You tell them it’s the patrons of a restaurant, the consumers of a good, or the workers of a factory that allow a business to prosper. Re: 2012 Presidential Election (free for all edition)
I read this yesterday and thought it was pretty interesting:
Why Obama’s Transcripts Matter - By Greg Pollowitz - Media Blog - National Review Online I dont care about Obama's transcripts any more than Romney's tax returns. I really dont see what the big deal is or why people want to see Romney's last taxes soooooo badly. But i think he needs to end the whole thing by definitively stating he's not showing any more of his financial naked self. And say thats it, lets talk about the issues. It may bring some heat initially but it wont be a huge thing come the election. Keeping the issue going is making it worse. I posted the above link because it was a pretty simular thing, albiet less reported and scrutinized. I dont think Romeny should say ill release my taxes if he releases his transcripts, because that sounds childish. But maybe in a joking manor say something like” "We all enjoy some privacy. Obama didnt release his college transcripts when America hired him, im not going to release my tax returns just to be manipulated and graded by others. My tax returns and Obama’s transcripts have nothing to do with our policies. I tell you what, if Obama releases his transcripts, ill release my tax returns, but neither of us have anything to hide, we just want to retain a sense of privacy" |
Re: 2012 Presidential Election (free for all edition)
Mlmpert,
It's a ridiculous comparison for so many reasons. Of what possible relevance are the grades that Barack Obama got at Occidental, Columbia, or Harvard Law School to judging his time in office and whether he deserves to be re-elected? What would it reveal about his presidency that we don't already know? There's nothing relevant that impacts policy or are on voters minds. The only possible reason is to embarrass the candidate. That's it. It's also worth noting, never before has a sitting U.S. president or candidate for president released his college transcripts. Not one. Not ever. He's been president for four years, move on. Romney's taxes, however, are a different matter. Whether he releases them or not won't, I say let the public judge. In my opinion the public deserves to see more than two years of taxes from the man applying for Commander-in-Chief. |

Re: 2012 Presidential Election (free for all edition)
I guess i dont really see who Mitt's tax returns impact his policy? And while Mitt's taxes are on voter's minds right now im sure Obama's transcripts were also on many voter's minds in 2008 and may still be. To me Mitt's taxes and Obama's transcripts are both akin to how much that hot girl in the office weighs. I may want to know and if she wants to tell me ill listen, but no matter what the number is i feel like it could only be used to embarrass her.
I just dont care and i dont think the public should. Obama was the person to primarly bring all this on Romney so maybe Romney should fire back lightly. Either way he he needs to end this whole this asap one way or another. |
Re: 2012 Presidential Election (free for all edition)
Well I can tell you that Romney's taxes are on voters minds and the latter is not. More and more prominent Republicans are calling on Romney to release more taxes each day.
The National Review George Will Bill Kristol Gov. Alabama Michael Steele Pete Sessions Gov. Haley Barbour Matthew Dowd Brit Hume David Frum Rep Pete Sessions Sen Chuck Grassley Sen Dick Lugar Mike Murphy No one outside of Donald Trump and Michele Malkin are really interested in the president's college transcripts. The issue with Romney's taxes and his business dealings were raised by his opponents during the primaries. Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul all raised the issue. This isn't the president's doing. |

The gov't doesn't come up with inventive or more productive ideas (sometimes defense R & D has made breakthoughs....but Obama and the Ds are ready to hammer defense spending). Just like the idiots that wanted Obama to show this and that the people who really want to see Mitt's taxes are moreso the people who arnt voting for him regardless. 2) He saw what happened to Obama in 2008. We all know if you give a mouse a cookie, hes gonna ask for a glass of milk. Releaseing his taxes wont satisfy the mice that are asking for them any more than the mice who realized they wanted a glass of milk after seeing XYZ documentation from Obama. If it was a year ago, 6 months ago, maybe even 3 months ago i would say show them your returns. At this point in the game i think it serves as just too much of a detraction for him to reveal them. Mitt doesnt file e-file a 1040EZ, his entire return is hundereds maybe even a thousand pages long. And 10 years of returns to nitpick through will just open more questions. Whats this K1, we want to its tax return too. Whats this trust income we want to see its tax return too. And so on. 3) A big problem many people have with Mitt is that hes wishy washy. He's waaayyyy too nice, has no backbone, and never gets mad. At first he was saying "i think" ive released enough in the nice guy Mitt kind of way. Nows hes being a little more adament. If he backtracks from this its just another thing he backtracks from. He needs to hold his ground. My thoughts are i dont really care if Mitt shows additonal tax returns or not as its inconsequential to his policy. But i dont really care one way or another. My thoughts are more along the lines of if i were in Mitt's billion dollar business man's loafers i wouldnt show my tax returns because its gonna hurt more than its gonna help. If you were to ask me should Romney release his tax returns for the good of the counrty? My reasoning might be a little different, but if i thought Mitt was better for the country than Obama my answear would be the same. Unfortunitly this is just one of the thigns we get with our current 2 party system. Political jestering in many cases is more important than policy. |

If he had no qualms about giving 10 years worth of tax returns to McCain for VP consideration, why does he care now? Ever think that was a huge reason McCain didn't choose him? He's flat out said that Palin was a better running mate than Romney. Not sure you can get lower than that. :laughing-

I heard Nancy Pelosi say on Friday that the tax returns are no longer an issue and should be considered a petty distraction. Why the huge change of opinion? Someone asked to see hers. I wish he'd release them. We'd see how he gives about a third of his money to charity so we could contrast with the $600 total that Joe Biden gave...probably similar from the President and Speaker of the House. |
