Re: Sean Taylor at Free Safety and LaRon Landry at Strong Safety
The one positive light that Rogers has shown is getting his hands on the ball more than a lot of CB's we've had. Unfortunately, his hands are like bricks. If he can soften 'em up a little bit and create the turnover, then we'll have a very good (not great) #1 CB in him.
Based on what?
He hasn't shown very much to date to think that he's going to suddenly become a shutdown corner.
Based on his speed, power, and tackling ability being second to none. He was rarely beaten or thrown at last year. They picked on the other side and safeties. The only element which is a large one is his field and ball awareness at times. With so much uncertainty last year on defense noone had a stellar year. Look for Rogers to be our # 1 this year. JDALY said it first! |

Actually TMC and Daseal said it first. We'll defend Rogers to the death! :D

JDALY said it first!
I guess we're watching a different player. Based on his first 2 seasons in the league his performance leaves a lot to be desired if you ask me. |

I guess you expected a rookie pro bowler in year 1 and last year our defense couldn't stop a college team on third down or in the fourth quarter. |

No but I expected him to be in the same category as Adam Jones as far as production on the field and he is no where close to it. I expected him to be thew physical, powerful, thorpe award winner that he was in college. BUT I have yet to see any of it. He has timed a 4.37 doesn't play like it. Gives up way too much cushion, his recovery speed is way off and he doesn't jam recievers at the line. (Which by the way is his number 1 asset: His strength.) |

Honestly, I think it was just last season that disturbed me. In his rookie season he really was playing at a high level. |

I guess that is true in 2005 he was playing very well. (minus the seattle playoff game) |

No, just looking for a guy who can make plays and catch INTs that hit him in the hands for starters. Second, he hasn't shown that he was worth the 9th overall selection. For that high of a pick, you need a little more than what he's shown so far. Frankly he's been a bit of a disappointment. His ball awareness seems to be very lacking and that's what concerns me the most. How many times have we seen a WR catch a ball on him with his head turned? Far too many times if you ask me. I haven't given up hope, but I just don't see this logic of all of a sudden he's going to take off and become a shutdown corner overnight, based on what we've seen from him so far. |

I do think you are correct as far as how he used, it is up to the coaches to put him up on the line with the reciever, he should be a great bump and run type CB but for what ever reason Williams doesn't use him that way unfortunatly. I do think he has plenty of recovery speed but the problem is when he sits back his instinkts, or his ability to react leaves him to far behind, he should be in the face of every WR that comes to his side, he is very strong for a CB that should be utilized. As far as his hands are concerned he might have the worst hands I ever saw on a DB? Put him up on the line and I think we would see an entirely different CB, a #1type CB. |
