I may have missed this, but with Adams, Williams would have another guy that he could be versitle with. He could blitz off the corners and drop Adams into coverage on a TE or RB. Knowing Williams fondness for athleticism, I wouldn't be suprised if he has devised a cunning plan to see if Adams is truely a savage beast. A freak that will fit his system.

I hope he isn't overthinking it.

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 24 -- Gaines Adams, the speedy defensive end considered perhaps the best prospect at his position at the NFL scouting combine, made his first comments on Saturday something Washington Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs would not forget.
"It would be like a dream come true," Adams said of the possibility of playing in Washington. "Coming home, coming from a small school, playing eight-man football, it's a dream."

In todays POST. Sounds like he made a good impression? A little worried he's undersized, needs to put on some weight.
What he realy loves is the check Danny boy is going to sign...

"I've saved the best for last. The player who most improved his draft position at the WR spot was without question UCLA's Freddie Mitchell. The exciting junior -- who proved to be a super blue-chip, big-play wideout in the Pac-10 -- clearly stole the show in Indy. Mitchell ran in the mid 4.4s, then came through with a top-drawer effort in the positional workout. I've been saying all along that if Mitchell showed true big-league speed at the combine or during an individual workout, he will elevate significantly from the later portion of Round 1. Folks, that's exactly what happened. Mitchell is now a potential mid-first-rounder if the momentum continues leading to April 21."
Did that elevate him to Pro Bowl Substitute teacher?

Looks like if the draft was today, we might just get at least one of the guys we NEED. Come on friday, be suprised if we don't see some new names on the rooster.

Did I miss something, I thought Mitchell was drafted in the middle of the first rd?
San Fran will still get a good defensive player at 11. Silly to give up everything they'd have to give up to get the 6th pick. Unfortunately, we don't have Joe Gibbs to trade down with.
According to the WP, the Redskins were unimpressed with Gaines at the combine and intrigued, but not overwhelmed by Branch/

After being unimpressed with Clemson's Gaines Adams and intrigued but not overwhelmed by Michigan defensive tackle Alan Branch -- though sources said the team liked its non-workout meeting with Arkansas defensive end Jamaal Anderson -- sources at the NFL scouting combine last week said the Redskins were deeply interested in former Virginia defensive end Patrick Kerney, an eight-year veteran who has played his entire career with Atlanta.

That's a great sig Sheriff, ha!

I wonder why they were unimpressed by Adams.

I'm thinking it must be something that came up in an interview or brief conversation. Wasn't there talk of him not being very confident in himself?

People at the Senior Bowl said that he didn't appear confident. I didn't hear anything about how he appeared at the Combine. The only other knock(s) that I can think of are: (1) that he didn't participate in the bench press; (2) his interview didn't go well; and/or (3) they didn't think that he would fit well in our 4-3 alignment. I say that those could be the only knocks because, by all accounts, he performed exceeding well in the 40, the shuttle, and cone drills and generally appeared quick and agile in drills.

A little dated, but I think it's still funny.

Re: Gaines Adams: Dream Come True, being a REDSKIN

Adams is not a good fit for us we need a strong side end who can rush the QB, from what I have heard Anderson makes the most sense, we can't go into the season with 2 DE's who can't hold the line of attack, he may be a better pass rusher than Carter but do we give up on Carter for another undersized end? I can't see Carter being able to play the strong side teams will run right over him, well they already do that but we don't need that on both ends.

I have a strong feeling if we don't trade down it will be Anderson hands down. I just don't feel Branch dominated in college like a player of his size should have, Branch has all the measurables but IMO he doesn't have the body of work to back it up, couple that with the whispers that he's a little lazy? No thanks, I am not taking a chance on the possibility of the second coming of big daddy with the 6th pick!
