he would have gotten 44m over 2 years without a contract (15.5m this year (and the 3m he already got) and 25.8m from a tag next year. so over 2 years its about the same, though now it's guaranteed, and he can get another 4.1m for performance stuff (over the next 2 years).

nothing past 2026 is guaranteed (though 2027 would be an 18m dead cap hit).

They do have an out in 2 years but let's not pretend an $18 million dead cap hit is insignificant. Still I like this deal from the team's perspective, fans crying "just pay the man" are idiots.

My hope is Terry continues to ball out, maxes out the contract in its entirety and becomes the greatest Skins WR of all time. I want Terry here and want us winning and playing in SBs.

signing bonus (30m) is just part of the guarantees. he has a 10m option in 2026 that's also guaranteed (but gets pro-rated against salary cap, not dead cap) and his 2025 and 2026 base salary are guaranteed (the 4.65m). SB is just part of the total guarantees.

and yes 18m cap hit after 2026 would not be insignificant (but saves 16m over keeping him) and after 2027 it'd be 12m hit (release) vs 39m keep). It still provides the team protection. I don't think AP was ever going to sign a contract the team wasn't comfortable with (by guaranteeing big money into year 3, like DK's 20m).
