We had one of the Zendejas guys didn't we? Didn't they wear number 1 as well?
Ok, so here's a trivia question. And I dont know the answer. Who were the last Redskins to wear #28 before Green, #44 before Riggins, and #81 before Monk? |
how much of your monthly bandwidth did we just eat up, matty?
|
Remember the "glory" days when Reggie Roby was our best player? Sigh, no offense to punters but when a punter is your best player you know your team sucks
|
If I'm not mistaken I believe Dave Kopay wore 44 many years prior.

Especially in this humidity. I'm sweating just looking at it! Hot hot hot! Don't mind the scrub part. I yam what I yam! |
81 before Monk.... Mack Alston, TE

Damn....I missed a chance to clean up on some posts and finally get the blue cap off.
DBB: Great research
Thanks, though I didn't do squat. I can get into some great sources of info... my mom is a sports writer for a newspaper. |
Not to push the competition, just to answer the question, you can get that info on www.extremeskins.com - just go to the PLAYERS screen, enter a player number, and they will all display
|
what number are we down too?
|
But old players I entered did not come from there. Mostly came from memory, and some from some old dog-eared programs I have from the 60's and 70's.
|
Did this officially end? If not!!!!
00 Johnny Olszewski - I finally found out how to spell his name LOL |

I didn't see the ExtremeSkins one, but in looking at it now, it's probably the exact same source. I was pulling mine from a massive sports almanac she uses in her office for fact checking. The ones I entered during the 99-1 sprint were all from memory.. either my own in seeing them play or remember them from being quizzed as a kid by my mom and grandfather (thus Cliff Battle) about who's number was who's. I'm a third generation Skins fan! |
I have last years media guide and it lists Olsewski as 0
it lists Steve Bagarus, a HB from 1945-46 as 00 |
Just a few names and #'s I would like to add that might have been missed. At least at a quick glance at the list I did not see them:
#83 & #46 Ricky Sanders #77 Daryl Grant - DT #97 Jumpy Geathers - DT #72 Diron Talbert - DT #60 Fred Stokes - DE #79 Ron McDole - DE #63 Fred Dean - OG #69 R. C. Thielemann #20 Joe "the bird" Lavender - great CB #24 Lemar Parrish - another great CB #41 Mike Bass -only redskin to score in SB 7 #45 Jeris White - CB in SB 17 team #22 Curtis Jordan - FS #80 Roy Jefferson WR #89 Alvin Garret WR #30 Nick Giaquinto - H-back #38 Clarence Harmon - RB #40 Wilbur Jackson - RB |
Nice list, DWins. Can't believe I forgot Joe Lavender. Now anyone remember what Cosell called #89 Alvin Garrett?
|
"boy, that little monkey can fly!"
|
I'm glad someone else remembers Rickey Sanders #83
|
That game was fun to watch, You guys burnt through that fast.
|
"boy, that little monkey can fly!"
LOL!!!! That's the one! |
damn, I dont have a computer for a few days and you guys go haywire on posts, lol. Only other time ive ever seen so many posts was on draft day.
|
22 Sultan McCullough
Nobody mentioned my favorite #22 Mike Thomas. |
To think,
To think, I remember watching Herb Mul-Key from NONE University, Moses Denson from the Canadian FB league, and Ken Barefoot from here in Chesapeake Va!

Yeah, but it made my head hurt... |
To think, I remember watching Herb Mul-Key from NONE University, Moses Denson from the Canadian FB league, and Ken Barefoot from here in Chesapeake Va!
Herb Mul-Key, wow, I remember him. He was a great kick return man. Mike Nelms and Brain Mitchell continued the tradition of great Redskins return men and great special teams play. We seemed to lose that tradition after Gibbs left in 1993. Herb Mul-Key's early 70's team is when I became a Redskins fan as a small kid...or at least my earliest memories of being a Redskins fan. I think that is why I am partial to that years uniforms and helmet. Even though most fans find the yellow pants the most unattractive of all, I like them. Charlie Haraway, Jerry Smith, Pat Fischer, Larry Brown, Sonny and Billy, Diron Talbert...etc. Man, that team was good and had a lot of characters on it. |
none of those names mean anything to me, except Mitchell of course. Of course I was born in 82 so that would explain it.
are any skins number officially retired? |
none of those names mean anything to me, except Mitchell of course. Of course I was born in 82 so that would explain it.
are any skins number officially retired?
Only one number is officially retired... Sammy Baugh's #33. There was talk last year that there will probably be one more, maybe this season. Mr. Green's #28. |
DefenseWins, WOW, I had forgotten all about Mul-Key. Yeah, he was real good on the returns for a while. I guess Mitchell has to be considered the greatest of our kick returners, but Nelms was definitely my favorite. Amazing guy. Just refused to fair catch, period. And always seemed to hold onto the ball and make something happen.

Hogskin, you're right about Nelms. I don't think Nelms ever made a fair catch in his entire career. I wish that rule was abolished altogether. No fair catches, I say! So here's my question for you. Mitchell has all these return records and only Payton and Jerry Rice have more total yards in their NFL careers, so is Mitchell a Hall-of-Famer? Is he first ballot? Anyone can jump in and answer this |
