I like this trade. This is a good move for us. Not much risk and we may be able to grab another 5th for Rocky.

No way we trade Rocky for a fifth. That would be almost as stupid as leting Carriker go.

i know it may not be a smart move, but I would not be surprised. A 5th is about the going rate these days for middle of the road talent.

if you consider hoimes a middle of the road talent, we'd be lucky to get a large bag of smarties for rocky

^ wow .... I was kinda considering him an exception. He was moved because of his off the field issues. So his value would have been much higher if he wasn't going to be suspended and didn't have an endless amount off field issues.

So if that's the case and everyone in Pittsburgh these days have smarties for brains, we can get Big Ben for a fifth round pick right?!?!?

Will we gained a player (Carriker) that for atleast 2 weeks prior to the trade the majoirity of the guys here were all about landing him, now we do there is something wrong with him. We just got an extra man and now we can trade some guys in a package deal or not its a good deal. Maybe we aren't used to be on this end of the deal.

Nope. Everyone is still in cerratoshock. I looked it up on webmd. It's a pretty serious nagging syndrome to shake and recover from. People are used to getting Carriker-esque players only when we trade away a 2nd and 3rd this year, and a conditional 6th next year. Getting the good end of the stick on a deal like this one starts the syndrome cycle over again. http://www.thewarpath.net/images/icons/icon7.gif

Well, we got Erasumus James for a seventh rounder.

Re: Redskins Send 5th Rounder to Rams for Carriker and a 5th (Swap 7ths)

I think the thing about Carriker, is he hasn't really played. I wasn't on the bring him in band wagon and I think we did get good value. i am not extremely high on him, but if he brings him something to the D great!

We can cut him in training camp if he isn't playing well and it is no real loss.

Hell if we get anything out of the guy and the 5th pans out we are ahead of the game for once. Not three steps behind.

Tu chez. However, I think we are still in the early recovery stages. It'll probably take a few more of these to be completely in remission.

Pretty good move, but now we are down to 3 picks unless Detroit or Tennessee go for AH and Oakland, Buffalo, Cleveland, take a shot at JC. I don't like what is going on if this theory of going for shedded older linemen is truly their strategy. I can appreciate the " win now" approach, but isn't that the same basic approach Dan and Vinny have been doing all along with these overpaid FAs? I mean we have been doing this getting shedded older linemen/rejects a lot post drating Samuels. I truly hope 2 of our 3 picks are linemen now. WE really could use a small core of younger players to truly build a line around. You can get all the FAs you want in the skilled positions, but I think you truly need to build a line using the draft more than what we have been doing for the past decade.

We didnt lose a pick we swaped 5th's and 7th's. We dropped like 20 spots in the 5th and we jumped three spots in the 7th. We got him for nothing if you think about. In other words we have a front office who are sitting behind a desk and not behind a morning talk show.

But it seemed that the Vikes were about to cut James at the time of the trade. We likely could have gotten him without giving up a pick. Trading for James was one of the dumbest of Vinny moves.

And how did Erasmus James work out for us? Does anyone have a tape of James' numerous Redskins highlights?

Why?

I didn't say the biggest of dumb moves. I meant the move that most screamed pure dumbness. Trading for a player that you can get for free is deeply stupid, more stupid than misjudging talent.

You mean like trading a 3rd for Brunell and extending him when the whole league knew Jax was going to drop him?

Like I said, a door ding.

Trading for Erasmus was a bad move in hindsight but when they did the move it made some sense. At that point, we had no one who was getting to the QB consistently and a 7th for a guy who was drafted in the 1st round as a pass rusher wasn't a completely terrible idea.

If memory serves me right, had Erasmus gotten cut, he would have gone through the waiver wire and other teams would have picked him up. Not that this actually justifies the move, but it explains why they did it. Besides, it's not like 7th rounders work out all the time.

I'm sure I can think of one or two or fifty other moves made by Vinny that were dumber than this one.

A good find. But, still:
"Washington must get better up front, the assistant coaches all said. Golston is listed at 6 foot 4 and 310 pounds, and Kemoeatu (6-5, 350) and Carriker (6-6, 315) also are large men. But they would not be front-line players for the Steelers or Packers.

The Redskins' defensive line simply did not make enough plays"

The transition to the 3-4 will take a while, and it's going to be hard to watch the growing pains. Didn't expect to be the last-ranked defense going into the season.
