Re: Skins vs Packers post game thread

I'm going to remain positive and say it's only two games. I'm not jumping to any conclusions about the defense being worse or better after just two games. It's a long season and the defense could turn out to be better than we think. In fact, I think it will. I've been hard on Orakpo for two years and haven't seen anything this year to change my mind.

In fact, I still stand by earlier comment that the defense played well (early on) vs Green Bay.

So regardless what the facts (missing hella tackles, letting QB set records, giving an avg of over 200 yards rushing, YAC totals that make me physically yack) your gonna stick with the defense played well?

Yep.

No seriously, we were getting after it for a solid quarter then the game just got away from us. I'm not ready to write off this defense by any stretch of the imagination.

I have faith the D can turn it around, they did it last year with some key guys out, but facts are facts. The D has been straight up ass so far.
I have to think that if Gregg Williams was running this defense, we would not be this bad. But I still think it's a talent issue. Some of the guys we have just aren't that good... Wilson, Fletcher, Cofield, Bowen, Goldston, Orakpo, Rambo, Doherty...these players are just not very good or not playing up to their capabilities. And father time has slapped Fletcher upside the head. He look so slow out there the last two weeks.
Would take Gregg Williams in a heartbeat over this defense, even now with his tarnished reputation. But realistically it'd never work. Shanny has been through a million D coordinators and doesn't get along with anyone. I think Haslett has kept his job because not many guys would work with Mike so who do you replace Haslett with?

I don't think I have ever seen a worse tackling team in my entire life. I understand that the rookies are probably going to miss some tackles, but it's not just them, it's everybody and I cannot put my finger on how, all of a sudden, this team forgets to tackle.

Defense is on the field first, they need to set the tone. 7 minute 80 yard TD drive to start the game is not setting any kind of tone

I dont understand our D, we get pressure on the QB but then we dont.. Kerrigan was great the first series and then he was gone..

Once the Packers went to a quick hitting passing game it killed our rush effectiveness.

I just dont think Stafford will shred us like AR did and if u remember right, Vick really didn't kill us it was shady

...and then we failed to adjust. Our DBs gave huge cushions, never jammed GB receivers.

Will we see any kind of improvement at least with stopping the run game when we get our guys back from suspension?

I see that as an element that is part of the problem.

I don't think Shanahan is going to have to worry about who his DC is going to be. He's not going to survive this if the team keeps playing this poorly.

Don't hear a lot about Wr's not getting seperation, Holes not as big for Alf, Int OL getting crushed without Read Option.. Talk about that

With all the talk about RGIII, I feel some valid points are brought up here. It's not just RGIII that's struggling.

Agreed. If the team continues to look uninspired, unprepared and play undisciplined football I think Shanny should hit the road mid year, but regardless this should be his last season unless we see huge improvement across the board. The succession plan has become a complete joke, given Kyle's apparent lack of rapport with RG and almost total inability scheme anything beyond the RO or what we saw with McNabb, Rex, Beck. This is such a vanilla unless RG is running with his hair on fire. Time to move on. Just think of the quality coaches we've missed on the last few years between Harbaugh, Pete Carol, Reid.

Hell, I'd take John Gruden just for his positivity and sideline energy at this point. This team is dead right now. Sad to watch.

Team Speed on defense doesn't look good now, contributing to the missed tackles and the YaC stat.

QB always gets the blame. Sure those things are occurring, but there are better QBs with worse players around them who still find ways to perform. QB is always a position that deserves and gets atleast 25% of the blame.

I know the perfect D Coordinator for this team, but sadly he works for the Jets still.

Nope. Regardless of my intense dislike for the classless Ryan brothers, this town ain't big enough for the egos of M Shanahan and Ryan. That's saying something.

Well, I know he can fix our defense. When he was with the Ravens he did good with Harbaugh who has more bite than Shanahan. I perfectly understand and agree that their ego's would clash, but at the same time when two guys are desperate to win with the same goal in mind, maybe they both bite the bullet. Hell Sean Payton bit the bullet and gave up a portion of his salary to sign Gregg Williams, and they clashed a few times, but they won the super bowl, then went their separate ways.

Re: Skins vs Packers post game thread

Rex would be a good solution for the defense.

I would not want him running the club. Unless we keep KS, which would be highly improbable.

That's not what I want though, I want these guys to figure out what they have to fix and ..... Fix It! … Fix it! …[from the Saturday Night Live skit]

Exactly, some of the folks in here don't want to put any blame on the coaching, but sorry, if a team comes out looking like crap in two consecutive games, poor preparation on the practice field and in the tape room and planning sessions are to blame as much as execution. With the exception of the two rook DBs, we basically have the same team. They are professionals and obviously know how to play football as they are the defending divisional champs. If the problem is our diva QB, then the HC benches his ass. Right now this kid might just end up a big of a bust as Shuler was if he doesn't get his act together. Shanahan has to man up and take control of the team. Damn I wish we could find another George Allen type or Ditka type that wouldn't stand for a diva.

JoeRedskin 09-17-2013 11:57 PM

Now RGIII's a diva? Oh dear God ... the insanity!

We got in a discussion of Shanny and coaching during the game. A few other posters did have the balls to call him a diva, so I am following suit.

In the end it might not be big enough for the egos of Mike Shanahan and RG III!

Re: Skins vs Packers post game thread

What's the definition of diva in this instance? If it refers to RG doing plethora commercials for Subway, Gatorade etc., while Andrew luck has seem more focused on his football career, then I agree. Peyton can get away with it because he's got a ring and because he's the most prepared guy on the field. Oh and the hall of fame.

RG should focus on football from now until he holds up the Lombardi. Problem is, he probably knows it's not happening anytime soon, for reasons outside his control, but he still needs to do the right thing.
