Because I'm now in the light-hearted phase of getting over a loss (first anger, then sadness, currently light-hearted, in a couple days will be optimistic) I'm enjoying this GIF of our waterboy holding the fort down. Waterboy for game mvp!

Re: Skins/Giants post game thread
Very discouraging way to lose a big game. I have absolutely no confidence in a Redskin defense to make a big stop in a key situation, and today's loss just amplifies that hopelessness. This would have been Shanahan's biggest victory in D.C. in my opinion, but now I believe it is his worst loss here.
The reality is this team has a losing mentality, they've had it since Gibbs-ll left, and Shanahan has done zero to instill a winning attitude here. Yes, he brought Griffin here, and Robert is clearly a winner, but this loss has to sting him pretty good. Cam Newton is already shot in Carolina because of the losing, and his play has been progressively getting worse. Losses like this can have longer term negative effects, and this is another bad loss in yet another season slipping away. The defense is far worse now than it was when Shanahan took over, and can't be relied on at all to make winning plays in crunch time. The offense is working because Griffin has put it on his shoulders, and dominated with his ability and misdirection. Too much is on him to carry this team, and as a result, pressure intensifies. Too much pressure leads to mistakes and takes away the fun of playing. This team cannot win unless a rookie quarterback makes huge plays consistantly. Inexcuseable. This is what happens with those continued expectations. Look no further than Cam Newton and the Panthers. A stud with a promising future getting flushed down the toilet under the weight of enormous pressure. Shanahan has had 3 years now to build a solid foundation and instill a winning attitude. 3 years to build a quality team that believes in itself and spreads the responsibility of winning evenly. The foundation consists exactly of Robert Griffin the 3rd. And now he is being indoctrinated into the league with a losing mentality and unnecessary pressure to outperform. Worse, his mistakes are also amplified. The team is supposed to be carrying the rookie, not the other way around. Losing is contagious, and this team reeks of it. The Shanny mystique is completely gone, and confidence in him has to also. Losing is the expected outcome, and that is unacceptable. This team will not be consistant winners with him in charge in my honest opinion. The die has been cast, the Rubicon has been crossed, the fire is gone. Losing is the Redskin-Shanahan way, and now a bright prospect's future will likely be adversely affected. 4 bad losses already this year, each worse than the one before, and would be more if not for Griffin's stellar play. The Head Coach has no answers, only acceptance. Follow Newton and the Panthers for a look into the near future. Losing is poison, and destroys everything it touches. Some very difficult decisions will need to be made, sooner than later, and it starts at the top. It starts with Mike Shanahan. |

RGIII is .... Awful post |
I love how one week the Skins are great if they win and the next week they're awful if they lose. The Skins lost a game they easily could've won against a team who just beat down a 49ers team regarded as the best in the NFL.
Griffin is no Cam Newton. The kid is a fantastic person who cares about winning and isn't a egotistical child. It's not doom and gloom people. We should be very excited about the future. |
Overlooked is that the NYG's scored 26 points last week against the ferocious San Fran defense. This is not some pansy offense that rolled us.
At the same time, no way Cruz should be behind the entire defense on that play. I am with GTripp ... that fact that we are starting M. Williams is somebody's fault. The personnel choices that ended w/ him starting need to be reevaluated. On the other hand, calls for Haslett's head at this point strike me as foolish and unneeded desparation.
Yeah doo doo Williams is certainly a liability, but if we had addressed the safety position than some other postition would be a liability. Obviously secondary will be the number one focus this offseason. Rome wasnt built in a day. I personally am all for firing Haslett - I mean the guy has basically been a borderline slouch as a DC everywhere he has gone. He went to Pittsburgh and inherited a pretty good defense which got worse year after year with him at the helm until they let him go. Im just not sure why you keep him around. If it is because we are waiting for him to "do his thing" - well his 15 year track record says that is not going to happen. |

Part of me wants him gone at the end of the year, and part of me looks at the talent on defense and wonders why people think we are supposed to be good there even if we had a different DC. Someone already made the point about the Giants against what is considered one of the best defenses putting up points on SF. We gave up 27, SF gave up 23. Im still confused how we can lose Orakpo and Carriker, yet some people still claim that we have one of the most talented defenses in the league and its all on the coaches. (Not saying you made this claim punch it in but ive seen it said multiple times, and have heard it when out and about from other random skins fans) |
We had a poor performing defense when we had Orakpo and Carriker.
|
Re: Skins/Giants post game thread
For the poll, I voted turnovers, but it was a tough decision between the secondary and the turnovers.
But I figure maybe if we hadn't turned the ball over so much, we wouldn't have to depend on the secondary so heavily. But really, you can't go wrong with throwing either option under the bus. |
Re: Skins/Giants post game thread
Four turnovers. Many of them deep in Giants territory. No team can turn it over that often and not have some problems. It does suck that our Offense seems to show up when it is needed most late in games, but the defense can't do the same.

