Wow... After reading my own post, it's " Madden " all over. I just typed what everyone here already knows.

Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking
First of all, we haven't signed him yet and just because we're bringing him in doesn't mean we're going to sign him.
This is, in my opinion, a harmless move if we do sign him. We have, particularly with no free agency or trades possible right now, limited options in improving our team. Adding some veteran DL help (and considerably younger than PD and Holliday) at what I expect will not be much money is fine by me. Just because we bring in one veteran doesn't mean it's the same old Skins and we're abandoning any and all efforts to get younger
I totally agree that bringing him in is no big deal. We're certainly not going to give him a big contract. He'll be 32 next month and hasn't played much the past few seasons. If he's healthy and his head is right, he could help out in the trenches. If he does sign, I'd imagine it would be a short-term deal with lots of incentive based money. The only way this will be a big deal (in a negative way) is if we overvalue and overpay him, expecting him to be some sort of anchor. |
Give me Rogers over AH, especially since he will cost a fraction of AH. And at least Rogers won't pout about playing the nose.
Can't fill all our needs in the draft alone, like it or not we need to sign free agents. |

I find it funny how no matter who's name is brought up at some point someone will inherently find something to say negatively about the player of interest. Since AH most likely won't be here, but he is hopefully the team can find a way to keep him on the field, it will be nice to have a player willing to play NT until we can either get Bryant playing dominantly or find someone else in the yrs to come. Maybe they can look to fill other needed spots now and maybe AH and Shanahan work out some sort of agreement and our DL is a monster next yr. <- I doubt it happens though, but AH could play a couple plays then Rogers could relieve AH for a couple of plays and visa versa. |
Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking
Rank the NTs right now in this league:
1) Vince Wilfork 2) Casey Hampton 3) BJ Raji 4) Shaun Rogers Anybody else that should go ahead of Rogers? That puts it in perspective, he'd be a gigantic addition for us.
I would put a healthy Rogers ahead of a healthy Casey Hampton, although in the last three years, their injury histories have completely flipped, and now Rogers looks like the guy who can't stay healthy. |

Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking
I don't see what one has to do with the other.
Well, if you sign Shaun Rogers, the only chance you have of stumbling on the nose tackle of the future at any point of the 2011 season is if Rogers gets hurt, and was a wasteful money dump. Sometimes, all you do when you fill a hole is create a hole for the future.
With that said, I'm not naive enough to think that veteran performance that lives up to or exceeds the value of the contract wouldn't help this team. They just need more performers in general. And if one thing went right in Bruce Allen year one, it's that he did very, very well with contracts. |

Your latter point about Allen's contracts leads me to think that Rogers would compete against some young guys in camp, e.g. Bryant. I would think that he would not be a lock to make the team. If he's better than a younger guy, and the young guy shows no particular promise for the future, why not keep the vet for a year or 2? |
Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking
To me it makes no sense to sign older vets on a team that isn't good and needs to get younger. It has nothing to do with the money. He makes sense for a team like Houston or maybe even Dallas. I'd just sign free agents that don't get drafted and see who sticks.

Re: Shaun Rogers and Redskins Talking
I have no problem with bringing in Rogers, although I am dubious about his future contributions.
But we should be bringing in Kenyon Coleman, too. He is a more likely future contributor. |
