards and a TD on our secondary in the playoff game against Seattle last year. I mean how much can you "know" about a guy? At some point, doesn't performance say everything that needs to be said about a guy? I guess that's my thing, it's one thing if a coach is weighing in about an unproven commodity. But Hackett has taken over games before. As long as he's not a malcontent, then go get him. Who knows, maybe he was a malcontent in Seattle. And if that's the case, good job in passing on him. Of course, at the same time, WTF are we doing passing on Hackett for being a malcontent and then turning around and signing Mathis? That makes no sense. So if you're not concerned about Mathis being trouble, you couldn't have been concerned about Hackett being trouble. You just flat out dropped the ball and didn't bring him in for a good price. |

Seattle could've made a push for him too. He has been injured before this year, maybe they don't have faith in him holding up. Maybe they have someone else targeted (June 1 cut / trade). This will be one of the first decisions we can judge Cerrato & Zorn on depending which way it goes. |
Again, he's had two run-ins with the law and a fight with a teammate.
We're probably beating a dead horse here, but what 2 run ins are you referring to. Like I said in a previous post, I don't know much about this guy, so any link would be beneficial. Also, getting in a fight with a teammate is nothing new, and nothing to make a comment about unless he drove to a players house after a practice to beat the poo out of him. Remember Michael Westbrook beating down Stephen Davis? I don't recall Westbrook being of poor character, just poor talent. Vince Young had issue with someone this past year and had a little fight, and a lot here think he's a kiss from heaven. Even Favre in his early days had a scuffle with a teammate and he is known as player friendly. What happens during heated practices / matches doesn't always mean a character flaw. I will 100% agree beating a girldfriend is a character flaw, but there seems to be so little evidence at this point. I need it pointed out that I am not defending this guy, but I do think you need to PROVE guilt before slurring someone's name. This is not like speculating Barry Bonds took steriods, this is something far more serious. There needs to be proof, and right now, there is a red mark on a neck, and no real proof. But like I said, I'd like to see a link to his previous run ins with the law if you got them please. |