Its Hasletts track record that makes me wonder though. If he had success elswhere Id say "hey I cant wait till this guy gets the players and we see his Defense come into its own. Re: Skins/Giants post game thread
The defense played a good game overall and 3 fumbles lost by the offense is not going to get the job done against most teams, least of all the defending SB champs.
BUT HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU LET VICTOR CRUZ BEHIND YOU? Nicks is playing at 80%, they're down with a lot of ground to cover so they're probably not going to run, they don't have a beast TE -- the only person they are going to is Cruz and he is somehow wide open? All the comments about the Giants team beating the 49ers are kind of stupid -- you can't justify losing like that. Any rationalizations are specious. The offense put up 480 yards and RG3 played like a champ to the point where the opposition is calling him the best QB they've played. This loss rests solely on the entire defense, Haslett included |
Re: Skins/Giants post game thread
I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but this needs to be Moss's last year. Don't get me wrong, he is a true Redskins and has played well this year, but he is part of the old losing mentality that this team needs to shake. How many times has he fumbled or dropped passes in crucial situations through out his career? Enough is enough.. We don't need Griffin to start believing he cant win, and guys like Moss will always choke in big situations.. We need playmakers that believe they will always win.. Just my too cents..
P.S. Someone please fire Jim Hasslet.. |
Loss sucks but I'm already over it, all I have to say is we have RG3 and no one else is playing like he is right now period. The guy just makes play after play, skins will be in every game and we are the future of the nfc just b patient
So you want to go back to trading all of our picks for washed up players and signing lazy players to 100 mil contracts over drafting RG3, Morris, Kerrigan, and other younger players. Shanny deserves a fair amount of lumps, mainly trading for McNabb. But we have some pretty good young players, and we could rarely say that during the Snyderatto era.
Ok, after reading most of the chicken little stories, I might as well add one for Mooby's list. If we are blaming people on the sideline for the Cruz catch, I say we blame RG3 for it. He is supposed to be Superman and clearly he didnt circle the globe fast enough to reverse time and give us another shot at that play. Trade him for a 7th rounder in 2035 and lets move on with the rebuild. Am I doing the hate for my favorite team properly?
Pretty sure criticizing Shanahan and allen does not mean wanting Cerrato and Snyder running things. It just means Shanahan has proven he's as bad here as he was in Denver when he got fired for being a bad football coach. and Allen is just as bad a GM here as he was in Tampa bay. |
The giants did win The SUPER BOWL, not like they aren't one of the elite teams or anything

Dude, we're fans -- our function is to moan and bitch when we lose. If the FO messes up, as they've done, we're supposed to rip them. They are the ones getting paid to make the decisions, why is it on us to suggest something else? |

Shanahan messed up the first two years that he has been here, but we are now in year #1 with a rookie QB. He isn't going anywhere after this season, maybe next year if we have a losing record.
The FO has made some early mistakes too with the trade for McNabb, but overall have made our team a lot younger and we don't over pay for FA's that's a big win in my book. I think if we didn't have the cap penalty we would have addressed more needs this offseason, but couldn't. |

Skins gonna win the division - someone remember to quote this when we win it. We proved today we can play with the Giants - look at the schedules for the birds, gints, and boys for the rest of the year - they are brutal - we got the giants at home still, 5 division games in hand and Carolina and Cleveland - two winnable games for sure. Rite now this division is completely up for grabs. Ive never felt so good so soon after a loss.
We are growing week in and week out - we were soooooo close to making a stake for the division today - fell just inches short. Im going to bed and looking forward to beating up an old slow Pittsburgh D next week. We will be 5-4 going into the bye week. HTTR! |

No excuse for a secondary that gives up a 77 yard touchdown pass play under 2 mins. none. bad coaching but much worse by the M Williams and Josh Wilson and an assist by the D line who got no pressure on that play
